ya...flippin...hoooooo ! I did my first training there it was so exiting to learn the art of flight. so easy to go up and lots of training required to get back down. well done pilot Phil.
Instructor pointing. "There's the airport, Phil." Hilarious. Hey, at least he's finally flying. Practice makes perfect. Good video. In fact, I finally have to say, "It's thrilling!" to watch. Thanks.
Hey Phil.... I followed your lead, thanks for posting this training series. I would have never known there was ultralight training so close to the bay area.. I stopped in and took the intro flight with Bill Bardin..... Wow...What a great experience.
Hey Phil....i have been watching all your videos on tbe flight training and wow...brings back memories of my days with my instructor...keep it up...your doing fine...dont rush anything...
Awesome video! Grew up listening to my dad and uncle talk about flying their ultralight in the early 80s. Can't wait to see what it's all about, they said it was the best thing they ever did
U did great!! I accidentally took off in mine on a taxi test thanks to an improper motormount angle. Scared the crap out of me because I had indecent wind coming across the runway which was pushing me over a field and I totally wasn’t to the point of trained up enough to fly yet.. ground looped and woke me right up.
Very good video. You made note of areas that need improvement and you didn't let things overwhelm you either. Your goal is controlled flight. You control the aircraft instead of letting the aircraft control you. Well done!
Damn , I watched 1 and 2 and now that I see ya brother, your a grey beard like me, and ya have the Bar and shield ring. Now I definitely feel like I can learn to fly and get my sports license also. Thanx!! Kewl part is I live in Oakdale, so this guy will be my trainer hopefully in 2021
@@alaskaaksala123 I'm up to "Part 3" so far. :) I generally do what the instructor wants me to, so that's why we're low. As a rule when one is in flight training you usually do what your told. It's only after you 'solo' that you can be PIC (pilot in command) and do what you want. But I think I 'get' why you're asking and that's what 'ultralight planes' are all about. Flying "Low & Slow" so we can see the scenery up close & personal and smell those grass fields. Thanks for the comment and watching. ;)
AEROLITE 103 Builders Vlog definitely agree..when we’re the student we do what’s told. I just wondered if it was windy up higher and that’s why he had you low. But yeah! Low and slow is the way to go! Have you seen Brian Fitzgerald’s videos on here? Now that guy flies low!
No. No particular reason for flying low. Yes. I've seen Fitzgerald's vids and he does fly low. But it's a Quicksilver with a reputation for dependability and that 'fun' factor, as I am experiencing in my instructors.
Thank you so much for posting these training videos! I pass by that airport and see the California Sport Aviation sign every time I head up to UC Davis. I want to go get some ultralight training from Bill Bardin as well as I plan on buying an ultralight within the next couple of years. How was your experience with Bill? I'm really hoping he can train me, I'm disabled and have no legs do when I do buy an ultralight I'm going to have it customized so that I can operate the rudder pedals with a separate stick using my left hand (kind of like the collective on a heli). The problem with this is IDK how to go about training. When I get closer to buying the ultralight I'm going to contact Bill and see what he says. Thanks again and great video, I look forward to more of your content. Maybe some day we could fly together.
Wish there was interest in ULTRALIGHTS in NJ/PA area. I'd love an aerolite! Just no one to give me a ride to try out or train me. We need a dealership out here to get the sport going again. I'll be your first student and customer ;)
Do a search, find you an EAA chapter and join you'll start hearing some buzz about where you can get your UL training.plus you'll make many friends that will be valuable when you begin to build your own UL. Good luck my friend.
That has to be extremely exciting, especially knowing that you have the aerolite waiting! Hope to be doing the same thing soon. Are you going for your light sport licence?
It is very exciting. All the ultralight training and hours at the stick that I am doing now will apply towards my light sport license when I go after it. Thanks for watching.
Out of curiosity do you live local to the Airport or did you stay local and do an intense training ? I'm considering spending as much time as it takes to get trained and get some more experience after the fact too.
Neither. I live 40 miles away one way so I went once a week while the weather was warmer. I have temporarily stopped training till spring. Then I will continue. My instructor is fine with that. I am still 'practicing' at my home airport (on the ground or above the runway) what he's taught me so far. Still haven't solo'd yet. Maybe this spring. Thanks for the comment and watching my videos.
Very cool. Hopefully I'll meet up with you at some point if I decide (likely) to do training in spring (March onwards). I'm a good 2hrs drive away. Been wanting to do this for10+ years and now the timing seems to be right. 2020's gonna be an amazing year !! :-)
Was there a particular reason that the instructor kept you at an unsafe altitude for your circuits? You have zero chance for recovery in the event of an engine out.
Good landing, you dialled it in quickly. Open cockpit ones give ground rush feeling.

Great video, you just need to add your conversation so we can followup and learn with you guy's. Thanks for posting.

I'm so glad Phil posted this too. I never knew about local ultralight training in the Bay Area too. I guess 2020 NY resolution is being formed !!!

Great job!! I've always wanted one of these since I was a kid 47 now and need to start talking to folks about it.
U did great!!

Man, this is so exciting! Thanks so much for sharing your experience!
Great Video. Would be great to hear intercom chatter while in the air to hear the instructors advice.

Hah I thought same lol
Cool video..thanks for posting...there is a lot to think about at first but you look like you’ll do fine.... it’ll be second nature soon.
How many lessons have you taken so far? Do you always fly that low or was it just for this specific lesson?

Awesome video! Your instructor makes it look so easy. You didn’t do half bad yourself.
Thanks for the lessons

Nice job, Phil!
Hurrah for you Phil! That's how you get a "real" adrenaline high. So happy for you. Hope the wife is doing well..........
Thanks, Mark, for both your concerns and "attaboy!".
YEEEEHAAAAAA!!! You know it's a rush. BIG TIME! :)
Good job.
Thanks for the subtitles!
wow.... that was fantastic....great flight , great video shoot....question..are you done with the build of the 103.?
1st I loved the video but I question the 150' AGL round patterns.
great instructor

First video was slow, but this was great.
great cfi

I’m looking to do lessons at the same location, how many flights/hours does it take to get your license?

Where did you get this training? :)
Was there a particular reason that the instructor kept you at an unsafe altitude for your circuits? You have zero chance for recovery in the event of an engine out.
You mean zero chance to put down almost anywhere in the wide open fields he was over? Relax Francis.
Are you still flying?
wow...that goes faster than I imagined. Is that about the same speed your Aerolite will fly?
Hi, yes.
The Instructor i could not hear how he was teaching the student. 5/18/2021
Thank you for no Shazam! intro, no music, no droning voice-over.
pretty cool... whatever you paid for that, it wasn't enough....
Great Video. Would be great to hear intercom chatter while in the air to hear the instructors advice.
Thanks.
Working on the audio issues.
