Dude, this was my favorite arcade game as a kid. Nothing else even comes close. So cool to see the custom trim and very glad to see it in the hands of someone who will appreciate it.
Hahahaha I love the doggies and the colossus scream!!! Pro tip Storm is the best character in the game because she has a longer hit reach detection with her baton. I love the way this cab came out it looks incredible bravo bravo 👏
Thanks man, I love hearing that. We need as many people as we can to help keep the hobby alive. Also, I love knowing that the machines will have a 2nd chance. You rock brother!
So crazy I was just talking to my friend at work about the 6 man Xmen arcade about 20 mins before your video came out. Perfect timing, he watched this video with me!
I had my 8th birthday party at an arcade in 1994 and I spent almost all my tokens on this game but it was worth it. X-men is my favorite arcade game of all time and on top of the gameplay, I really love the music in this game.
@4:40 you definitely need some arcade like carpet, preferably with neon colors that reflect in a darklight, and then youdd also need some dark lighting of course.
Great job on the restore! I grew up playing the 4 player version at my local Walmart. I remember seeing the 6 player version while at Disneyland back in 94. Fast forward more than 10 years later and I ended up buying my own 6 player X-Men on the cheap because it was broken.
Let out an audible "wow" when you should us the X-Men cab. Oh man, I think you did a great job dude. Love the switch to go between games. Also, gotta say, love seeing Outrun and Afterburner in your collection. Stay cool man.
I love that your former first-floor office is now the VIP game room :) It's like the top-shelf booze of arcade cabs And I also love the garage-cade lighting !
If you're ever in Reno, Nv check out an arcade/bar called Press Start. They have the 6 player coffin box X-Men cab along with other various pinballs and arcade games.
Next level man! Totally RAD! Beat em ups aren't as fun at home no, as a kid with limited dough, and a bunch of other kids around you all equally buzzed on Cola and hype. Great vid man!
Congrats Ralph!! It looks awesome! I went to the bank a while back and got a roll of quarters. I only play using them because you are spot on about what that offers when you play! Did I see correctly, you have 2 SMASH TV cabs??
wow close call with the smash tv, haha... hoping whatever it is isn't a tough fix. X-MEN looking pretty sweet though love the yellow trim t-moulding! when I get a minute I gotta revisit it in MAME using my atgames joystick for sure.
Ha, I don't care about that cabinet but the video was still pretty fun. Digging the magenta garagecade lighting. So jealous that you have the Stranger Things pinball (and space for it).
Looks great. Button orientation is perfect. I hate the button orientation on TMNT where jump and attack are switched. Back then not a big deal but now it is hard to go back to that.
I made a video on my channel where I made my coin return buttons my coin in buttons, just wire the switches to coin in. So it gives the feeling of the motion when you need to coin in to bend down and coin in. That way there's no out of place unsightly button on a coin door or cabinet somewhere.
I agree about how some games (like X-Men and Turtles) are less fun at home or on freeplay. What I typically do is “the 10 token challenge”… at the beginning I coin up 10 credits and then that’s all I allow myself. It’s fun to see how far you can progress or how high a score you can get with a limited number of continues. Try it out sometime!
Man that came out beautiful. I was looking into a tankless water heater for the garage when I put games in there. Mine is over 15 years old and I’m worried about it breaking and leaking. Have you had yours replaced?
I appreciate the comment, but what's interesting to report on when it comes to Arcade1up? I'm really interested in hearing your feedback. It's all the same since I stopped with very little IMO that's interesting.
@@RetroRalph That's just it.... it's not about what Arcade1up is doing.... it was about you were doing with Arcade1ups.... The community needs folks that can mod something that is a relatively blank canvas and create something unexpected. With full scale originals you find them owned by purists and essentially just getting content of rehab after rehab of the old units. This is where youtube content about original hardware starts and ends. I think the 3/4 scale market is more approachable. No huge risk to damaging a piece of history. What I always loved about your old videos is your openness to take those risks with an arcade1up and bring us along with you on that journey.
For the "beat-em-up-coin-muncher" games I find the credit challenges to be the best way to get the excitement back. Challenge yourself to beat the game on say 30 credits. Then try less and less. I'm down to 2 credits on TMNT now after starting at 50. Just one more push for the 1CC.
I've got an original captain commando as well. My second machine. Been hard not to turn it into a super turbo but it's safe for now. I might put a switcher in there one day. I passed up an xmen for 250 bucks cuz I have no more room. I should have got it though.
Back then, our real enemy was quarters, or lack of anyway. Nowadays, our real enemy is time, I just don't have the time to go through the entire game in one sit. I'm still trying to finish Dungeon and Dragons but always get interrupted mid-game for one reason or another.
Agreed of these types of games being less fun with unlimited lives. I usually limit myself to $5 worth of lives as that was typically my absolute max when I played these games in the arcades of the 80's and 90's. Die Hard Arcade is the one from the genre I would love to own!
I've been meaning to ask since the converse from El Simpsons to El Ex de'Men, I take it you're a much bigger X-Men then Simpsons fan?! Awesome job on the restoration as always and I miss you Abroham Lincoln!
I love this game, I always used wolverine. I know what you mean about the excitement, now you can put as much credits as you want, so it is not challenging any more, so is a little more boring, I have this game in the ps3 and exactly the same thing happens to me. So you have to put rules when playing, maybe with 10 credits, try to beat the game. And if you die, stop there, and try another time, this makes the game much more interesting. I did this kind of thing with ninja turtles arcade, yo finish with one credit, without a using saving states or things like that, took me like 2 weeks to do, was super hard, I haven’t been able to do it again.
Your comment about having to dump quarters into the game is precisely why I am not a fan of free play arcades. Knowing you have limited lives just makes it more exciting. You have to really put in the effort to play the game,
Konami beat ‘em ups are my favorite but I own a tmnt cab a turtles in time cab and an xmen 6 player. They are so cool but at home the replay value just isn’t there. Of course I still don’t want to sell them. 😂
Like I always tell people in the home arcade community: there's a simple trick to get back the thrill of playing a beat 'em up, and that's to limit the amount of credits you allow yourself to play with. Yes, you can spam the credits until you get to the end, and that might be fun when you have guests over who haven't played one of these games in 30 years, but for when it's you solo, or when you have a dedicated gaming buddy over to play, give yourself 4 or 8 quarters max and push yourself. You'll get better that way and your games will get a new lease on life!
Family Guy is so funny I remember that episode where they had that flashback that led to a punchline oh man that was hilarious and then they did it every single episode every 5 minutes
Congrats on completing the X-Men!
Oh man, this cabinet was legendary back in the day! I remember seriously having to wait in line with my quarters in hand to play. Cheers and rock on!
The quality of this restoration/conversion is giving me an adamantium rage!
Looks AMAZING!! Congrats!!
Dude, this was my favorite arcade game as a kid. Nothing else even comes close. So cool to see the custom trim and very glad to see it in the hands of someone who will appreciate it.
I'm glad to see one of my control panels got that game back in action! And what a fun game it is!
I completely forgot to mention that 🤦🏻♂️ Thank you so much, it was very well done 👍🏻 we all appreciate what you do for the hobby 🤘🏻
Great Episode Retro Ralph!!!! GarageCade is looking good!!! Dottie!!!
Love your arcade setup. Xmen came out great!
Not sure how I missed this one. X-Men looking 🔥🔥
Dude, that garage setup looks sweet!
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
So happy you got this bad boy completed. It's a plus that you can play Turtles in Time. Both very iconic and nostalgic games that still hold up today.
Thanks brother, I hope all is well!
Very cool, super jealous 🥳
that cockpit arcade looks amazing
Working on Fusion energy because of Mr Retro Ralph🤣 Waiting on original Time Crisis pick up.
You have the ultimate collection! Hands down! Arcade tour next time I’m in AZ? I’ll buy the drinks!
The long screen one is the one I remember back in the day but yeah great looking cabinet !
Living the dream!
Looks great Ralph. that thing is popping. Keep up the great work my friend.
Awesome!
Nice dude looks great! And so cool you can play TMNT on it as well!
Hahahaha I love the doggies and the colossus scream!!! Pro tip Storm is the best character in the game because she has a longer hit reach detection with her baton. I love the way this cab came out it looks incredible bravo bravo 👏
I just picked up two two broken arcades, a double dragon and a heavy barrel for $420. Your restore videos are always inspiring to me!
Thanks man, I love hearing that. We need as many people as we can to help keep the hobby alive. Also, I love knowing that the machines will have a 2nd chance. You rock brother!
I've actually never seen a 6 player x-men thats awesome! The cab looks sick! love the yellow t-molding 👍
Cole, next time I’m in AZ the 3 of us should go find a 6 player X-Men!
Starfighters arcade had one as you enter
Dude your garage is looking awesome!
Thanks brother, I appreciate that! I hope all is well man!
Great work as always Ralph! When I grow up...I want to be like Retro Ralph!!!
You guys did a great job on this! Very impressive addition to the garagecade.
Thanks bud, I appreciate you watching. Arcade911 FOREVER!

One of my Favorite Beat em ups. But you know me! Going for the Rare ones now ;)
This is what I love to see man
Yellow T molding is great! Way better than the original in my opinion.
Badass 👍👍
I'm waiting for you to deliver this to my house...lol it looks great man
Thanks bro, I’m headed your way 😉
x-men is THE game for me. love it. the only thing i would want now is a 4 player gauntlet cab
man has too many games something i need to do is get more such a beautiful collection keep up the good work
@4:40 you definitely need some arcade like carpet, preferably with neon colors that reflect in a darklight, and then youdd also need some dark lighting of course.

awesome job looks great - Arcade Pickers :) Cory

I like blooper prone RR. Nice job Ralph, Sinistar is so fucking rad. They didn't bark because they took are in awe of the X-Men majesty.
Great job brother it looks great!
Dude such a good call on that stranger things. It's exploding in value these days

design suggestions, like bowling alley style or movie theater style carpeting, black out the walls with black paint and have black light
Congrats Ralph!! It looks awesome! I went to the bank a while back and got a roll of quarters. I only play using them because you are spot on about what that offers when you play! Did I see correctly, you have 2 SMASH TV cabs??

I got a TMNT myself but I just regret not picking up a X-Men just because of the 3 button setup and stereo sound. Such a great game.
In the next episode .. Ralph is starting an arcade ... and he invited me to come check it out? 🤪
You know it my wicked friend! 🤘🏻
Ha, I don't care about that cabinet but the video was still pretty fun. Digging the magenta garagecade lighting. So jealous that you have the Stranger Things pinball (and space for it).
I love this game… just need a pcb to carry mine over the finish line. Enjoy!!!

The coolest part of the Xmen Arcade was the dual tv screen
Nooooo not the original Simpsons! I’m on the hunt for an X-Men myself. Looks good buddy
How do you add the switch to go to a different arcade game?
For the "beat-em-up-coin-muncher" games I find the credit challenges to be the best way to get the excitement back. Challenge yourself to beat the game on say 30 credits. Then try less and less. I'm down to 2 credits on TMNT now after starting at 50. Just one more push for the 1CC.
I LIIIIVE! I AM SINISTAR!
do you have 2 smash tvs? 1 in the garage and 1 in the VIP room?
I do currently but I’m contemplating selling the one in the garage. 🤔
Damn that's pretty!
Tron poster!!!!!!

the roar is/was a magfest tradition. look it up. an entire hotel just yelling the roar

X-Men, is the screen green gun a bit high or just the camera doing this ? .....
I love this game, I always used wolverine.

I put sooo much money in to narc as a kid, remember winners dont use drugs 😅
I don't need a 4 player X-Men. I got a Bucky O'Hare
Konami beat ‘em ups are my favorite but I own a tmnt cab a turtles in time cab and an xmen 6 player. They are so cool but at home the replay value just isn’t there. Of course I still don’t want to sell them. 😂

🤣🤣🤣 Love Family Guy! I’m glad you caught the reference.
Wow it's a Russian dog?
I’m not really sure what it is, it’s just the voice my wife and I came up with for her. Haha 😂
The only problem with X-Men is that Simpsons is better game.
Yeah but... but. . . shit alright. yeah.
