The Hispanic Heritage Awards were established by The White House in 1987 to commemorate the creation of Hispanic Heritage Month in America. The Hispanic Heritage Awards are considered among the “highest honor for Latinos by Latinos” and recognize notable Latinos who have made a positive impact on America, and the world, in various fields.
This year the Hispanic Heritage Award Legend Award was awarded to Angelica Maria.
Angelica Maria (born Angelica Maria Harman Ortiz in New Orleans, LA) was the only daughter of musician Arnie Hartman and Angelica Ortiz. She traveled frequently as a child because of her father's musical career. She began her own career at ten when she appeared in the movie Mala Semilla with Pedro Infante's backing band, Perla de Occidente. She recorded her first album at the age of 17 and in 1960 she was in her first soap opera, eventually going on to appear in more than a dozen, including Cartas de Amor and El Callejón del Beso.
Her first big hit came in the mid-'60s with "Eddie, Eddie." That song was a Spanish-language rock song, but by the '70s she became known for her ranchera ballads, including "Tú Sigues Siendo el Mismo." Aside from her recording career, she also found time to work in television, theater, and to appear in more than 60 films.
She's a U.S. citizen by birth, holding dual citizenship, Mexican and American. Her father was an American musician, her mother, a Mexican entrepreneur.

Que bueno 👍 que le dieron ese premio y si habla más o menos el inglés no es porqué haya nacido en EEUU, ANGÉLICA MARIA desde pequeña en la escuela estando en México aprendió el inglés y Francés sabe hablar español porqué vivió toda su vida en México y los otros dos idiomas los aprendió desde niña en la escuela, eso le inculcó también a su hija y esta a su ves a sus hijos Angélica Maria siempre ha sabido hablar en inglés, pero cómo ahora vive en EEUU TIENE QUE HABLAR MAS EN ESE IDIOMA, pero ella se siente más bien 👍 hablando español y más porqué ella ama MÉXICO su país. Todos mis trabajos y mis logros son para México porqué gracias a él soy lo que soy. Lo ha dicho en muchas entrevistas

Why can't any of the narrators/announcers say those Latino names with a native accent? These are the Hispanic Heritage Awards after all. Get some people that can actually speak Spanish for an event like this.

Es orgullo de Mexico pero nacio en Estados Unidos y paso muchos años aqui. Y uso esa ciudadania para viajar y ayudar a su família. México la adopto que bueno

She is half American and Mexican. Her dad is Jewish I think last name is Hartman.
She's my family. And she was born here in LA. Her father was a famous actor and she has what's called duel - citizenship. Means both American and Mexican citizen

Why does wikepedia say she's american (not even mexican american) when she clearly speaks better Spanish than English??
She was only 5 years old when she moved to Mexico after her parents divorced. It seems like Wikipedia was edited because it does state now that she is American-Mexican.
