#14 Aleksey Cheremisinov

Aleksey Cheremisinov is a Russian foil fencer and Olympic champion in teams event. After winning gold medal at the 2013 world championship in Kazan, Alexey has experienced a prolonged decline. For several competitions in a row, Alexey could not get past the second round, dropped out of the top 6 ranking for the first time in five years. At the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio, the Russian Federation voted Alexey as a member of the national team to participate. In semifinal against team of USA, Cheremisinov went into the last fight with American leader Alexander Massialas when the Russian team was losing. He left his opponent no chance, defeating Massialas 6-1 and giving the Russian team a chance to fight for a gold medal. In the final it was Alexey's victory in his duel with Jérémy Cadeau at 25-16 in favor of the French team. When Artur Akhmatkhuzin handed Cheremisinov a two points advantage, Alexey not only maintained it, but multiplied it, bringing the Russian team a 45-41 victory. Aleksey has a full cabinet of trophies, however Olympic gold medal particularly shows his dedication and fight mentality. Despite more than a year of bad luck Alexey was able to overcome circumstances and win the most valuable medal of his career.
