@@BSideRapReviews I need to confess that i'm a 63 year old white guy. I first heard Simz on the radio on 6 Music; it's a uk radio station. Bear in mind that i'd never previously listened to any rap music, but in 2021 September, I was driving my car listening to 6 music, and "I might be introvert" came on It blew my mind. I'd never heard anything like it; and I for the first time, realised that rap music might be a serious form of art. Anyway, it was the cinematic scope of the production and the soundscape of what she was producing ( I understand that the production also includes Inflo) that caused me to realize that she is a very significant artist. So, I'm a white boy, but I happen also to be a born again Simz fan.
@@McCherrill Born again simz fan 😂😂😂 that’s a dope orgin story haha. So what’s your go to genre before you started listening to rap? Pretty impressed that you were able to pick up on simz talent off one listen - I feel like it took a while for my ear to get adjusted to listening to really lyrical artists. I’ve pretty much always listened to rap but I didn’t really see it as an actual art form til i was about 13-14. I had a similar experience as you, but it was an extremely unpopular song called “escape earth” by a rapper named Diverse and that’s where I realized how much meaning art could have. Then as my knowledge grew I realized that great rap is just a combination of poetic devices…it just has beats behind it. Preciate you sharing man! Any other rappers you really rock with?
@@BSideRapReviews So, my go to music currently would be bands like Wet Leg, Dry Cleaning, Squid, Sleaford Mods and a few others. The music that formed me was Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, then prog rock, then blues; particularly John Lee Hooker, then punk followed by post punk. I also listen to some classical music. Regarding rap, I just assumed that I was not the target audience, so I didn't pay any real attention to it. The reason why Introvert, the track, hit me so hard that day, was that she was expressing what it is to be an introvert navigating the world; and that makes it universal. It's not about being, say black, although she has a well developed sense of cultural identity, but it's about a way of being in the world as a psychological type; and _that's_ how I was able to relate. Even taking the next track on the album, Woman; she makes it so universal, that I, a man can feel that I'm identifying with women. It's insane what she achieves. Another point to make about Introvert, the track, is that you need to see the accompanying video; and then you realize that she is not a musician, but a mixed media artist. Anyway man, please suggest other rap artists that I should explore.
Little Simz continues to show why she is one of the best rappers in the world. This album was amazing from the content, to the production, and the rapping. There is much great albums this year so I can't decide where this album ranks yet.

I need to confess that i'm a 63 year old white guy.
I first heard Simz on the radio on 6 Music; it's a uk radio station.
Bear in mind that i'd never previously listened to any rap music, but in 2021 September, I was driving my car listening to 6 music, and "I might be introvert" came on
It blew my mind.
I forgot to add that I'm also an old man
@@McCherrill Born again simz fan 😂😂😂 that’s a dope orgin story haha.
