Yeah, but she's forcing her vocal cords rather than pushing her diaphram. I know cuz I'm a singer as well, and she lacks confidence in this video. That's why she also pushes her earbud inside her ear. All those things I do when I feel my voice is not warmed up properly, so I gotta save the sound by sacrificing my throat a little bit. Of course, It's not good and that's why when she tries to sing the endings or the parts that require air release, she sounds out of tune, because her throat is sore after the chorus

i'm so glad that she didn't turn out like lots of the other child celebrities with drugs and alcohol. she is a true inspiration to many people and i will always be proud to be able to say i was influenced by her while growing up. she is amazing!

Look, I always loved Hilary Duff and her work, but no one can deny that she does lip-sync on almost all the songs unnecessarily. She doesn't dance, don't move very much the presentations. She starts singing live and begins from the moment comes when the high notes (she can very well sing them live!) comes playback.
I stay outraged at such a thing!

This is worth more likes cuz it's live. It's not that perfect, but it has its value. Some people could criticize it, I truly like it though.

I venture to say that this is not playback! It is the first video in which I can appreciate your hearing this song perfectly, his band and choir accompanying so amazing! That is coming out so cool! It's amazing how you can listen to her breath, at let me with my mouth open. Every day I'm glad that can sing live, God willing, one day I can see her in a show

You know it's live because she skipped the high note
it was parcial lipsync tho, it starts in the pre-chorus in "can you hear it calling..." and the whole chorus is her backing track with the second voices in a higher volume than her recorded voice. Its easy to notice as her voice sounds very different live. Parcial lipsync is something sooo used in the industry, even Mariah does it.
Then why would she not lipsync the high note instead of so obviously skipping it?

People who think she's lip syncing the whole thing, you are wrong. She's not lipsyncing, there's a vocal track overlaid over her voice during the chorus. I guess she doesn't think she can belt the whole song.
Nope, I've listened to several of her performances, and sometimes she doesn't hit certain notes(like the powerful note at the end of the bridge). The only thing that is pre-recorded is the chorus(which is overlayed).

It's most likely not. I've taken a look at all of her other performances, and they're all just lipsyncs. In this one she actually sings.
As I said before all of her other performances of this song are lipsyncs, while this one is live(for the verses and most of the bridge that is).
They don't sound "live", all they have is her stopping before the big note at the end. Other than that, they sound totally different.

Im not commenting this to get a reaction out of fans, im just commenting this for people like me who know about being an artist and what its like to LEARN how to sing. It's clearly evident (at least to me anyway) that the music industry/record label was forcing her to transition from acting to singing. (I HAVE BEEN A HILARY DUFF FAN SINCE BEFORE LIZZIE MCGUIRE FYI!!) I genuinely feel like she should have practice singing from her diaphragm and have more practice singing these songs. You can definitely see it in her eyes that she was slightly embarrassed and really frustrated that she couldn't reach those notes. You guys (the fans) have no idea how difficult it is for an artist to reach those notes when they're freshly introduced into music. I love Metamorphosis and was the first album i bought of hers and I know every song on the album. But I feel bad for Hilary in this video because I really wish producers worked with the artist a little longer until they're fully comfortable delivering the songs LIVE. and to answer everyone's question, yes SHE WAS SINGING LIVE in this video and her back up vocals were REALLY helping her.

Mate...I sing for a living, she’s lipsynching here. Not a note was out of place and that’s because it’s prerecorded and auto tuned and melodyned to hell and back. The bridge was specifically recorded for this performance to make it seem more like it’s actually live, it’s the only part that doesn’t sound exactly like the original recording, but even that section is not one take live what she’s singing in this video. None of this is, and I’m a huge fan I adore her, loved all her albums thought she had bops...but she just had serious pitch issues when singing live and Disney never allowed it to be seen out of the fear that it would hurt her record sales. She singlehandedly stopped Disney’s label, Hollywood Records, from going bankrupt! She was a cash cow for them.

There are videos of her microphone being on at her very first tour, singing along with the track, but nothing other than that. Read all of my initial comment, Hollywood Records refused to let her show her raw voice because of how much was riding on her saving the studio from going bankrupt.
gmi g they left the flat notes in there to try to pass it off as live singing, those moments where there are flat notes are actually prerecorded with post processing (things like auto tune) turned off. Those fake “live” moments only last for a few seconds in the verses and then it switches over to the CD, post processed vocal track. If you watch any other “live” video of her singing Fly, you’ll find those exact same flat notes in every single one. It’s simply the CD voice track but altered with pitchy track inserts in the verses
EDIT: it’s been a long time since I’ve listened to this, I just read my other comments, apparently those fake “live” pitchy inserts are also in the bridge

You can't not please everyone don't even try. For me back then or now Hillary Duffy is the best singer around and I am saying it now I good not saying back then I was watching Hillary Duffy on Lizzie McCarthy on Disney channel I loved that show back then good show it was.
Actually you can see she is singing live here. There are a few places where you can see plenty of differences from the album version. I'm not a Hilary Duff fan really but I think from watching some of her live performances, her problem is that her voice sounds too much like the studio version (No heavy studio re-editing on her vocals), she also sings over playback so someone tunes her live vocal out when she gets "pitchy".

I'm biased. I did not grow up listening to Demi Lovato. I think Hilary Duff and the other Disney stars are spectacular. Granted, I don't listen to Duff a lot but this song proves her talent and how how meaningful her songs are.

I listened to this closely with headphones and this is actually completely live. The background vocals are actually sung by the background singers and not just her own voice dubbed over and over like it is on the record. That's a good indication that it's not pre recorded
