Rolex and the department of the Science of materials of the EPFL have been working for decades on innovation. No surprise they could achieve such quiet mastering of stability. The paradox is, of course, that organic materials are less used. So instability which we call patina is getting rarer and more sought after.
This is a cool video. You could also take most of these 'arguments'/points and apply them to independent watches over 'mass produced' high end watches like modern Rolexs
Fantastic video again Jasper! I totally agree with your statement 'If you don't appreciate Rolex, you don't know anything about watches'. I believe that there are 2 major brands you simply cannot dislike if you like watches (at least in my opinion). Rolex, and Seiko.🙌🏻🔥
I must be in the minority who love vintage Rolexes much more than new , however when it comes to vintage against vintage from other major brands then it's very difficult to put Rolex as number 1 by any measure.
Im sorry but can you please elaborate. Vintage Rolex are generally superior by almost every measurement VS other brands from the same era. Especially back in the days Rolex was way ahead.
@jasperkov I don't know how to put it but vintage Rolex as good as they were for me never found them interesting enough same like a Porsche 911 while nice enough yet still very expected , a vintage Patek , Vacheron even IWC , Cartier , Audemars , Omega can look more exciting or as exciting to me at least, vintage Rolex sports as a tool watch was very ordinary compared to other brands at the time and modern ones aren't the best in terms of luxury and horological significance so for me they can't be considered as number one but more of a well marketed brand that happens to appeal to a bigger audience especially from a price to quality to perception ratio.
@@mahmoudghoneim8004 hi, thanks for clarifying. You do understand that they made way more models besides their toolwatches right? They have a pretty impressive portfolio of elegant dresswatches and even couple complicated ones like the split-second, triple calendar chronograph and calendar with moonphase etc. They carried an extremely diverse range of models back in the days.
Major trolling with the sip from the coconut 😂. Love your channel. I also happen to agree with you. I love vintage Rolex. I find the modern examples, while certainly well made, to be wholly uninteresting.
I like many Yachtmasters (obviously not the hideous YM2), but the 116622 and precious metal variants + titanium, most Daytona’s (especially the elaborate gemset ones & the Oysterflex). I very much dislike the maxi cases and not a big fan of the cerachrome bezel

There seems to be a dichotomy in your statement, vintage watches tend to be more delicate, more difficult to service due to unavailability of parts, more riskier of inappropriate alterations, inability to use daily etc..., it's hard to think of them as everyday watches. Modern day Rolex pieces are more accurate, tougher, more reliable etc... difficult choice, that is why I have both...

I wish Rolex would bring back stone dial day dates with no numerals. A modern take on the bloodstone dial in white gold would be awesome.
i agree
Super cool location.. I am a plane geek as much a watch geek! Agreed on Rolex and yes, vintage is the only way to go!
Jasper, you are not only the King of Vintage, but also of watch content.
Vintage is king ! Just bought a 66 Bart Simpson with a dial that looks like it went into a fire ! Love it.
The rare kind of watch video - the intellectual kind. This was a great essay and love letter to vintage rolex. Well done Jasper.

Go on, dip that rolex in the jacuzy 🤣🤣🤣
Haha hope to see you soon buddy!

Exactly. I have a vintage watch and I worry about washing my hands. I just don't wear it anymore.

Agree and great subjective vid. Always high quality Jasper!
Jasper you’re the man! Love the style of your videos !
That Daytona is beautiful, but servicing vintage is too difficult and expensive.
Thanks. But as said in the video, servicing vintage Rolex isn’t difficult nor expensive.
Any RSC will service your vintage or neo-vintage Rolex.

its the same with everything, furniture, guns, cars. There was so much more variety and craftsmanship back then

I laugh when I see Rolex haters because I know they’ll soon come back around to appreciating it. The Rolex curve is a real thing.
Great production quality on the video, loved it!
I’ll buy.
