In my local subway, they routinely blast the horn as they arrive for the same reason, whether you're on the line or not. There is also an announcement about a minute before the train, saying that the train is approaching.
Hey guys! Thank you so much for making this video. I'm from Hungary but I lived in the D.C. area in 2011 and took all the metros there a lot!!!!!!! Yellow line was my favorite. This morning my 2 year old son just asked me about it and I found your video. I watched it with teary eyes. You brought back so many memories. Thanks. :) Have a great day!
I ride the Metro every day. I learned back in the 1990s that you should not stand on the marble part with the blinking lights. That will prompt a horn blast from the operator almost every time. This was way before the raised dome warning strip was being installed (other railroads call this the "yellow line," as in, "Train Approaching. Please remain behind yellow line.") Even today this warning strip is still not installed at every station, as I see in your video, but they're getting there.
Kris Rehberg you're right sorry. it's installed in every underground station because its darker and its somewhat difficult to tell where the marble ends...
They are trying to install it at all the stations. They're not perfect, but they will eventually standardize things like this including the maybe red and maybe white flashing "train approaching" lamps. A lack of dedicated annual funding makes things like this difficult.
Jeff, you do a really good job! I like that you are also good friends with DieselDucy, and that you always have fun making videos! I just subscribed to you if I haven't already. :D
Hey I'm in Paris right now! Today we went to the Musee de lArmee... Which was pretty cool. They had some Kone roped hydros, which I've never seen before. No video though.
I got honked at by a dam Van which is 20 while I was waiting for Bus 65 to school because that kid didn’t came out of the house and I to close to the street
Sam Sitar Especially the Kawasaki 7000 series has the smell inside of the train, and that's exactly we went to Washington DC 1 year ago with my sister, and her friend for my birthday weekend. We ride the 7000 series trains, and I was surprised to see it.
+Brendan Carey who else here I confused and somewhat offended when he said stale urine smell like I get the burning brakes smell but if they know anything about subway stations it to me they smell like clean fast flowing air I know this because if been to that exact station I've been on Washington metro twice in my life and also rode Baltimore metro subway countless times wich also smell like burning brakes at the escalator part but when you get in the actual underground station it smells like clean blowing air so I just wanted to know who else was offended when they said it smells like urine?
I LOVE THE DC METRO SMELL
Jason Dick me too
I also love the one on Amtrak
Smells like the good type of gasoline

Did you ride on the 7000 series train cars the ones that have the digital displays
I rode Metro and its fun!
Well, you were right on the line. They were probably doing it for your safety, telling you to back up a bit.
I know, I was probably too close and making the driver nervous

Marta drivers in Atlanta always honk when coming into the station. Metro doesn’t do this so much. It’s happen a few times.

metro smell is very heavy sometimes.
I actually love it, but, to each his own, I guess.

You should smell the Glasgow subway in Scotland UK.
I actually love the smell of the Metro, it brings back memories of my childhood when I’d hop the Metro to and from school!

I guess it's because you were standing the platform edge which wasn't safe. Idk.
Which One Is Better MTA Or WMATA
they both have their good and bad sides. But as far as aesthetics I like WMATA
Well, if you ever have seen how packed and shitty the NY Subway, Metro-North, and Long Island Railroad are, WMATA is way better.
like did you mean MTA NYC OR MTA MARYLAND
