In the 6500 edition they reacted to this and hardened the pins as far as i know. Its not just 1:30 it's 3:38 (that''s the length of the video). The real problem i see is not that the lock is not secure enough. It seems to take a lot of time and none of the cars is stopping although they all see you. Bicycle theft is not considered a real crime by the public. They just drive by watching you. If you would be trying to get into a car someone would call the police. People are much more emotionally attached to their oil-burning cars.
Well they were in front of a bike shop and didn't look like dirtbags in a hurry to steal a bike, so that's one reason. Next it took longer than a minute and a half to cut. Any lick can be defeated, the thing you're trying to buy is time. If it takes too long and/or draws too much attention, they will most likely leave. I'll be getting an ABUS lock with the alarm.

If people are worried about locks don’t usually bike thief’s wants quick and easy targets doesn’t matter the cost the harder you make it the more they’ll walk away this bike lock with a alarm will do fine. What the fuck is wrong with people thinking there would be a lock for bicycles that can't be broken? There isn't such a system for many way more valuable things. Every car can be stolen, every house can be broken into it's just a matter of how difficult it will be compared to what the thieves will get from it, and how long it will take or rather how exposed the thieves will be while doing it. And the other thing is why even bother with locks that strong when you can cut off that whole bike stand in less time.... 1:30? It might still be a decent lock if cutting pin isn't possible with smaller bolt cutters that thieves use more often. Otherwise only 16mm shackle u-locks are too big for those big cutters they have. They slip off 16mm shackle so without angle grinder or very good lock picking skills 16mm u-lock is the only lock that makes your bike safe.
I have that lock and this video proves what exactly? That with the right tools you can cut a lock? My plasma cutter will cut 20mm of solid steel but that doesn't prove anything either. Because let's face it, the bike thief would be better off using shaped plastic explosive charge, it would take half the time. Did you see the size of those bolt cutters. It a good lock end of story.
It is a good lock. Unfortunately we are in Vancouver, BC, and it is not unheard of for the thieves here to use bolt cutters that big. They strap it to their neck and hide it under a loose sweater or jacket. What this demonstration proved to us is that if you have to lock your bike up in Vancouver for an extended period of time, you should consider a secondary lock as well. If you use the Bordo in combination with a U-Lock that can withstand 30" bolt cutters your bike will be very secure. The thief would need an angle grinder or your plasma cutter.
It's all about learning the average theif don't walk about with a plasma cutting however they can carry bolt cutting equipment bare that in mind when locking up your plasma cutter
I see bike thefts all the time walking down the street with a pair of bolt cutters in their hands, and even with bolt cutter's, it wasn't an easy task to cut.

just bought one of these and hopefully using it along with a cable lock for the front wheel will be enough of a deterrent to keep the scumbags away from my ride...will upgrade the cable to a quality u lock soon to make the effort seem even less worthwhile and after that its in God's hands, or mine if some s.o.b. gets unlucky enough to have me catch him messing with what's mine...
Hey Raff, We think it's a very good lock and stand behind it, it's a good in-between a U-lock and A chain. There are very few thieves bold enough to walk around toting 36" Bolt cutters, which is what would be required to open the jaws wide enough to clamp around that pin. --Kyle
Bonvista The Granit X-Plus 6500 has larger pins and thicker plates. The 30" bolt cutter jaws don't open large enough to bite the pins. Whether or not the plates are strong enough we will find out when we test it but our suspicion is they will stand up.
The thieves carry cordless grinders that can cut within seconds. Perhaps the best would be an electronic type lock that notifies your smart phone app if it is being tampered with. (So you can catch the bastard)...
It's people like you that made me realize how unsafe my bike was with this kind of lock. I still use it, but only in addition to a good U-lock. If someone really wants my bike they'll steal it, I just want them to find another bike more attractive than mine. One lock is easier to deal with than two.
I call Bullshit! You are enabling thieves. When a bike thief is confronted with a new lock not prior known to him he will have more problems then when he's able to get to know the weak point of every specific lock on RUclips prior to the theft attempt. I say thank you for invalidating my investment in a premium bicycle lock by showing it's only weak point to a global public of 7 billion people. If you want to help with lock security, communicate the insecurities directly to the manufacturer not to a global public of 7 billion people.
You guys should think about your headlines. People who want to PREVENT bike steals from happening SHOULD FIND your videos not the ones who want to steal my fucking bike.
My bike was recently stolen. I had it locked with an ABUS bordo lite. after that experience I'm going back to my kryptonite u-lock, its the best u-lock I've ever had.
It's all about low hanging fruit...most thieves can't easily defeat these locks and won't even try. Personally I use a chain with a grenade and pull-pin for the lock.
If you simply just use a zip tie to hold the boltcutter's head in place, you're done in no time :( ... to keep the bike at your arm's reach is still the best security measure.
Given enough time and violence every lock will be either openend, bypassed or broken. Time, visibility and noise are your friends. So where and to what are you locking it, and will anyone be likely to come check. Thats all we can do...
Locks are nothing more than deterrents. It's real simple. EVERY bike lock on the market today, and most likely in the future, can be defeated IF bystander after bystander simply walks by ignoring the thief with bolt-cutters or whatever other tool the thief is using without confronting the thief or finding someone (ie. police) that will confront the thief. It takes a lot of balls for any thief to even try this knowing the owner of the bike (and not knowing the size of the owner) can come around the corner, catch them in the act and then proceed to beat the living hell out of him.
This would have been much faster if you weren't worried about scratching the bike. Instead of finding a way to balance the lock in mid air the way he was, a thief would just press the lock against the bike with the cutters. munch munch and snip. I would guess 10-15 seconds without all the repositioning and holding the lock in his hands.
The moral of the video is: Get two bikes. One very cheap sub $100 walmart bike for daily commute and always park and lock it next to expensive bike. The second expensive bike for the weekend mountain trail which you will never leave your bike alone.
so that sucked... try or is there a video of them breaking the Iven Chain 8210, or just lock picking it. i wanna know how strong it is because it is recommended by insurance.
Wow, that took some work, do thieves really take their time like that while people are watching? I naively thought they just tried it once if it didn't break right away they moved on. What lock do you recommend if any? Thanks for this video

So what's the verdict Kyle? Good lock or not really, is there better ones in the market?
Hey Raff,
We think it's a very good lock and stand behind it, it's a good in-between a U-lock and A chain. There are very few thieves bold enough to walk around toting 36" Bolt cutters, which is what would be required to open the jaws wide enough to clamp around that pin.
--Kyle
House of Chain what about the superior model that came out last year? The ABUS Bordo granit x-plus 6500?
Bonvista The Granit X-Plus 6500 has larger pins and thicker plates. The 30" bolt cutter jaws don't open large enough to bite the pins. Whether or not the plates are strong enough we will find out when we test it but our suspicion is they will stand up.
ok! Looking forward to it!
House of Chain Hi ! I've just bought a BORDO 6400, pretty the same as BORDO 6500. When will you test the 6500 ? Can you already give us a test date ?
I like this kind of bike lock
That has stopped me wasting my money on this lock. Thanks very much.
You think any other lock will do any better? lol
Olav Troll I think that there are better locks, what about the ABUS Granit X-Plus 540 for example?
The thieves carry cordless grinders that can cut within seconds. Perhaps the best would be an electronic type lock that notifies your smart phone app if it is being tampered with. (So you can catch the bastard)...
If they want your bike nothing will stop them. Park your bike sensibly !! Oh I left my bike down a dark alley and it got stolen, I wonder why?
training bike thieves since 2014
Bike thieves already know how to steal your bike. We are letting you know how they do it so you can take steps to prevent it from happening.
House of Chain exactly make it harder for them
It's people like you that made me realize how unsafe my bike was with this kind of lock. I still use it, but only in addition to a good U-lock. If someone really wants my bike they'll steal it, I just want them to find another bike more attractive than mine. One lock is easier to deal with than two.

Bike Theft 101.
I call Bullshit! You are enabling thieves. When a bike thief is
confronted with a new lock not prior known to him he will have more
problems then when he's able to get to know the weak point of every
specific lock on RUclips prior to the theft attempt. I say thank you for invalidating my investment in a premium bicycle
lock by showing it's only weak point to a global public of 7 billion people.
If you want to help with lock security, communicate the
insecurities directly to the manufacturer not to a global public of 7
billion people.
Thank you!!! I lost my key and was at a loss as to what to do
I wonder this demo should benefit ?? the bike owner or the future bike thieves??
You guys should think about your headlines. People who want to PREVENT bike steals from happening SHOULD FIND your videos not the ones who want to steal my fucking bike.
My bike was recently stolen. I had it locked with an ABUS bordo lite. after that experience I'm going back to my kryptonite u-lock, its the best u-lock I've ever had.
Lite, you said it all. Total garbage.
Maybe they should allow the police to deal with bike thieves the same way they deal with drug traffickers in the Philippines!
The new one has an alarm that would have been sounding by now. Test that.
how do you still have digits
The best thing to do, if you dont want to steal you bike better not to use it.
It's all about low hanging fruit...most thieves can't easily defeat these locks and won't even try. Personally I use a chain with a grenade and pull-pin for the lock.
any lock can be broken, but this one takes a bit of time. they can't get it on the first try... there will be other bikes with cheaper locks nearby
Good to know. No locker is efficient when one uses the brute force...
If you simply just use a zip tie to hold the boltcutter's head in place, you're done in no time :( ... to keep the bike at your arm's reach is still the best security measure.
But what if it also has an acoustic alarm? 😃👌🏻
Given enough time and violence every lock will be either openend, bypassed or broken.
Time, visibility and noise are your friends.
So where and to what are you locking it, and will anyone be likely to come check.
Thats all we can do...
No matter how much noise a thief is making with an angle grinder on a public street in broad daylight, 99.8% of people will just keep on walking past.
I quite regularly cut abus padlocks off of mobility scooters (in a professional capacity) and nobody ever gives a damn..
Now try it with the one that has the alarm....
Hmm... I thought Abus foldable locks were durable than that. Fortunately I haven't hit the 'Buy now' button yet...
He took 2 minutes, not one like he told.
Bend the cutters with your mind, there is no lock Neo.
The moral of the video is: Get two bikes. One very cheap sub $100 walmart bike for daily commute and always park and lock it next to expensive bike. The second expensive bike for the weekend mountain trail which you will never leave your bike alone.
so that sucked... try or is there a video of them breaking the Iven Chain 8210, or just lock picking it. i wanna know how strong it is because it is recommended by insurance.
yes, really easy.. especially since most thieves carry a giant bolt cutter with them on the street.
André Persson You’d be surprised
Haven't you ever watched an episode of Cops?
Anybody stopped while wearing a backpack will surely have a bolt cutter in it.
Luckily it has alarm that make you deef by the time you broke it
1.13 to 2.59 is the time it took the guy to cut it open
If you remove the wheel skewers, the thief will get a nasty surprise when they ride away.
Terrible. I’m going to get this lock. Is there a link in the description below?
ABUS Bordo Granit XPlus 6500 over this or are folding lock basically the same
Wow, that took some work, do thieves really take their time like that while people are watching? I naively thought they just tried it once if it didn't break right away they moved on. What lock do you recommend if any? Thanks for this video
Really depends. But obviously they'll just keep trying until they're caught. They have nothing to lose.
Thanks for testing that. I was looking for buy it for myself. Now I need to do some more looking.
Buy this one, this is what I use. Those guys were idiots, who carry's around 40" bolt cutters in broad daylight. Not to include trying to steal a JUNK ASS bike. www.abus.com/eng/Mobile-Security/Bike-Safety-and-Security/Locks/U-locks/GRANIT-Plus-640/(variant)/39703
i feel like im trippin on acid watching this ..wtf!!
I don't know where you're living, but here in Germany people would have asked a few questions as soon you pulled the tool and you would be most likely arrested before you even touch the lock.
denkst auch nur du😂😂😂
