J. Cole has tapped into the world of “type beats” for his latest (and most unorthodox) release: a surprise song called “Procrastination (Broke)” - check it out below.
Rather than being rolled out on Cole’s official channels on Spotify and Apple Music, the track was uploaded to RUclips late Wednesday (January 18) by a largely unknown producer from Brooklyn, New York named Bvtman.

For people asking about the producer getting paid, from what I understand, a lease for a beat or outright buying the beat is needed when the artist using the beat intends to use the beat for profit such as putting it on Spotify. By having the song release on the producer's youtube page J. Cole will get no money out of it. Because of that, under normal circumstances, bvtman would have actually had to pay J. Cole to use his verse in the same way DJ Khalid or Kygo pay artists to appear on their songs. It all comes down to who is making the request from the other person. Since the producer is getting ad revenue off the video he would have being the one to pay, but Cole did it for free which is why it's such a big deal. For perspective Lil Baby charges 300K for a verse.

Yeah I’m sure that verse was worth at least ~200k in ad revenue but more importantly the exposure is PRICELESS. Who the new fans of bvtman and his beats, all the future opportunities that may come. Truly can’t put a number on how big this could be for him.
