The Best Surfboard In The World | Ultimate Every Day Surfer Board Test EP1

- The best surfboard in the world... it sounds dramatic, unrealistic and, maybe most importantly, contextual.
Board tests are often conducted by pro surfers on paper thin, custom, high performance shapes in above average waves. I'm a huge fan of these tests however, I don't think they're relevant to the 80%+ surfers in the world who fall into the category of intermediate or below.
What if we could take a dozen of the world's greatest, publicly available shapes and test them in consistent, predictable waves at URBNSURF in Melbourne and adhere to relevant metrics for the every day surfer such as PADDLING POTENTIAL, PREDICTABILITY, RESPONSIVENESS AND OVERALL EASE.
I believe this would edge us closer to the greatest board test of all time.

Thank you so much for watching friends 🙌🏽 this series took A LOT of effort from all involved - please consider sharing it around with some friends if you enjoyed it 🤙🏽 love yas
Keep the feedback coming and we’ll tweak future episodes accordingly
Kale
Your enspaering
You lost me when advanced turns is fav session wtf. I think the chlorine has got to your brain. They spent 40 million to produce tubes and your plugging turns.
Dude, what an organisation to get all those boards and arranging the pool etc... congrats for that succeed !
I love watching you open these boards for the first time. You really do sound like a kid at Christmas. You're so adorably psyched with the way you are giggling over them!
Kale's on Rails!!
looking forward to this series. I just got a psychedelic germ from hayden shapes and loving it so im excited to see a hypto or holy grail in the lineup
kale saw stab in the dark was for premium members only and chose to make his own hahah love it
That is exactly what I was thinking!!!!
😛
Smart move from Kale
Lmao and picked the same board
I hope this blows up because it's way more relevant to us than stab in the dark. Great video dude
Thank you
And ya don't need to pay for this :)
stab in the dark is more about watching your favorite surfers tear up some mystery boards
@@vznquest I totally agree with you
Well said Adi 🤙 G⭐
This is series is gonna be so sick!! Urban surf is definitely on the bucket list
Everyone should do it once to tick off the bucket list, but personally i thought it sucked, take off was weird, wave isn't that easy to surf and it all felt so artificial and wrong, wouldn't go back even if free, would much rather an average day at my local.
Can you teach about types of wave condition? About bumpy waves. Junky waves? Steep waves. sloppy waves. That will be help me to be know about how is speed wave or no. And with one is faster and wich one is it is low. Thank you
One of those videos you just don't want to end. Absolutely awesome!
Thanks legend
Love this, Kale! You looked the best and most comfortable on the CI, in my humble opinion. The Sharp Eye looked like it wanted to run away from you a little bit maybe because you were still getting used to it. Great concept for the video, I really enjoyed it.
Great review packed with lots of fun! I think what a lot of people are also looking for is the best board review for less than average conditions (onshore, weak small beachbreaks you probably wouldn't go out for in Australia, but in Europe) for the intermediate/average surfer that doesn't like longboards. Too many advanced surfer reviews in clean waves out there. So I'm missing the wave type mostly.
As an adult, I still bring my surfboards in the house to ogle the first day I buy them.
I’m glad I’m not alone
I drink excessively and gawk at my new board until I pass out .
I even tuck mine in before bed!
Doesn't everyone ?
Haha we all do it haha it feels nice
Man, this series is gonna be awesome! I can't wait for next weeks episode
Thanks!
Great feature, my guess the board you didn't like is the lost sub driver 2.0, I had one sold it straight away. Looking forward to finding out . Really enjoy your channel
Best premiere of the year!
Thank you!!
Me: mom can I buy stab in the dark
Mom: no we have stab in the dark at home
Stab in the dark at home:
Much more helpful than Stab in the dark ! Well Done!
I bought a Radius from Pyzel because it won SITD twice and I really loved it. We all want to ride the best surfboard and you make our dream comes true Kale. Thanks a lot. Can't wait to watch your series.
Maybe you'll influence me for my next board.
Should you recommend the radius?
@@zacchowdhury8489 For sure, yes! I have a radius and a Hypto krypto.
This series is gonna be crazy! Love the vids mate
replacing stab in the dark I see, smart move.
You didn’t do the BV2 justice not riding it in 2+1 MR twins on an another level of fun
A board review like this is so overdue! Thanks for doing this!
Thank you for watching and sharing with friends 🙌🏽
Great timing this video for me. Currently using a hybrid from surfboard warehouse with a lot of Litres and now have outgrown it with skill, fitness etc. looking for a new short board and want to get a good quality board and have JS Monstabox 2020 at the top of my list from my research.
Sick bro! Can't wait for EP2
That was awesome! Looking forward to more episodes! 🤙
The best short board is the one you brought to surf.
But I would have to go with an Aipa wrapped in Dark Arts
This thing is going to blow so soon! Smart move doing this series! Congratulations!!
Thank you !
I’ve been looking at getting a new short board so this will be very helpful thank you.
This is epic Kale. Great job! I’m really enjoying the realistic feedback and advice on the diff models. Personally I don’t think I could ever justify buying a brand new stick from a shop as they are so exe. But am pumped to hear all about them. Can’t wait for the next episode.🤙🏾👊
WOW WOW WOW¡¡¡ so much work and knowledge packed on this series. I have watched many times and I still come back to it. Are you planing to make one for 2023?
Love this style of Vids Kale! Keep at it! Looking forward to the next one! :D
Thanks Dan!!
Sick man, loved the video! Spoiler alert for stab in the dark winner though haha
Thanks kale really enjoy watching that
Any chance of doing a episode on the best way to surf the Melbourne wave pool -tips and tricks
Watch my reviews - they contain some info :)
Looking forward to seeing you on the Twinsman, I love mine!
You are living the dream mate! I want your job!!! 🤩
😍
Great reviews Kale. As a result of these videos, I've upgraded both of my boards to the Sharp Eye Inferno and also Chilli Mid Strength. Love them both, particularly the middie! Wow.
🙏🏽
You know not sure if it's still relevant, but I watched this a while back and, recently came across it again looking for a new board, and went and got an Inferno 72 poly today. Excited to get out there and give this baby a shot after riding the seaside for so long. Thanks a bunch for all that ya do mate 🤙
That sharpeye just looks so damn sick
Great series! Love the groove/jazz tracks in the background. Toight like a Toiger.
Looking forward to the next one.
Thank you!
Its about time.thank you.please do more boards
Awesome concept! Looking forward to EP 2
Thank you very much
Nice Kale! Cool series, looking forward to more.
I always sleep with surfboards the day I buy it! Can relate great video yew!
Love this can’t wait for the next episode!
Thank you!!!
Awesome review! Cant wait to go to the Urbn wave pool. Im done with crowds here in the NB haha.
can't wait!!!!
Epic!! Cant't wait for the rest of the series. It's funny, the board that looks the best on a wave doesn't always equate with the one that feels the best.
For sure!!
I thought the NB3 looked like it sat in the wave best, with nice flow. Where as the SE seemed to be flicking around more, with more of the board sitting out of the water. I guess the SE looked more ‘electric’, but not as smooth.
If that’s the HS cohort surfboard I saw I’m so keen to know what u think of it. I can’t find any reviews on that board! Review that one next mate yew!
Next episode I believe (or ep 3)
@@KalesBroccoli Oosh your hyping me up now can’t wait!!
this is so sick! keep it up kale
awesome project! looking forward for the next episode
Just ordered the Album Twinsman, left a note about your series. Stoked!!
Nice videooo, can´t wait to the next episode!!
Thanks grommy!!!
This is sick. Love this series already.
Thank you!
Good idea but I was waiting to see all the boards on forehand and backhand as some boards may work well on one and not so well on the other. Also dialing in the fins for each board can also make a big difference as be good to mention what fins you used and if they are the same for each board as I know you probably don't have time to play with fins too much but it is really interesting for us viewers I believe. Also if you got the chili in 5.7 might have gone heaps better also?
🌊👌🥇 Kale in the Light > Stab in the Dark
😂
Hi Kale, great vid!!! Hey did you feel any difference paddling into the urbane surf waves compared to the ocean???
Yeah of course!
Awesome! so glad you are doing this!
Sick!!! Episode two please! Paywall next year? :p
No pay wall. 🙌🏽
@@KalesBroccoli thank you. I missed when stab in the dark was free.
I’m for sure amped on this series. I did notice your style frontside vs backside is very different. Are you testing all the boards both sides? You seem to pump and use the energy of the wave more effectively on your forehand. Thanks for taking the stab in the dark formula to the next level for us normal guys n
Unfortunately not enough time to surf both sides but I can feel a board pretty well enough on either
Well done.. Very enjoyable. Liked how you surfed the chilli.
Cheers
Thank you!
The Sharpie looks sick!!!
The is the best! You used the leash And fins I use! Makes it easier for me
When you were doing your class at urban surf I was doing a lesson on the left hand side like you.
Nice Additions to Add to the Ole Quiver!😎🤙
Thnx!
Nice Kale! Thoroughly good watch 🤙
Thanks very much
Great concept @kale love it! I reckon you need to take it to the next level and feature a more relatable super-average weekend frother to do the same test (someone who doesn't fit the Home & away extras mould 😆). I will happily devote my time to volunteer for this task testing new sticks at the wavepool for you. Look forward to your call 😃🤙
Agree totally, Kale you are a lot better than the average surfer so a bit hard to get a good indication for us not so good surfers!
Nice, Kale! Already watched when it came online :) It came in such a good timing, I just started looking for a new surfboard exactly yesterday! Congrats for the content & charisma
Would you be so kind as to provide the above tested board specs and yours also, so we can make better educated interpretations of these reviews? Sometimes you compared them to what you usually ride, what would those be?
I will have a resource page put together as soon as possible
@@KalesBroccoli thanks! i understand it is a lot of work, i appreciate the effort.
neckbeard looked really good imo, the original neckbeard looked better for airs and tail blows, this one seems to hold rail really well.
Interesting!
Totally thought the same watching it.
@@KalesBroccoli I thought the neckbeard looked good under your feet too, if you get a chance to ride it again, throw some am fins in the board, I've tried many different fins in the nb2 and find the ams suit the board best by far.loving your vids too mate, keep em coming 👌🏽😁
Yo kale, do a surfboard giveaway for 1 of ur subscribers
Great episode Kale !🤙🤙🤙🤙👍👍
Thank you!
What do you think about Torq surfboards?
Wow 👏😮 kale osom tank you for your hard work 💪 and have fun !!
Thanks mate
Outstanding job Kale! When the next episode is going to be online?
In a week
Thank you!!
Super stoked for this series! Do you have a list of all the boards somewhere? How are you deciding which fins to use in different boards?
Creating a resource soon
I thought the same thing about Stab. I would say though, if I'm gonna test out an everyday board from CI especially the Spinetek boards, I would go with the OG Flyer.
I'm mid 60s. How about a review of the high volume, fast paddling, wave catcher short (say up to 6'6") boards?
Would love to do a mid length specific board test and are thinking it could be a good project next year
I ordered a ...lost sub driver 2.0. 6'6 and 42 liters. I'm early 50s and bigger than most if not all of the board testers I've seen except for that guy in England who does reviews.
🤙
Gerry Lopez has some nice looking boards out with surf tech that look good for the older short boarder. I think the "Squirty" comes in a 6'4".
@@KalesBroccoli hey kale, wondering how much you weigh!
Can't wait for episode 2 of 'stab in the Kale' !so good
Haha thanks!
:) gracias kale por este video, la verdad es que me ha ayudado mucho a decidirme
This is so freaking awesome!!!
Cool vid man👍👍👍
Kale mate watch out your on STAB's hit list for this masterpiece 🤙
😂
How do you account for the following:
1. 6 sessions per day. How many of these sessions were taken up by the first four boards?
2. The waves you're surfing sometimes won't match your progression level?
PERSONAL NOTES:
Channel Islands Neck-beard 3
5'7" wid19 1/8 (28.1L): low volume compared to hybrids that are going around.
- Rouded tail for better planing and maneuverability?
- Sensitive response
- Limited turning but really digs in at the tail shaving a lot of speed on turns
Chilli BV 2, Three Stars for Responsiveness
5'8" wid19 1/2 size2 7/16 (29.0L)
- Nosediving a lot: more rocker for messy breaks?
- Sluggish response
Inferno 72
5'9" wid19 1/4 size2 1/2 (27.9L)
- Thrust, board vee, vs double concave
Firewire Flat-earth
5'7" wid19 1/2 size2 1/2 (28.4L)
- Soo much drag
Asking this question early in the video or I'll forget.. are you front footed surfer mid or back? I've been struggling with boards for front footed surfers. I'm a pretty decent surfer but I'm struggling. Thank you for doing what you do!
But if both :)
Album and Sharpeye for the win!!
Can you do a new version of this and include the pyzel happy twin and white tiger
Mate your in full grom mode!!!! Loving this ep buddy! Well done getting all the board makers on board! Neck beard looks like needs bigger fins 4 u? Loved the CI and Flat Earth, the Aipa bros kill it! Looks like the Chilli needed the rails tuned down? Little rail diggy? G⭐
Your ripping mate🤙
Thanks champion!
@@KalesBroccoli Keep up the great work buddy. An early congrats on getting to 100k mate. Woo hoo!!!!🤙 G⭐
Loving this series, can't wait for the next one. Hope it's at least a 30 episode series, haha. Is the sharpeye board dark arts, or just painted black? Either way looked incredible
Just black spray job!
I usually get stoked about newer models, but it's hard to picture a NB3 beating #2 for the small waves.
Kale I hired that bv2 at urbrn surf recently with the red rails
Nice
Great content! Thank you
Thank you for watching
Really going for that Ace Buchan look, eh?!
Men this is great work🤙🏻🤙🏻
Hi Kale - love your videos! What’s the chances of a Ulimate Every Day Surfer LONGBOARD/ SOFT BOARD series? I’m a beginner looking for advice/ direction and done t think I’m alone!? Cheers Paul
The Flat Earth seems to throw huge sprays - did anybody else notice that?
It’s a great board. I’m loving mine. Super responsive and it really does feel like it improved my surfing. Like Kale I found that I had to hold back a little, but the board makes up for it and once you get used to it you can really push into it hard again. When it’s working properly it does make turns feel effortless. Curious whether Kale ever tried it as a twin or 2+1. I’ve only ridden mine as a twin and 2+1. I prefer the twin, but now super curious to try it as a thruster.
epic board ive had many boards over the years and the flat earth for many reason is the best i’ve either ridden or owned .. 2+1 or twin ... wouldn’t try this as a thruster ,fins are pushed back as per twin design makes no sense to even try this as a thruster ,what for it’s too good as per it’s designed fins
Tried it as a thruster this morning and it 100% kills everything that’s great about the board. Made it slower and overall lazy feeling.
Slick production 👌
Thank you
How did you convince the board companies to donate a free board each?? RUclips views?
Please tell me Haydenshapes provided a Hypto Krypto or at least a Holy Grail 🙏 My surfing changed as a beginner/intermediate when I first got a Hypto
Nice work Kale, what's your height weight? What type of waves do you normally surf? eg point, beach? Interesting to see how they go in a wave pool. Some only tested on forehand and others on backhand only?
i dont know if you have tryed the kelly slater FRK board but i do recommend it
GREAT IDEA KALE
We are off the the wave pool next week, hope I get to watch the next episode before then.
Sharpeye is definitely the best board for that wave. Made ur surfing look smooth and flowy
Love it!!
