This was such a good episode… so much good content. So many good things were said and I’m glad Nick is starting to see Monica’s side.
I don’t like how Nick diminished the deep ongoing effect that girls’ parents had on her even as an adult. She doesn’t have to work with her parents. Her parents failed her. It’s not her fault. She can’t control her parents actions but she can sever the source of new pains. He talks about happy mediums but is very all or nothing with the amount of contact the parents get by calling the restrictive visits “bread crumbing”. Trying to make her feel guilty for her choice smh
I don’t think he diminished it, I just think that after she kept saying like “well I just feel like it’s giving up on them…” he was giving her another option. Which was if she isn’t willing to “give up” on the relationship then she needs to come to terms with the fact that she’s always going to have to be the bigger person. If she wants some kind of relationship she can’t EXPECT them to come her way or change at the end of the day.
I hated how he said “you’re the adult in the relationship and they are the kids”. Her parents NEED to take accountability for the hurt they’ve cause. The fact they never responded to the letter says it all. They don’t think they did anything wrong and her feelings are not important to them.
@@tesstrainor3572 but the reality is they may not…and you can’t FORCE them to. So at some point either you are okay with cutting off that relationship due to the fact that they’ll never take accountability, or you have to accept that they will never take accountability and be okay with the relationship for what it is and just lower your expectations in regards to what you expect out of them.
@@brittanycampbell4507 can’t disagree with anything you’re saying but Nick was pushing her to repair the relationship. I think she should stand firm and if they want a relationship with her they need to do the work. Unfortunately, they probably never will.
And she already said that she reached out to them with the help of her therapist and they did not respond so why does she have to continuously kiss their ass and speak to them when she’s already tried and invites them to events still????

No, it’s sadly the norm for a lot of children with narcissistic parents. The issue in my opinion is growing up in Utah surrounded by idealism and deep rooted self repression. The other women are used to faking it, we know their lives aren’t pretty Monica is brave enough to display that.

When Nick said that parenthood “gives you an immediate sense of a purpose that you otherwise don’t have” is a very privileged stance to take.
There’s a lot of people that are single and want to be married and have children but haven’t had the opportunity yet. There’s people that are married and can’t have children because of infertility or other health issues. There’s also people that simply don’t want to have children.
Everyone’s lives have meaning and a sense of purpose with or without children. Children are a blessing and a family is something that I hope I’m able to have one day, but it doesn’t mean that my life doesn’t have purpose without it.
I think he would mean it’s not the only purpose but it is a purpose…
is he wrong tho? You have a whole human that you have to care for. You can find other purposes in life without kids sure thats a given but when you have a whole life in your hands that your responsible for its something you wouldnt know unless youre doing it. Seriously. It was painful to watch every single scene with her kids, and see how mature her oldest one is, that she’s the one in control & having to parent her own mother, because Monica is just an intentional agent of chaos and nonstop acts like an entitled, bratty teenager.
She even does that juvenile, mocking voice change thing whenever she’s talking about someone she doesn’t like, like she’s 10. So embarrassing.😳
I felt for her regarding her toxic relationship with her mother, because I KNOW That Mother all too well…but I CHOSE to move through the world differently, and she’s doing the same things her mother did, not all of it, but the way she’s regularly choosing to behave and how she interacts with the people around her are absolutely already negatively impacting them and informing their own future life choices - though, for their sake, I hope they’re strong enough to realize that it’s okay to say “you’re my mother & I love you very much, but I don’t like it when you say or do this, it’s really disappointing, and I’m not going to listen to you talk about this kind of stuff anymore”. Realizing you’re doing something that your child is genuinely disappointed in you about is very sobering for most people, and I could maybe see that happening here, eventually. But that onus shouldn’t be on the child, to get their parent to grow up. Stop picking juvenile fights and spreading rumors about other (much better functioning) families, and just, generally, stop acting like you’re still in high school.

I only watched this for Monica , first time watching Nick. Really don’t like the way he talks like he’s better than everyone else. He needs to remember the bachelor is not shown everywhere so it’s giving a random man who thinks he’s above the next
Nick was so annoying in this interview, he was so determined to be "right" about his initial opinion of Monica and he just wasn't. Add in the smart arse sarcastic comments and he just comes across as a dick. Monica on the other hand was open, honest and genuine, she handled herself well.

We have every option to push back and be honest with our parents now, i honestly feel like my dad respecting my boundaries & showing up for my daughter the way he does is his apology for how he showed up for me as a child. We still go back & forth about it but he’s definitely become more open & willing to grow

I appreciate you being open minded enough to listen to her. She seems very honest and genuine to me, Monica is what so many of us have been waiting for on reality television and they took it from her. I think it was a productive conversation between the two of you specifically! I was worried you’d shut her down the entire time. You made great points, but I also understand where she’s coming from because it wasn’t a secret. This was better than I thought and I’d been waiting for someone to interview her on a podcast!! WE LOVE YOU MONICA. She deserves to be back on tv-I can relate to her so fucking much in how much hypocrisy is just spilling out all over the place. Been a fan of the pod for awhile. Makes me a little sad that Nick doesn’t understand gentle parenting. It’s not the same as permissive parenting. It’s validating your kids feelings and meeting them where they are. There are still consequences for actions, but they’re not irrational or out of anger/frustration from the parent. He really should look into having someone on the show that discusses different parenting styles, so he can see why the called chooses to parent that way, because as a child she was constantly put down, made to feel less than, and had a lot of trauma induced into her childhood.

I'm often surprised by Nick's spot on advise - your thoughts and suggestions to the gal with the parents blah blah blah - such good advise. The only person you can control is yourself. They are who they are and stop expecting them to be any different. I don't think "in their 50's" is old since I'm 60 LOL but parents all make mistakes. Mine did, I have, everyone will. We've all had childhood trauma - we called it growing up for my day. Stop expecting life to be sunshine and butterflies - just do your best.

Nick, Tyler & Erin... I write that in this order cuz I am commenting on this podcast as a fan, had no idea who Tyler was until this episode, so that's why I wrote his name second and Erin last because, lets be honest... we save the best for last!! I just watched Season 2 of SF cuz my life has been chaos with my 15 year old!! I have avoided spoilers for this show, which was difficult, paused and fast forward if a show/podcast spoke about the season!!
But CONGRATS CONGRATS CONGRATS to you all... This season was about finding those that doubt themselves, almost quit, find strength but come out as champs at the end. After watching the show... after Nick saw Natalie's video, that was all he needed, it gave him the push he was looking for, it's ok to need validation from the people you love... he thought he needed it in the SF Ops Team, but all it took was love from home!! Congrats on the baby, on the show and in life!!

I was severely abused by my father my entire adolescence and was able to pursue legal justice against him, but as much as I admire so much about Nick, it really is nobody's place to not only judge a decision that vast majority of people had no other choice in (especially a poster child for the ideal family - I wish I grew up in a family like Nick's!), to simplify such a complex matter down to "millennials blaming their parents"... if someone has that opinion, it's a clear indicator they aren't privy to the entire story.

It’s all relative so I can’t get mad about it. We have a 1200 sq ft house and raised two boys in it with only one bathroom. Our son and his family stay with us when he comes home to visit which means we have 5 adults and 1 toddler in our little house. It will be paid off soon so we will live here forever.
