I do a lot of color exploring in my own sketchbooks but for some reason it is so enjoyable to watch another artist do it too! Love your channel and paintings.
Hi Louise..I just discovered you since I started searching abstract artists. Yesterday I watched your interview with Jacqui Fehl and Sharon Hart and they struck a chord. I create alone and do not have a "tribe" in the art world. You did a great job interviewing/conversing with both women. Thanks
Love this exercise. I just did the one on greens mentioned in one of your other videos. Loving where these colour watching is taking me as well. I have done with orange and will be trying with different shades with different reds, blues etc! I am using paint tubes that I have had for years and figured better use them then they go dry lol. Thank you so much. I will be gessoing some large sheet for further exercise!
I was doing all of these experiments but could never manage to keep it all in one place so I could refer back to it. So I bought a notebook and a bunch of plastic sleeves that are used for storing baseball cards. Then I cut a whole bunch of paper to fit the slots and just started creating all sorts of colors. I try to keep it basically organized by color family. It's was a great way to find new colors, but most importantly, I have a book now that I can put my hands on when I just can't figure out what color I need. Now if I could just take all those colors and create the type of beautiful abstracts like you do I'd be even happier! LOL.... Cheers!
Great tip! Thanks xx I find it very soothing to sit and mix different colours if I don’t want to do a ‘proper’ painting, but love the idea of using 3 colours you don’t normally use plus black and white 🥰
This is a brilliant idea! I sometimes struggle to remember what I used to create a certain colour, especially the greens. A sketchbook dedicated to colour combinations is definitely in my near future. Thank you!

How do you make the palette you are using? Do you use it when you are painting also? So much room! What do you do with left over paint you want to save?
Great as usual🙂 would you be able to recreate each color after so much mixing? I assume yes, otherwise you probably wouldn't be going through the trouble. Thanks Louise!
Truth to tell, I hate intentional swatching, for me it is a waste of creative juice. It's always a mess & I never use the ones I do anyway. I just pick a set of colors when I sit down to paint and see what happens from there. Having a great sense of color harmony is what brought me to painting in the first place, after all :).
@@ThisPaintingLife Whoops, I didn't mean to dismiss the technique, I was just sharing. It is a really good way to learn color mixing, for sure! Did not mean to sound superior to the technique, even though it reads like that.
why I buy a new color (I'm still filling my stash), I make a long strips with heavy paper and do color and value tests with it and any colors I think I might use for mixing. Like when I got my Viriden Green, I did test strips with mixes with yellow ocher, cad yell med, cad yell light, ultra marine, etc., also using black and white for values. Then I punch a hole at the top of each and string onto a piece of yarn with the previous test strips.
Love your repurposed palette tray! And those messy painter 👩🎨 hands!

Thanks for watching xx
How fun! I can see doing this just for stress relief and relaxation!
Totally!
Thank you Louise! VERY informative.👍🥰
You are so welcome!
Look at those hands 💟 love it!
Thank you!

I am so pleased you enjoyed them xx
Thanks, Louise! I mixed some colors over the weekend and it was fun.
Wonderful! That's what it's all about :)

Wonderful!
Another great color-mixing exercise! I'm going to try this one, too. I'm a beginner, and I find these tutorials so helpful. Thank you!
You're so welcome! Have fun

That's a great idea! I am so disorganised
Great exercise, great demo, great video. Loving your video series!
Glad you like them!
I really needed to watch this, thank you so very much!
Glad it was helpful!
Another exploration of "what ifs." starting a new series, so it might be a great time to pull out those dusty tubes and pots and do some excavating!
Have fun!

Yes it brings up some real surprises as well as some 'yuk' moments x

Thank you for your fresh, inspiring approach to creating. I hope to join your free course in June.

Great thanks for sharing Louise :)
Thanks for watching!
this is so inspiring! I'm just starting out and having a blast, and you've taught and inspired me a ton already. thanks!!
I'm so glad!
Thanks Louise! I really need to get back into my acrylics, look at all those swatches I made in your 10 day course.....
You got this!
Thanks very much......appreciated!
You're welcome!
Probably worth noting the make of the paint as colours vary a great deal eg, Liqitexpaynes grey
Yes if you want to do that, please do!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕💕💕

Then you don't need this technique :)

That sounds great!
This is really helpful! Thank you! Do you have a hard time recreating the colors if you want to use them at a later date?
Not at all - limited palettes mean you can always recreate anything
Is there a black you prefer or do you use different ones? This is a helpful video.♥️
I use Mars black but I can't say I've really tried others
Oh must have a go.
Have fun!
Whoops. Liqitex paynes grey is totally different from Sennelier paynes grey so worth noting the make on the swatches.
I adore these colors. If you don’t like them, send them my way LOL 😉
You can make them yourself!
