ATTEMPT TO BLOW-UP MARGATE PIER - COLOUR

Storms along the South-East coast have taken their toll on its Piers. At Herne Bay a large middle section of the Pier has been washed away. Margate Pier has suffered the same fate and it was decided to remove the end section with explosives. The charges were detonated, but the firm foundations of the Pier refused to move and it still stands.

Helped rewire that pier. Mr brother and I used the Steam Train to pull a 4 core steel armoured supply cable up the pier to the switch room on the pier head.
