  • Not every day do you get to land on a racetrack! Grand Bend has a racetrack that was a former WW2 Royal Canadian Air Force training airfield. Of the original runways, one is a drag strip and not usable for aviation. The other (07/25) is mostly cracked, overgrown and unusable, but one side has fresh pavement since it is the main straight between turns 9 and 10 of the raceway (remnants of the original WW2 runway are visible to the right of the track) . Basically you land on the racetrack. It is still a registered PPR aerodrome (CLP4) so why not! Three of us landed and then biked into the town of Grand Bend for some lunch after checking out the beach. A nice gusty wind kept things interesting on the way in. Leaving you have to be mindful of numerous wind turbines that definitely weren't there back in WW2.

Not a bad runway!! A friend of mine keeps mentioning that I should fly there one day. He is a motorcycle racing instructor. Nice video and thanks for sharing

They were very accommodating letting us land. Runway was pristine smooth. The sketchy part is that the trees near the threshold are in the way so you have to slide left just after them to line up.
