  • Played on Feb. 11, 2000. The 4A #1 (18-0) Marion basketball team faced the (2-13) Berries. Logansport came out confident and shot from deep the 1st half. The Giants had a 43-28 halftime lead. The Berries outscored Marion 17-11 in the 3rd quarter and rallied from a 9 point deficit in the final 2 minutes to tie it at 78-all with 17 seconds left in the game. After a questionable out-of-bounds play went against Logansport, Deuce Miller missed a 3 pointer after Isaac McClung fed it to him. Zach Randolph put in the winning rebound basket with no time left. The Marion student-body rushed the court, and Marion stayed undefeated on the season. Matt Backs scored 21 first half points on (10-17) shooting with 8 rebounds. Reggie Nevels scored a career high 20 (8-12) shots with 5 boards and Zach Randolph had 18 points on (9-14) shots but was (0-5) from the free throw line. He also grabbed 14 rebounds and had 7 assists.
    For Logansport, Brandon Hetz scored 23 (7 threes), Brandon Richie had 18 (3 threes). Michael Bowditch had 15 (5 threes) and Kyle Price scored 10. In their very next game, the Giants would lose the only game of a State Championship season to Muncie Central and finish 24-1.
