- Just a quick video in how I cleared up epoxy that has turned pretty dark yellow.

I had some bad luck and ended up in the hospital for an extended stay. Then had to move from a large home to a tiny one bedroom apartment. All this caused my resin, gallon bottles, to turm yellow. I poured some yesterday and it turned out awful. I'll try this. THANK YOU so much!

I paused this at 55 seconds to see if I could see the color of this. I went on Amazon and got this color for $6. The color you have is Indigo. Thanks! I have gallons upon gallons of epoxy here at my house and this will completely help.

Adding blue tint to industrial clear plastics is pretty common, as it ages the blue is eventually overcome with the yellowing. It adds aging protection optically. When you sterilize plastic with radiation, you first lose the blue, gets more clear, then sometimes get a weird green or yellow. I'm not sure why blue works so well, probably because its opposite on the color wheel from yellow. People dont mind a blue tint, but yellow looks old and tired, so adding blue increases your shelf life of your product at least in peoples minds.
Also. Not all resins lose the yellow with the blue ink. Some of them turn green!

I pretty much make everything using quick coat as long as it doesn't require a deep pore. That will make it flash cure, which is something you don't want. Jewelry is a really good thing to make with a quick cut.

Will it work after you add the blue as a clear coat as a top or flood coat?
So I did that on a quick coat epoxy which I would not use as a final coat but I'd you have an epoxy that has UV protectors then I don't see any reason why you couldn't.
What about purple? Blondes use purple shampoo to get the yellow out?
Your seeing bubbles because of the wood. Use plastic or metal stir sticks.
I'm usually ok with the wood sticks, I was just stirring faster than normal for time purpose. I do want to try them though.
Just out of curiosity, why not add the blue dye to the bottle of yellow hardener and knock it all out at once?
Scientifically I don't know if it will work in just the hardner but personally, the epoxy bottles are not good to mix in. I don't think I want to pour it out of the bottle and back in. Also, I don't know if it will stop the yellowing if you don't use it all of it. And what if you mess up and put too much ink in. Then a whole bottle of epoxy is ruined with a blue tint.

@@magnetficent it's really hard to say. As I understand it, All epoxy gets is yellow over time. Some quicker than others. Meaning some turn in a few months and some it takes a few years. And depending on how much exposure you have to sun and how much UV protection is in your epoxy. There are so many factors. So my recommendation is to get the highest UV resin. You can find keep it out of the sun to prolong any yellowing on your project. That, however, won't stop it from yellowing in the bottles.

Did you look on Amazon? It needs to be a very dark blue.
Does it have to be blue/indigo colour alcohol? Or blue ink? Blue paint?
Yes. The other are concentrated pigments.
Can I use blue mica powder for this or does it have to be alcohol ink?
It has to be Alcohol Ink.

TBH. Idk. All epoxy yellows over time. Some just take longer than others so I wouldn't expect that adding the ink is a permanent fix.
The blue tint eventually will be overcome as it ages, and by aging I mean UV exposure mainly.

No. Acrylic paint is opaque. It will not work the same.
Can I use blue colour pen refill's ink ?
I don't know. I wouldn't think so because that color may be too condensed but you can try it on a small amount. Let me know if it works.

Does it matter what color blue?
I have not tried it with another color but I think the darker blue is going to be the way to go. Or rather, the closest to "primary" blue you can get. If you have a blue that has green in it, I don't think it will work the same.
Will the epoxy when applied yellow over time?.
Unfortunately all epoxy can yellow over time. It's best to keep it out of the sun to help it stay clear longer.

@@paulkinder8440 check out Stone Coat epoxy. They make epoxy specifically for counter tops. They have a bunch of videos. I've used their epoxy and I recommend it.
Stonecoat Epoxy is what i have, i've had it a couple of months unopened and the hardener looks to have a slight yellowish hue to it. I'm just looking at Polyaspartic to see if that would be a better choice.
