Love my p30 sk. I’ve own and carried everything after 37 years of law enforcement and this gun rates number one. The quality is second to none. Worth the price.
@MRRW FRA Sigs and CZs are great. I gotta say I used to hate HKs. Now I can't get enough of them. It's funny the more I learned, the more they grew on me.
@MRRW FRA Like all things they're not for everyone. I prefer the LEMs. But I agree, compared to Sig or CZ I think the HK DA/SA isn't as smooth on certain models. But, to me the USP was pretty close. After that, it all comes down to personal feel. For example I tried and tried with Glock, but I didn't shoot them as well as other guns. But another guy can spit nails with it with no problem. That's what I love though. There's so many great handguns nowadays. God bless the USA.
I always appreciate an informative video without the "hey wazup" BS or watching somebody spending 15 minutes removing it from the box. This is one of the best handgun review videos I've watched in its entirety in a long time. THX!!
This is my baby! I bought it because of this video, really helped me to decide..Its the most realistic review I've seen, minus the chronographs and gels, and I still enjoy watching it and agreeing fully! Thanks Sootch!
Does the fact that it partially pre-cocks on the slide make any hammer fired only guys nervous? The whole reason we like the hammer is so there’s no load on the firing pin at all.
P30sk still far better gun than most of these ccw guns today. Far better reliability, accuracy and shoots like a full size combat handgun that you can conceal easily
Great job, brother. I am hoping to have my copy of this little gem very soon.... so many amazing options in this category, and the hits just keep on coming!
Soootch! I just picked up my HK P30SK today! I immediately went to the range and ran 200 rounds through it with no issues whatsover! My hands are huge and my pinky does hang off the end but I had no problems gripping it and firing it. I'll pick up a after market extended magazine when they come out. This is my new CCW just on time for summer carry. Love it!
LOVE your videos Sootch! I work 13 hours a day and train for 6. (I want to enlist in the USMC as an 0311 after i finish up college and eventually be a part of MARSOC or Force Recon) The few hours i get to myself, when i'm not sleeping, i'm on youtube checking out your reviews! Keep up the awesome work!
I saw this gun at my local gun range for $549.....not sure what variant but for that price I better jump on it....thanks for another excellent review!!!
I have one with the LEM trigger and love it. I run 13 round magazines from the VP9 with slide on X-grips to get a better grip and more capacity. Thanks for the review! I had an issue with the slide not locking back the first time I shot it and not since. I never thought I might have had my thumb on the slide release. Thanks for the tip!
Just bought this gun and ran 200 rounds through it. Amazing accuracy! Not a single failure. Very comfortable to shoot. Great sights. It's an awesome pistol! Mine came with one of the magazines with a pinky extension and I prefer that. I just ordered another pinky extension for the other magazine.
I went out and bought the HK P30 SK Sub-Compact, 9mm! This pistol also has the decocker; and a safety. I put 125 rounds through this little HK, without a single hiccup, during my first outing. I used RN, and JHP ammo, i.e. Federal HST, Remington Golden Saber, etc. I love my Glock 26, but this pistol is quickly winning my heart. Folks, please don't sleep on this one!
Beautiful, well done review (especially nicely edited) about my favorite gun company and their latest release. I agree with you that this new release from HK will be one of my new EDCs. I have received an email from XGrips stating that they have received an HKP30SK from HK and are planning to accommodate the new gun with their product making it compatible for higher magazine capabilities while allowing a place for that pinky to rest for those who have larger mitts or just feel better with a three finger grip.
I've owned all kinds of firearms and been primarily a Glock and striker fire guy for my firearms career. I got my first HK P30L recently and now a P30SK. And I am seriously impress d. They just feel extremely well manufactured and the ergonomics are second to none in my opinion. I do miss the lower bore axis but it is still phenomenal
I have the model with only the decocker on the back, if it had a safety I defiantly wouldn't have purchased it. its my first hammer fired gun and that's because its the first one I've come across that's set up in an acceptable way.
I bought mine 2 years ago. Has the additional safety and 12 round extended mag that lets you get your pinky grip. Put approx 800 rounds through it. Never had a single problem. LOVE this gun even more than my Beretta PX4 Storm that I previously used
Sorry to be posting another comment here, but one of the features you love about this pistol has really made an impression on me. That lip on the back of the slide. You show how it allows you to operate the pistol with a disabled arm, and that has been echoing around in my head ever since. Its really changed my perspective on pistols in general, and I find myself thinking over and over again how elegant that simple feature is. I find myself thinking about all the situations someone could get into where you will most likely only use one hand to defend yourself. Hauling something or someone across an area with a weapon in hand is a job for a pistol, defending a car while inside it, defending a chained door, and a hundred others. All with only one hand to operate the pistol, and likely to reload it. Thank you for this perspective. If this HK pistol was available with a larger area between the trigger and the guard, I would make sure to tell whoever at HK, that you are responsible for this sale(but Im not buying this pistol sadly) . That is an excellent feature and its surprising that it isnt more common.
I just added a P30SK to my HK collection. I love it! I picked mine up with the LEM trigger and compare to a standard HK DA/SA trigger, I'd say the LEM is a better tigger. So much smoother. The HK Match trigger for DA/SA is also a good trigger over standard. The VP9/P30 mags work fine in the SK as well. One thing that stands out is that I can't believe how great this grip feels in your hand. It's a two finger grip but it locks into your palm. If you're an HK fan and need a carry gun, this pistol is excellent. The overall weight isn't bad either.
I can't wait to get my hands on one! I carried the Hk USP40 Gen1 for duty and throughout one of the police academies I went through. The full size USP had a terribly long trigger pull, and a strange sort of springy bounce to the hammer that I could even here while shooting. However, that didn't stop me from winning the high shooter's award after going through the pistol qualification course five times, scoring 100% each time. Mine came with three high capacity magazines and night sights and cost me $1000.00. It is one of those guns that has held it's value over time. You can never go wrong buying Hk.
Enjoy your videos. Your VP9SK vid helped me decide to go with that model but now I'm interested in a hammer fired and want to stay with H&K. Thanks and keep up the strong work.
I just got back into handguns. I bought a new S&W M&P M2.0 4.6 10mm and a few others. Then one day, I was in the gun store and happened to see a HK VP9. It looked good so I held it. OH MY.....it felt AMAZING. Then, the next day I put 50 rounds through it at 75 feet on a paper person target. 50 rounds at that range in a 3 inch group and I was firing fast. I'm the type of person who buys about 3 guns a week. I don't even want another one after the HK. That's how good it feels and shoots.
Another AWESOME Review. Loved the high quality photography and the detailed demonstration for changing the grip. The whole review was great, Enjoyed it very much THUMBS WAY UP!!
Saw and handled the P30sk at my local gun shop on 6-5, they had the V1 LEM version in stock for 585.00 with standard sights. They are an authorized Hk dealer so maybe that's why they had it so soon, but other ppl on the hkpro forums have reported seeing them in their local shops last week or so
I've been carrying my p30sk since just after it came out. It is a great weapon. Love the paddle mag release and ambi controls I have th DA/SA variant. I also love the rear decocker. I'm a lefty
I have one! If you haven't tried the LEM trigger do so ASAP. You'll be amazed! My USP Compact .45 ACP that I bought in 2000 spoiled me for life and largely drove my decision to stay with HK when looking for my next EDC compact. It seems to shoot Federal 115gr ball and HST best for me but I have put over 2,500 rds through it without ANY issues.
just picked this one up. I replaced my sig which was full sized just to heavy for CC but great gun. This is my 1st HK and love it so far cant wait to shoot it. I paid 700 out the door minus the good trade in value I got for my sig
Phenomenal video, as always!! Heeded your advice and ended up buying one after watching this video!! Please keep making these thorough videos. They are exceptionally helpful!! Thank you Sootch00 & God bless.
Quick tip: if you press and hold the button on the right side of the slide release and pull back the slide it will lock back to where you need it to be then you can just pull out the slide release the rest of the way.
Finally I have a reason to buy a new P30. Sold my full size because it was just too big to carry and I wanted another gun. I regret turning it loose but acknowledge its shortcomings. I've been carrying the shield for a while but once you own an HK pistol you don't really look at other brands the same way. The level of refinement is unrivaled, especially in the subcompact category which gives up a lot of the luxuries in favor of cocealability.
I'm with you Sootch. I can't wait for the VP9sk. VP9 is my new carry gun. Now if it was just the same size as the P30sk we'd have the perfect carry gun, hands down.
This is an awesome gun! My wife was nice enough to let me shoot 50 rounds through hers today at the range. I would have to say that this is the smoothest hammer fired pistol I have ever shot; SIGs, Beretta's, Colts, Remington, S&W, FNX. The double action trigger has about a 12 lb pull and close to a 6 lb pull in single action mode. There is a crisp reset on the trigger after every shot followed by some take up to get back to the break point. This would make a decent CCW gun. It is the same width as the full size P30 and a small fraction of an inch wider than the VP9, but the VP9 does have those extra pull tabs near the rear sight to make it wider. And it's just over 1/3 of an inch wider than the M&P Shield and PPS M2. It is on the pricier side, we paid ~$600 for ours, I mean hers, and it is well worth the money. She has started saving up for the P30.
Hey sootch00, Thanks for all the time you put into these videos! You are one of my main goto people when looking to get a new gun. I'm working on getting the CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical. I Just shot one last week, and it fit like a glove, love that thing!
Being a lefty, I'm really considering buying one. My LGS has one but the $750 price stings. I'm currently carrying a SW M&P compact 2.0 chambered in 40 S&W. I also have the 9mm 3.6 in compact S&W M&P 2.0. I'm in love with those two firearms. it would be nice if Smith came out with fully ambidextrous handguns.
I am actually thinking of getting the P30sk, I have carried a Glock 26 for 15 years and recently I went to the range and shot a box of PMC and a box of Winchester white box and I had 9 light primer strikes with the PMC and 6 with the Winchester. Then I loaded 10 rounds of 124gr Double Tap and all 10 rounds had light primer strikes. I sent the gun to Glock and of course they said they couldn't find anything wrong?! So I carried a worthless hunk of steel for who knows how long? I want something that I can rely on to work.
I love this gun. The P30s can be run hard. I carry my SK (SA/DA decocker only) with the 13 round mags and it feels just perfect. I got the 15 round mags also but then you might as well just carry the regular P30. Love the decocker right next to the hammer also. The military should have adopted the P30 over the SIG.
Sootch, Love all of your reviews you do a great job. My question is that you stated the P30SK was available in FDE? Please elaborate because I can't find that anywhere online. I might want to order that version. thanks!
I have an HKP30L which is great and wished for a concealable version. This looks great. I have a Walther CCP. Is this much different? Looks slightly thicker, etc. The Walther feels nice in hand, but I am more used to the HK.
Another great review. I do not like the LEM trigger, on paper. Why sacrifice the feeling of a good single action trigger 9 times just for a smooth first shot? But maybe I just have to try one to understand it. Keep the videos up.
92JoseR I am with you. I am under the impression that you only have one shot that is a lighter pull. Maybe Sootch can explain for newbies and experienced. I would never want a heavy trigger pull for 9 shots.
When you insert a mag with ammo, rack the gun, then its all light triggerpulls. Only if you have a round that dosnt go off will you have a heavy triggerpull on the next pull off the trigger. Everytime the slide goes back, triggerpull is light.
92JoseR Personally I don't think there is any sacrifice for a carry gun. My light LEM is a pleasure to shoot, it's very light and long. It's meant as a quick draw, quick pull type of trigger that is "safe". I know that's relative though. It's a pretty genius carry trigger if you ask me. There are better match range triggers, but I think light LEM is the best for carry, of course it's all opinion. Well, then there's the P7 with single action beautiful trigger that is the absolute best carry gun. YMMV
It's supposed to be more like a revolver pull, but a little lighter. In law enforcement, they use heavier triggers (not always) because they want the gun firing DELIBERATELY, not by accident. It's like erring on the side of caution kind of thing.
You dont understand LEM triggers clearly. You only have a light and long pull for the safety feature. Once you hit the point of the triggers actual break, its like shooting a single action, you need to ride the reset like a good shooter, not fully release the takeup of the trigger. Get it?
Hey Sootch, I will tell you that the Glock 26 has a different mag well configuration than the P30SK. The Mag Well in the SK, the front strap comes down to envelope the front of mag while the Glock 26 front strap is shorter and leave a gap between the bottom of the front strap and the mag. I have constant Mag bite where the flesh of my finger get caught in that little gap and I develop an irritation at that exact spot. It just makes the Glock 26 less fun to shoot. The only remedy is to use a 19 mag in the 26 which stops the bite as there is not place to pinch you. The SK looks like it would be less painful and therefore more fun to shoot.
Love my p30 sk. I’ve own and carried everything after 37 years of law enforcement and this gun rates number one. The quality is second to none. Worth the price.
Once you shoot an HK you will be a fan for life.
MRRW FRA I've shot all three. CZs are awesome, SIG makes some great guns and some pieces of shit. HK is the best.
Adam Panzer Id have to agree with Adam
MRRW FRA Maybe in my life I''ll be able to shoot an assortment of guns...LOL
@MRRW FRA Sigs and CZs are great. I gotta say I used to hate HKs. Now I can't get enough of them. It's funny the more I learned, the more they grew on me.

It is, in my opinion, the best concealed carry gun yet released.
5 years later, I still love this gun.
4 years later I still say this is the best carry gun
Yep, love my p30's:)
Have u ever heard of the glock 26? It’s sooo much better!
@@bobbylee9862 P365 son.
Yea....heard of the Glock 26 (Yawn). HK all the way!

The LEM trigger is like a hammer/striker hybrid design, ingenious!
Does the fact that it partially pre-cocks on the slide make any hammer fired only guys nervous? The whole reason we like the hammer is so there’s no load on the firing pin at all.
@@mattbain3226 the V1/LEM does not have a decocker.
The V3/DA-SA is the decocker and safety
LEM is The Best
@@mattbain3226 yeah a little. But this looks like a good compromise. I would probably get true DA/SA with decocker.
Going to need one of these in the safe/waistband!
By safe….. you mean barcave right? Lol
P30sk still far better gun than most of these ccw guns today. Far better reliability, accuracy and shoots like a full size combat handgun that you can conceal easily
Man, I don't normally feel the need to run out and buy a gun after watching videos but I have a massive urge to pick one of these up.
Sootch, in my opinion, you have one of the very best gun channels on youtube.
The best review of gun I have seen yet.
Finally, someone that is a good shot, demonstrating the capabilities of this great, little pistol.
Great job, brother. I am hoping to have my copy of this little gem very soon.... so many amazing options in this category, and the hits just keep on coming!
Loving mine. Trigger feels great. I edited to add, the 10 round mag makes a fast reload a concentrating challenge.

Awesome !
They will take the mags from the Vp9 and p30. This is a great selling point.
Great new offerings from HK!
Thanks Sootch00!
Moshe Dayan Yes, they take the P30 mags.
I saw this gun at my local gun range for $549.....not sure what variant but for that price I better jump on it....thanks for another excellent review!!!
As an admirer of a good Revolver "Double Action" trigger, this V1 LEM variant is reminiscent of an ultra smooth and lightened DA revolver!

I love your reviews. I watch you and Mike from Mrgunsngear. I've always been a Glock fan, but my VP9 LE has changed my mind

Sootch, thanks for doing a good review on the new H&K P30. I know H&K makes top quality
firearms. I liked seeing H&K continuing with their standards.
Informative, fact-filled reviews, and no time wasted. You make picking out a new purchase so much easier.

Shooting the HK such a pleasure.

Well, I have one in my hand now, couldn' turn it down. Love it more than my glocks whic is a tough sell.
I have his exact gun and have to say I really like the LEM trigger. And I'm a Sig guy too. Great review!

The best HK review. Greetings from Madrid, Spain.
If I could have a gun, this would be it. There is just something right here.

Quick tip: if you press and hold the button on the right side of the slide release and pull back the slide it will lock back to where you need it to be then you can just pull out the slide release the rest of the way.
the added velocity actually comes from more drag. and a better seal on the bullet. this raises the pressure and give a little more velocity.
Nice gun. Excellent review as always.

Glad you did a review on this! I'd love to see a comparison video comparing it to g19, g26, MP 9c, etc. Good work lately Sootch
pertaining to the release issue.. welcome to the world of leftys now you know how we feel .. just in general
That accuracy though.... wow.
I already have a P30 and a P30L looks like it’s time to add this to my collection
Thanks for the such a great and in-depth review looking to pick one up soon.
That is one sweet pistol!
Pick one up last week V1 with night sights and 3 mags. Scotch, TY again for your review!
Trigger pull is too long though.
Great video as usual. I have a P2000SK and love it. Now I want one of these.
The world wants striker fired guns. Glad they at least avoided the damn Glock. Me, I prefer hammers. I have the p30. May get this p30sk at some point.
This(P30SK), along with Sigs P239 & P224, are the TOPS in a service sub-compact:) Mike.
V3 w/decocker suits me better w/L.E. background.
Sootch, Love all of your reviews you do a great job. My question is that you stated the P30SK was available in FDE? Please elaborate because I can't find that anywhere online. I might want to order that version. thanks!
I was really interested in buying the HK P30SK but the pinky not fitting on the grip might be the deal breaker for me.
Rez crybaby
You can get an extended mag to assist with that.
Rez it's a subcompact, it's supposed to be a two finger grip.
I just handled one today with an extended grip. Felt great. And I'm picky as hell about grips.
Hk rules!
This is on my short list , thanks for the review.
purchased one for Christmas...and love it
