RIP Dan McCafferty. Unique voice. One of Scotlands finest singers & bands.
I can't tell you how many tears I've cried into a beer, after a bad break-up, listening to this song back in the 80s ... but it was lots.
I worked security on a concert tour of Western Canada with Nazareth in 1987. These gentlemen are some of the coolest, most intelligent and fun people I have ever met. And yes, they can ROCK!!!
Have always LOVED THIS SONG‼‼‼‼‼
RIP Dan McCafferty (lead singer) and Manny Charlton (lead guitarist) who both passed away recently (Dan in November and Manny in July). Nazareth formed in 1968 and have been performing and recording since then. Dan's singing was inspired by primarily Little Richard. He went on to create his own screaming, raspy sound that inspired numerous 70s and 80s bands, including giants like AC/DC and Guns N Roses. Listen to Dan shred on uptempo rockers like This Flight Tonight, Bad Bad Boy, Telegram, and don't miss the timeless rock ballad Dream On. Long live Rock N Roll!!!!
He put so much emotion into this song that you can feel his hurt. I'm going to guess that if taken a vote, this would be the #1 break-up song ever.
Nazareth.............criminally under rated
Early 80s I was at a club in downtown Vancouver BC on a Tuesday night. There was some girl band playing and they weren't very good. I was about to call it a night and a guy gets up on stage and starts singing. Everyone was mesmerized on the dance floor. Turns out it was Dan McCafferty, lead singer of Nazareth.
This was their song that got me into their catalog back in the '70s via the old Columbia House record club. How many of you guys remember that old mail-order album company?
My first bout with bad credit 😂
I do! Got me into metal,80’s era
@@israelthmpsn Introduced me to W.A.S.P.
I sure remember Columbia House I got ordered twice from them two times and guess what I never paid I got this like the 12 or whatever you know for a penny or something and then I'm supposed to buy the more I never bought the more and I did it twice hell I was just thirteen what the fuk was like
I think I still owe them money...
My song from the 70's I have goosebumps on goosebumps lol play cd on high while driving its the best
It’s nice to see you appreciate all forms of music I respect that a lot many thanks to you
Probably one of my favorite songs of all time. Love, love, love it.
Thank you for the blessing wishes.
Been hoping you would do this. My favorite version of this song.
One of the best songs .......Thanks for sharing
Dream On -- Nazareth -- You will love this tune -- his voice is amazing
One of my favorites. Nazareth the best
Dan's voice is SO good in this song. I love it. Another of Nazareth's songs that i really like is " This Flight Tonight"
it was a cover of a joni mitchell song.. I didn't know that for many years, but after hearing it I can't believe they made a completely different sounding song. I Love Nazareth's one, but not a fan of the original.
True story. Naz were huge Joni Mitchell fans and met her when she was touring in the UK. They played her their cover of This Flight Tonight and asked her opinion of it. The following week she played a huge gig in London. She walked onto the stage and told the audience, "I'd like to open tonight with a Nazareth song."
Hearts Grown Cold. Live Snaz
This was my first album, yes I bought it with money and a broken heart.
An old favorite of mine. This is one of those songs that when it comes on the car radio as you're about to pull in the driveway, you take a few trips around the block so you can hear the whole thing.
And all these years, I had no idea it was a cover!
Love Nazareths music. Got to see them in concert in 83. So many great songs. Dan has a unique raspy voice. Please do more. This Flight Tonight, Expect No Mercy, Kentucky Fried Blues. I could go on and on.
I first heard this done by the Everly Brothers when I was a little kid and I liked it, but Nazareth changed it to a completely different song and I think they own it!!
I woke up to 8 inches of snow! So I did my chores and then sat to listen to some Dr. Hook, a couple of videos in I saw you reacting to Dr Hook videos. I immediately picked your videos. I love watching you hear this music for the first time. When this video popped up on the side and I saw you scratching your head I knew exactly what part of the song it was, so I clicked to watch and was not disappointed.
Lots of tears shed when this song come out!!! SIMPLY AWESOME....
Dan McCafferty is on leads. He's from Dunfermline, Scotland.
Loved this song from my childhood but now when I hear it all I can think of is that episode of King of the Hill with Bobby thanks King if the Hill😄😄
Best rock ballad ever! Thanks😁
The guitar chords and his vocal produces so much power that the Everly Brothers do not convey.
Best version i think of LOVE HURTS. My favorite song as a little kid..guitar solo is my favorite
Yeah, that guitar solo is ideal. No need to take away or add a single note.
I totally agree with you Wendy! The contrast of Dan's raspy voice with the heartfelt lyrics is just - well...perfect!
yeah, I have been through some very difficult times after a break up of someone I fell for and they tore my heart out.
the lead is so simple yet, rips you to pieces. and yeah I have cried many tears when I would hear that lead.
I so agree Wendy! The guitar solo has such a melancholy sound that fits the song perfectly. Absolutely Love it!
The biggest lie ever told. Love never hurts. Fear and pride are what hurt. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
I was only 7 years old when this song got my attention. This song simply reflects a emotional difficulty in a broken relationship. This how some can see and feel about it. Dan McCaffery (Lead singer) has a new song :Tell me. And this song he convey a new understanding about love
where are you from?
Your reaction channel is by far the best. You allow the song to play, uninterrupted, and then comment on it. Most of the other channels are so frustrating as they will interrupt right when the song is hitting a peak, just to make some comment that they could have made after the video. Thanks for doing it correctly!
Thank you
Modern Renaissance Man My pleasure. God bless.
Another song, I wore out doing homework back in the day.
Good day MRM! I'm a child of God that was blessed to be born in the 60's! I absolutely love this song! I'm so glad that you react to a wide range of MUSIC 🎶! Especially the OLDIES! May the Lord continue to bless you and your family!!
The Nazareth one has more pain in it.
You mean Ted Neeley ( sp) version...
That is Nazareth lol.
Um this IS Narareth
@@kellyannemitchell6013 #swoosh
THIS FLIGHT TONIGHT is another awsome song from them.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The good old seventies! And his voice is bloody amazing 😉
I’m SO GLAD you reacted to this version 💜😎
The couple who wrote this song, Felice and Bondleaux Bryant, also wrote "Rocky Top" the University of Tennessee fight song, "Bye Bye Love" and "All I have to do is dream" by the Everly Brothers and "You're the Reason God made Oklahoma" by David Frizzell and Shelly West.
The Nazareth version of this great tune is incredible.
seen these guys about five years ago Dan McCafferty voice was spot on !!
Got to see them twice in the 70s great concerts, really enjoy your channel
One of the best vocal performances of all time!
I remember listening to this in the 80s, but never knew who sang it. This guy's unique voice rocks.
I heard it in 1975 ,,
Excelente reaccion, Love hurts , Yes sir, hasta la guitarra lloro.
Назарет на все времена!!!
One of my ALL time favorite bands!! The singer Dan McCafferty...one of the best voices in Rock....just released a new album..he is now well into his 70's and can still belt out a heavy rocker or sing a beautiful ballad! I hope that you look into some more Nazareth..they have a wide range of songs...A good classic rocker in "MORNING DEW"
he died yo'
@@manomyth11 Yes, I remember hearing about it the day he passed. It was a sad day for sure. My original post was from 3 years ago and I did not suspect that he would be taken so soon.
Everly Brothers and also Roy Orbison sang this one also. Gary Morris did a beautiful rendition on this one (country singer but sings opera et cetera).
The lead singer had that tie around his throat to keep his vocal chords from flying out of his throat!
Now you need to listen to their songs Shot me down and Dream on.Nazareth is one of my absolute favorite groups.
Superb rock voice
Actually a cover song from an early 60s Everly Brothers song. Loudest concert I've been to
This is my all time favorite song!!!!! I only recently found out that it's a cover!!! Yes, it was originally done by the Every Brothers!!
This version is my favorite. Nazareth is my favorite band.
My first slow dance, 1974. God I'm old.
Yet another great Scottish band.. Peace man
This is a great version of this song from Scottish rock band Nazareth they also did a song called called Sunshine which is well worth a listen :)
Written by Georgia native, Boudleaux Bryant. He also wrote the Everly Brothers hit, "All I Have To Dream". He and his wife Felice also wrote "Bye Bye Love" and "Wake Up Little Susie"
Nazareth has SO many more songs, please dig into their albums! Thank you.
They used to have one song Three different gropes at the same time. This song had a few different reincarnations over the years. There are other versions out there `Nazareth, 1976 Everly Brothers 1960 Roy Orbison, Emmylou Harris & Gram Parsons, Jennifer Warnes, Cher, Rod Stewart, The Osborne Brothers all recorded it. If you Ask me Nazareth owns it.
Holy-snapping-duckspit YES!! One of my absolute favourites, also my fave version of this song (they really made it their own, not just a copy). Love Dan's voice. Nazareth had so so SO many great songs, along with this one my very faves are I Want to do Everything for You, Bad Bad Boy & Holy Roller.
I didn't know that this was a remake. It has always been one of my most favorite songs.
Well we all have something to believe in. I believe in good music!
4.5 thousand views in under 24 hrs say no more guys 1 hell of a band.
This song was playing on the radio when I got my first kiss.
Good Good Good song. Love it.
Alex Harvey was another great Scottish singer, his band SAHB did a great version of 'Delilah'.
Alex's version of Delilah blows Tom Jones' out the water.
Saw them in 77 with Black Sabbath and Mahogany Rush. Great show.
Lay it on the line should go in the lottery. Triumph is another similar band
You did another version of this same song by the original artist The Everly Brothers....I really love the melancholic way Nazareth does it. I feel this version. I listened as a preteen.
It means more to me now that I'm an "old maid" (or happily still single). I guess it about love lost in the past... but as long as I'm alive and kicking i still have hope.
If and when my Mr Right does come knocking zzz I have a whole lot of bottled up love I've been saving. I pray that I have discernment to know if he is the real deal.
one of my favorites voices of all time.
Lol Ty: "iits always a unique thing to me when guys sing in that high range"... Proceeds to sing in a high range! :-) I love this version Nazareth sings, grew up on this music! Love your reaction! Blessings & love!!
His voice!! Monster hit!!
Great song, great voice!!! The best version ever!!!
I LOVE HIS VOICE THE SONG REMINDS ME WHEN I WAS A TEEN!! GREAT JOB
This was a heartbreak song for many of us girls in the 70s
This song introduced me to the pain of love without me even having my 1st heartbreak yet. It's just always made me sad.
Love that song! 👏🏼❤️
Oh how I love this for so many reasons! My Dad once overheard me listening to it and said, ”oh that’s a beautiful song!” ❤️ Sending love Ty- 💛✌️🤘🏼💛
The ultimate break up song. I don't anyone my age has escaoed from heartache without over-playing this! Love it 💓
P.S. If you've evervseen that 70's show, tgey play this in an episode when everyone had broken up with eachother. It's a hilarious episode! But anyway, you might've heard it then.
Awesome sauce 👍. This came out when I was 6.....sad part is for decades I didn't understand words (he wasn't so clear with his words ) but doggone I sang it anyways 😁. Never heard any other versions 🤔
Golden country by Reo Speedwagon have 2 great live videos. 1 from 1972 and one done in 2010 I believe. I think you'll like them both. The song is a protest against war and injustice towards blacks and mamed veterans. Still holds meaning till this day.
Golden Country- Reo Speedwagon.
He puts feeling into the song 👍 love this song and his voice 💚hair tug Ty 😀 AWESOME 👍
I imagine others have let you know this, but a quick scan of the comments didn't show any, but - both Nazareth and well before them The Everly Brothers were doing a Roy Orbison song when they recorded 'Love Hurts', and while they're both fine covers, Roy Orbison simply had one of the most stunning voices in all of Rock history and was massively admired by musicians well after his prime. There are several of his old (early/mid 60s) radio hits that are stand-out classics, including 'Crying', 'Only The Lonely', 'Oh, Pretty Woman'.
funny watching these videos with you. cant believe we all looked like that back then, but the music was great!
Nazareth Best !!!
Awww such a good song.
Love this! And blue is your color!
I just noticed he scratches his head when he's feeling the song. Before I'm thinking maybe his scalp is dry? Lol
Check out Nazareth's version of This Flight Tonight by Joni Mitchell...their other hit. They really had a gift for interpreting cover songs in their own way, while honoring the original vibe
Another great song by them is, Broken down Angel...
My favorite version. Everly Brothers did it as well. The vocals here are so full of angst and that guitar solo is the perfect complement.
Now this brings back memories of going cruising with my boyfriend as well as slow skating with him to this. Great song, great melody, puts you in a mellow mood. Great pick💕
The staple slow dance song for every junior high school dance in the 70s n early 80s
💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜🎶💜
Standing completely still one hand on his hip and belting out this fantastic music. Awesome.
Back in the day 😎😎😎 good times no worries!
This is part of the soundtrack of my middle school years. Oh the first time your heart gets broken by your first crush....Nazareth were the only ones who understood you.
I've been with you for a year. I like them both
Roy Orbison covered "Love Hurts" in 1961 and issued it as the B-side to "Running Scared." While "Running Scared" was an international hit, the B-side only picked up significant airplay in Australia. Consequently, chart figures for Australia show "Running Scared"/"Love Hurts" as a double A-Side, both sides peaking at No. 5. This makes Orbison's recording of "Love Hurts" the first version to be a hit.
Boudleaux and Felice Bryant wrote this and they wrote many Everly brothers hits. Roy Orbison,Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris,Nazareth, Joan Jeff and heart have all done kickass versions of this.
