Usually someone who has a "style" has became competent in a realistic style first, because much of what you learn from a realistic style is directly translated to a cartoon style. To many amateurs, "style" has come to mean "I can draw like this on purpose and just say it's my style." In other words, it becomes an excuse.
That's honestly very true. Styles take YEARS to come about, and once you do, it's not something that changes. Younger artists just say " Hey, I can draw this on purpose without even trying ! It's totally my style :)

Thanks for explaining this so well, lol. Because of my art school background, I was unconsciously trying to do art criticism on this style, since I thought he drew them. Now I know for sure that this is good old-fashioned postmodern appropriation of sources. No wonder these comics made me feel I was back in art school, except no one was laughing then. You could have heard a pin drop.
I'm currently practicing a comic style kind of thing, I was thinking of a story but for now all I'm doing is practicing how to map out a storyboard and practice fighting poses, face expressions, and the anatomy needs work on. I never liked my art style but after seeing this all of a sudden I feel more confident about my art just because I know I could of drawn better on my first year of getting into drawing. I started 2 years ago in late freshman year and I'm not planning anything too big with art till I can get better training in college.
there's always someone better, or worse, but I don't think it is really about competition. It is really hard to develop your own style, but do what Darcy said, "Develop your mind by expensive reading." For me that means getting Kindle unlimited only for the free trial because I can't afford the 10 a month. So why did I want to be an artist again? Well probably it has something to do with the fact that I am a creative person, so I need to do it. It really isn't about who else is better or worse, or what is the latest fad. We are all going to lose everything sooner or later, so it might help to train in different creative fields that you have access to right now, and stop wasting time. (me giving this advice after watching this video, lol.)

GoAnimate is a *COUGH* "PROFESSIONAL" *COUGH* animating platform that includes text-to-speech in it and VERY crappy tools a character customization. 54.9% of the community there makes animations of Calliou getting grounded for an absurdly long time for the most absurd reasons. 45% is the same but it's dora instead. the remaining 0.1% is people making fun of the other 99.9%.

Thanks for explaining this so well, lol. Because of my art school background, I was unconsciously trying to do art criticism on this style, since I thought he drew them. Now I know for sure that this is good old-fashioned postmodern appropriation of sources. No wonder these comics made me feel I was back in art school, except no one was laughing then. You could have heard a pin drop.

I'm currently practicing a comic style kind of thing, I was thinking of a story but for now all I'm doing is practicing how to map out a storyboard and practice fighting poses, face expressions, and the anatomy needs work on. I never liked my art style but after seeing this all of a sudden I feel more confident about my art just because I know I could of drawn better on my first year of getting into drawing. I started 2 years ago in late freshman year and I'm not planning anything too big with art till I can get better training in college.
there's always someone better, or worse, but I don't think it is really about competition. It is really hard to develop your own style, but do what Darcy said, "Develop your mind by expensive reading." For me that means getting Kindle unlimited only for the free trial because I can't afford the 10 a month. So why did I want to be an artist again? Well probably it has something to do with the fact that I am a creative person, so I need to do it. It really isn't about who else is better or worse, or what is the latest fad. We are all going to lose everything sooner or later, so it might help to train in different creative fields that you have access to right now, and stop wasting time. (me giving this advice after watching this video, lol.)

4:27 actually, in goanimate (the website this person used to make the video) it has text to speech built into the website, but there is no gun sound effect. i remember when i made a goanimate thing for a school project i just used the text to speech and make it say pew a couple times
