Mr. Slam to me always felt lke the "star" of Small Brawl. He seems to be in a lot of promotional material and overal fits extremely well with the game's theme.
Small brawl gets shit on a lot just because of it's kiddie aesthetics but on a gameplay level it's my third favorite of the series. Happy to see this video!
Outlaw's special is actually godly in this game... But you have to mash the fire button. When you do mash the button, not only is your damage output higher than most other specials, you actually heal a good amount from it. Its absurd how good outlaw is from this special alone
I really like Small Brawl and a lot of the hate it gets seems unjustified to me. Twisted Metal as a series allowed itself to be goofy and dark on occasion, if Black was their take on leaning into the darker aspect of the series, Small Brawl is a good take on the goofier and more casual side of the franchise. The whole aesthetic of the game is pretty charming to me.
The reason I had Outlaws special break contact with the enemy when he got too far away was due to the life steal ability. The player could turbo by the enemy, tag them with the special and drive to the other side of the level and drain their health without risk, making him too strong. So I had the taser break if you got too far away.
Love the character selection in this game, and the maps range from good to amazing. People hate on Small Brawl but it literally takes whats great from Black and 2 and mixes them together. Top 3 TM game IMO
I'm excited for the Head On tier list. I think that's my favorite game in the series. May be because I played that game the most, with it being on a handheld
@2:00 My poor Spectre got thrown down the ditch the way they made him. Every other Spectre felt fast and strong. But this one just felt weak. I love the design of the car.

When I saw the video title I literally sat back in my chair and thought, "Are you serious?!" I mean that in a good way. So happy Twisted Metal has been getting a lot more attention recently! As a die hard fan of TM since I was a little kid, I was always pretty sure that the game seemed dead for years and nobody cared about it anymore. I've been starved for TM Content, so this makes me so happy. Twisted Metal: Small Brawl is (please dont shoot me) my favorite TM game so I'm thrilled it finally gets some attention. ♥️
I know Piecemeal is very lackluster, but he does have a different special than Mime. Mime chooses his special based on who he's closest to. Piecemeal chooses by switching through weapons. You can use any special you want with Piecemeal as long as you flip back and forth from ordinary weapon to special using R1 and L1.
Current rough opinion: Piecemeal - Default access to 3x specials and decent stats. Outlaw - Powerful special. Good range, won't unfreeze opponent and gains health Shadow - Special hits hard or at half damage with detonation. Does the explosion hit others near it? Darkside - Special gets super armour and turbo speed and can hit multiple times but a human player can put up a shield or just freeze him. Unless you want to mixup driving through, going in reverse, or putting up your own shield Thumper - Special can do a lot of damage on someone who jumps during a freeze but they can shield or drive out of the multiple hits. Slam - I've seen the cpu turn on shield while getting hit so it loses its damage from environmentals except during Treetop Rumble. And you'd have to freeze to really catch someone potentially. Hammerhead - Has to use mines to add on more damage which is expensive and won't always hit. Turning on shield mid-way stops the attack if you're fast enough. Sweet Tooth - Your special can harm yourself too. It's decent unless the special falls off an edge. Twister - Special does more damage if you grab someone later than on early activation. Low armour can lower her overall effectiveness. Trapper - High armour but special is really trash in tight spaces. Grimm - Low armour and the special despite hitting harder than a power missile can miss one half. Axel - Special can be outrun or shielded against. Crimson Fury - Mmmmm, I think he could be put elsewhere. Good special with the fire damage but you need all three? Mime - Low armour so special might not be enough to save her in a mirror match. Spectre - Weak super, best homing though. Wart-hopper - Poor thing. Special doesn't track well and even if it hits, damage isn't great.
@@goodrichgames1308 is that art that got leaked of mime not how shes suppost to look? I always envisioned a young mime but the art is like an ugly soccer kid, but I think that fits peicemeal more
TM small brawl truely underated TM game imo. Its physics same sa TM black and only TM series u got to play TM 1&2 together like Mr.Slam and Darkside. PS : Correct me if Im wrong. Outlaws special here is like Crazy8's special but you dont need certain electrode angle to charge up. U can deal massive damge on his special by spamming special button while its connected. Plus, u can steal HP from your enemies too. Anyways great to see TM content creators today. Subbed!
I have to defend Outlaw here because the car is better than you think, his stats are a little better, armor would be like 40% and speed and acceleration would be like 50% each, yeah not a great improvement but they are not that bad and its special it's good, when you press the fire button repeatedly you gain health so I have to give Outlaw some credit and put it at least in B tier
I didn't know about the health drain ability within his special! I for sure would bump him up to B Tier then knowing about that extra health drain within his special.
My favorite part about the specials in this game are the fact that some have really fun gimmicks. Outlaw is Crazy 8 in this game with healing, Crimson Fury, Spectre and Shadow's specials go faster when you turbo, using mines on top of Hammerhead's special, using slopes and tight spaces for Sweet Tooth's special to hit a lot more and my favorite would be Thumper's where you freeze an opponent and then use the special on them mid air and it will just drag them through the duration of special or if they break free or die with one sound wave.
Great observations, I tried to make the specials have some synergy or strategic use. Unfortunately due to time may of the specials did get completed the way I had envisioned.
@@goodrichgames1308 Whooooa thats awesome, I never knew you worked on Twisted Metal Small Brawl! I played this so much as a kid back then, this was my favorite TM. I always love hearing from developers on these things. Small Brawl honestly had to be my favorite of the bunch right next to TM2. Besides the whole Outlaw thing, I would not put Thumper in the same tier as those heavy hitters because the special takes too long for me. I would also swap Mime and Warthog. Warthog from TM2 was just a safe average at best car. Here they left the special but added risk and it was a fun playthrough for me. I think Small Brawl is the best TM on PS1.
@@VicariousNickk Yep, if I had to guess, they modeled the vehicle to be grasshopper, but her special weapon was a bit too hard to program or implement in this game, so they just renamed her and gave her another missile special.

Small Brawl is my absolute favorite game of the series and all time. I love it. My favotites are Shadow, Darkside, Piecemeal, and Trapper. On a side note, Mime is confirmed as a female character lol. Playing as the boss characters are more fun when you play as their boss versions rather than their unlockable versions through GameShark codes. Another reason why I love this game is because it's RC cars, and RC cars are fun.
My thoughts about the vehicles in TM Small Brawl . Sweet Tooth: Pretty decent to play as and its special weapon is kinda cool, i found its head to be quite unique because it kinda serves as RC signal. It has good armor and ok ,but a bit slow, handling. (7/10) . Shadow: Pretty cool to play as this vehicle since it has a unique design though its purple lines are unnecessary. Shadow has good handling and speed, and its special weapon it's pretty good although its pretty that its special its a grim reaper hologram detonator since it serves better as Mr.Grimm's special, but other i enjoy playing Shadow in this game as its pretty good and feels balanced. (7.5/10) . Warthog: Feels and plays like Pit Viper, although its still a bit better than the latter since its handling its not as bad. I do admit its special feels a bit off since it looks weaker than its previous counterparts. Even though its design as a Dune Buggy its cool i feel like this is Pit Viper, if its special and handling were a bit better. Saying this makes feel i have the same issues with Warthog from TM Black LOL. (6/10) . Twister: By far the best version of all Twisters. Its special is,by far,the most improved one of them all too since it doesnt hurt you when you tried to use it although i whish they would have given some sort of animation to it. Its also its pretty dynamic and amazing too. Its armor its still weak but despite that this is better than its TM2 counterpart. (8.5/10) . Spectre: They kinda nerfed a bit this version, its special its a bit weaker but still cool to see as a three ghost missiles, its handling and speed are still good and its design, while it may not be as good or as dynamic as its TM1 counterpart its still better than its TM Black self and at least they choose the right color to give it the symbolic feel of being Spectre. Its pretty fun to play as Spectre not gonna lie (7.5/10) . Crimson Fury: Better than its TM1 counterpart in terms of Special weapon and handling but its design looks a bit bulky at least at its design back. Its special its an improvement over its TM 1 special since the fire airplanes has homing capabilites. Pretty good version even though its design looks a bit dull. (7.5/10) . Mr.Grimm: I like this version as much as its TM1 and TM2 counterpart, its feels more easier to play as and its handling its pretty good. Its special may be powerful but its design as pumpkings feels weird. Despite this, this version looks great. (8.5/10) .Mr.Slam: Like Twister, they improved Slam in this one. Its special its more easier to use and the shockwave its pretty neat, its still slow and sluggish but this version is 10 times better than its TM2 counterpart. (7.5/10) . Thumper: Looks like its TM3 counterpart except not as strong as it is. While it may have good speed, handling and armor, its special doesnt feel as strong as its TM3 special though it has a cool sound effect that it plays when you fire the special. Its design isn't also as dynamic as its TM3 self, whish they would have use the TM1 self. (7.5/10) . Outlaw: Nothing too much to say about this version except that its special isnt as good as its TM2 special. Its design looks ok but not as awesome as its Twisted Metal 2 version, i heard that if you keep pressing the fire button while using your special it will replenished your health but i never saw it happen, maybe i am doing it wrong. (7/10) . Hammerhead: Its special its pretty effective and has a badass rock n roll sound effect, while this version may look like a truck jeep it has decent handling and speed and its armor its pretty good. 🤘😝🤘 for the win LOL. (8/10) . Axel: I didnt like this version of Axel because its design looks a bit shallow and its special its a bit awkard to use. Its handling looks a bit stiff and feels awkward to play. My least favorite vehicle in the game and version of Axel in the series. (5.5/10) . Mime: While i may not like this vehicle at first because for some reason its look a bit like Microblast in terms of weak armor. This vehicle its unique in its own right and its decent to play as because its speed, handling and sneaky type clever weapon. Its basically serves as a imposter competitor in which i found it amusing. Not a bad car to use but its armor could have been better and the design could have been a bit dynamic, at least its special its better than Microblast. (7.5/10) . Trapper: Basically the kids version of Minion, i havent yet use this car but it looks like very good car to play, its special looks pretty strong like a powerful version of Sweet Tooths, i do find its design pretty unique and soemthing that could work for another TM game though its slow speed and handling makes like you play both Minion and Warthog at the same time. Despite this it looks like a very good car to use. (8.5/10) . Piecemeal: Looks ok but its my second least favorite. Mainly because its basically a bad version of Roadkill and Dark Tooth. Its design looks neat, not gonna lie, but its handling is not that good, its special is the same one as Mime's. There really isnt anything to say about this vehicle, looks unique in concept but it should been called Roadkill( due to its parts being collected and pull together) or Dark Tooth( due to its size). (6.5/10) . Darkside: Without a doubt the best vehicle in the game and one of my most favorite vehicles, its speed and handling are surprisingly decent and its special its quite strong and badass since it activates spikes for double damage, the thing i didnt like about this version is that its color its blue ( i know its not that of a big deal but the vehicle its called Darkside) and that its design, look badass though, its pretty bulky like its TM Black self and it doesnt have pipes from both sides that releases smoke when activates the horn ( but sonce it's a RC car its completely understandable). One of the best vehicles in the game and the one thats pretty much worthy of being the final boss of the game. Did you know that theres a concept art of the driver of this vehicle and its appearance is that of a kid with a devil mask? This give a hint that Mr. Ash from TM1 is basically Satan. (9/10)
Minion and grasshopper got cut off the game dev, Small brawl was actually planned for the ps2, but Sony downgraded It for the ps1, so, they got a Time reduction for the release, Minion was deleted and warthog was something else, they had the grasshopper car, but not the Krista ending and for warthog they got the animated ending but not the Jeep 3d model, so, they just changed grasshopper textures to be warthog, and mine's special was planned to be a hand that shots in a straight line, when hitting oponents the hands traps the enemy on a transparent box that get's smaller and smaller, causing crush damage, mine can also fire misiles through the box, but sadly David Goodrich (Small brawl developer) couldn't get the time to make those changes
My personal tier list S: Darkside, Outlaw, Piecemeal A-B: Everyone else D: Hammerhead? F: Axel and Trapper I can explain Trapper and axel easily, trapper's special just doesn't do any damage and it almost seems like it's broken plus the fact it's way worse than the boss version of trapper and just in general he feels badly outclassed by the other heavyweights, and Axel suffers from Brimstone syndrome where as soon as the first missile is launched you can't use any other weapon on top of the fact you need to be in an open space otherwise some missiles will just slam into walls and even if you hit all the missiles it seems like it does barely any damage.
Not sure if you ever read my comment but Specter car actually is based toward Mach-5 from Speed Racer heck if you see the desigh of these two you could notice the similance
Fun fact, the reason Warthog is different than usual is because he originally was going to be Grasshopper. But they decided to change him to Warthog. I don't remember the reason but thats why his stats are weird for a Warthog character
whatever life has in store for me, I will miss the part where that's my problem. This is my gift, my curse, my problem. Who am I? I missed the part where that's my problem.
Dude Outlaw is literally the BEST because of his special alone. If you tap the special button while active, it drains there health and does superior damage to everyone else. They sit still alot, shield or freeze is good. P.S, his special doesn't break freeze faster. Its guaranteed huge damage and heals
I may be misremembering but iirc there actually IS a difference between Mime's and Piecemeal's specials. Tmk Mime will generally copy whoever is closest at the time while Piecemeal will copy from anyone that is currently in the match. Though for some reason from what I can tell Piecemeal can't copy Sweet Tooth's special.
Fun fact, Minion was supposed to be the final boss, but due to demonic references and they had to swap to the ps1, he got cut. He was supposed to be a kid in a devil costume, but no vehicle was designed. Also darkside was gonna get an ending too, but that wasn't made
It truly is! I wanted to be more critical with this one by honestly I love so many of the characters in this game that I just couldn't bring any of the S tier down to A haha
I never understood how axels armor could be good, he’s the only character who is completely exposed, even if you hit the tires wouldn’t they pop? I know it’s a game but at least a little realism would make sense

. Axel: I didnt like this version of Axel because its design looks a bit shallow and its special its a bit awkard to use. Its handling looks a bit stiff and feels awkward to play. My least favorite vehicle in the game and version of Axel in the series.
(5.5/10)
(7.5/10)
(8.5/10)
(6.5/10)
(9/10)
Small brawl twister can be seen as the best iteration of Twister due to how it had the best iteration of its special
Also Twister special is the best one on maps like the tree house, you can send others to die from falling
In that case is better slamm one
Will you do videos on Rogue Trip?
My personal tier list
S: Darkside, Outlaw, Piecemeal
A-B: Everyone else
D: Hammerhead?
F: Axel and Trapper
I can explain Trapper and axel easily, trapper's special just doesn't do any damage and it almost seems like it's broken plus the fact it's way worse than the boss version of trapper and just in general he feels badly outclassed by the other heavyweights, and Axel suffers from Brimstone syndrome where as soon as the first missile is launched you can't use any other weapon on top of the fact you need to be in an open space otherwise some missiles will just slam into walls and even if you hit all the missiles it seems like it does barely any damage.
Not sure if you ever read my comment but Specter car actually is based toward Mach-5 from Speed Racer heck if you see the desigh of these two you could notice the similance
Are we gonna get a tier list for TM:head on ?
Yes!
you can destroy the seats in the final level if you drive against them for a while (for 10 seconds or so)
I know they can take a real beating from weapons before breaking. Will have to try driving up against them as you say. Interesting.
Fun fact, the reason Warthog is different than usual is because he originally was going to be Grasshopper. But they decided to change him to Warthog. I don't remember the reason but thats why his stats are weird for a Warthog character
Spectre car looks like Mach5 from Speed Racer
whatever life has in store for me, I will miss the part where that's my problem. This is my gift, my curse, my problem. Who am I? I missed the part where that's my problem.
I like how you refer to all the cars in Every game as theys, but Mime you kept calling he, even though the driver is a girl 😂😂
Dude Outlaw is literally the BEST because of his special alone. If you tap the special button while active, it drains there health and does superior damage to everyone else. They sit still alot, shield or freeze is good. P.S, his special doesn't break freeze faster. Its guaranteed huge damage and heals
Easy S tier. Speedruns r even done with him
Love your vids good stuff ps mime is not mr.mime the pokemon or a mr its a girl btw :)
How did you get such high quality small brawl game play?
man just imagine if small brawl had minion I might buy small brawl someday so I can add it to my ps1 collection
Minion got cut and I replaced him with Piecemeal if I remember correctly.
@@goodrichgames1308 they should of added him tbh
@@MercilessJoey Sony didn’t want him in the game and the demon theming for a kids game was an issue so I has to cut him.
How is the graphics so good ??
when are they making new twisted metal games? why did they stop.
Fun fact, Minion was supposed to be the final boss, but due to demonic references and they had to swap to the ps1, he got cut. He was supposed to be a kid in a devil costume, but no vehicle was designed. Also darkside was gonna get an ending too, but that wasn't made
actually one of the devs said minion was cut out due to a lack of time, the game was really rushed but surprisingly it came out as well as it did
@@coffee0093 oh okay. Still an underrated gem with how good it is
Honestly I think if they got rid of the silly rc car antenna that flops around the center of the screen small brawl would be a lot easier to enjoy.
Top heavy tier list
It truly is! I wanted to be more critical with this one by honestly I love so many of the characters in this game that I just couldn't bring any of the S tier down to A haha
I never understood how axels armor could be good, he’s the only character who is completely exposed, even if you hit the tires wouldn’t they pop? I know it’s a game but at least a little realism would make sense
To me, crimson fury is a little bit stronger than spectre, it's not the weakest but it is a medium character
Mime is a girl btw😊
Hey idk if you know, but there are active cheat codes in this game. I never knew this game had cheat codes...learn something new everyday.
Hell yeah heh thanks for this dude :)
How many specials in this game are just 3 missiles?
A lot due to reusing code for specials when we were running out of time.
Were you one of the developers?
Obviously Piecemeal is Dark Tooth and it's more obvious than Trapper is Minion
Interesting tier but I think Mime is implied to be a girl
You are correct!
Psst, Mime is a female
My apologies!
