"Cynthia Erivo just ruined Wicked for me." said most of the Wicked fans recently. Her twitter rant, against a fan's genuine artistic tribute, went over like a wet fart in a church. The reason? Because she thinks everything is just about her. The rant has put a pall over the movie and many people will lose money and goodwill because of her rampant narcissism.
I have wonderful memories of sharing the books with my mother, seeing the musical with my best friend, and listening to the CD during my commute. Loved the Wizard of Oz since I first read L. Frank Baum's originals and saw Judy Garland's MGM version on tv as a child, and have seen many of the associated films/series, like Tin Man, The Wiz, Return to Oz, Oz the Great and Powerful, etc. I'm not going to see this movie, or next year's sequel, which should have been the second book "Son of a Witch" by McGuire, and not part two of Wicked because of useless filler. The vitriol from Cynthia Erivo has ruined any excitement I had for it. ☹
Agreed. I couldn't care less about Wicked but damn, it's a real shame to see a project that has the potential to make a lot of people happy (and make others a lot of money) have that potential reduced because of one person's comment.
Democratic politicans, actors, social media influencers, sx workers, games journalists, mainstream media propagandists... What do they have in common? Most of them are woke, morally bankrupt, and think they're superior to you.
And it’s stupid because it’s a character she played, not her. Love her voice but this ruined her and her movie! Hope she’s going to be happy and not blame “racism” for the low turnout in the cinema.
I've heard that Cynthia Erivo was responsible for the 'official' poster looking like it did and that's the reason she reacted so negatively to the fan edit.
This has got to be one of the most stupid things anyone has tried to connect to Errivo. Errivo grew up in Stockwell, not exactly known as a den of privilege. She grew up in a broken home as her parents divorced when she was young. And using a well known oreo as your source for any profound statements shows you have no idea what actual privilege is. And I agree that she went batshit crazy and reacted for no goddamn reason.
@@omarsyed1980 I don't think wealth was what was meant by privilege. Having your parents divorce does not doom you to a life of woe and hopelessness. Is Stockwell somehow supposed to be a ghetto? What do you mean by Oreo!? Is Sowell half black? If so does that invalidate what he says!?
It's ironic that Ariana Grande is the least "toxic" one involved here. Hollywood _really_ needs to put a muzzle on their actors because she just cost dozens, if not hundreds of people, several months worth of work and Disney millions of dollars in box office revenue. One selfish person being a narcissist and all of that hard work is diminished and for nothing.
Studios used to have that power, because actors contracted directly with the studios. Believe it or not, it’s better this way. The unions stop exploitation and every so often we get some light outrage.
the idol industry in japan keeps a leash on their talent , they still have that "mystique" about them that intrigues the fans of the thing in question, which hollywood more or less lost in the mid-2000s-early 2010s
@@kman9884 it's a double edged sword. While there are the occasional dis track and random attacks on the IP's own fanbase, we do get actors who fight for the story like Henry Cavill is efforts to stop the Witcher from being totally different from the source material loaded with Marvel humour and Jenna Ortega stopping her character of Wednesday becoming a valley girl. It's a tool to fight for a better product, or enough rope to get themselves in trouble.
You see the same thing with successful business people. They maybe brilliant at what they do but when talking on matters outside their profession they are often as clueless as anybody else who doesn't have any special knowledge or experience in the field.
Honestly, I was willing to give it a chance just out of curiosity but the moment Erivo started on her insanity I was out. Having anyone on payroll that pulls this kind of thing immediately tells me all I need to know about their hiring practices and approach to a project. That's especially true for the games industry at this point.
I would just tell people, especially Wicked fans, “Wait for this movie on streaming. That way to can harm this narcissist’s ego even more by putting her in Box Office flop and you’ll know by then if the movie stays true for the original.” Even then, I’m curious how the Wicked fans are gonna react to this and whether it will impact sales.

It is possible to post comments under multiple accounts so I wouldn't know if you are alone in that opinion. It does seem to be repeated in other comments like it is some entity with an agenda rather than any organic response.
Erivo's long been known for these kinds of things. Her first big faux pas was probably in 2017, when she freaked out over someone's innocent fancast for a potential live action remake of Disney's Hercules. She'd been fancast as one of the Muses, and she was offended at the thought someone would think she'd be in a small ensemble role. Mind, fancasts for the Muses have included big stars like Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson, so it was hardly an insult. I saw a post by someone who knew her, saying that her ego had gotten out of control after she won a Tony in 2016.
@@stormyknight1370 When you point it out, yeah; being cast one of the Muses would be a huge deal, they're the biggest and most significant supporting characters in the entire cast.
Campea of all people reacting that way is a bad sign for this movie. I mean, I'm not a Wicked fan, so I wasn't going to go anyway, but if the actress has turned off some of their actual fans, that can't be helpful. The old "any press is good press" has ceased to be true. How MUCH this will ultimately hurt the film is the only question, and time alone will answer that one.
I was a big fan of the books long before any musicals or movies. I saw the play twice, and have forgotten it. The book(s) are far better. I saw this lady open her mouth and will be skipping this. 😂 Excellent comment!

@ Man that is awesome. Please don’t take offense from my darn comment. I have issues with memory and I think the whole Wicked thing was my fault. I probably hyped it up too much in my mind and therefore was unable to create a memory. I KNOW that I enjoyed it, I just cannot remember it for the life of me. Yeah, but she’s also trying to give the wicked wood to the west micro braids, which is not a part of the wicked way to the west look shouldn’t have to be involved in this. This is Cynthia‘s mess.
Studios should hold back the actors' salaries until the release of the movie. This should motivate them to shut up and stay in line - otherwise the salary goes down.
Why? For them to start talking after the film's release and getting (over)paid? No. Personally, I want to know when I should keep my wallet close. Let them speak openly what they think about me.
Chile please, when Disney starts speaking when actors involved in their projects get attacked with hate for no reason then they can do this otherwise you can be quiet with this
Apparently, Cynthia Erivo is the type of person who believes that she is owed adulation. Putting together a poster that covers any part of her face; no matter how well intended, just won’t do. Cynthia Erivo should be worshiped, because this movie and the role she is playing in it, is actually all about her, not the character she is playing or the story the movie is going to tell. It’s all about me, me, me, me. Cynthia might add, “You should know that, you poor, mortal, peon moviegoer that you are.”
You can tell Ariana Grande has had PR training on how to respond to these things. Her response to Cynthia's unforced error was well crafted. It was a reminder of how we used to view these stars before they all hopped on Twitter and started vomiting their empty headed egos at us.
@@cormoran2303 I agree I agree and please don’t hate me for what I’m about to say but my respect for Ariana just went way way up in my respect for Cynthia. Just went way way down.

Movies are being ignored in theaters because fans feel cheated, attacked, or dismissed. My niece and her friends were all excited for this movie. 'Finally! A reason to go to the theaters!' Nope. They don't even want anything to do with it anymore.
This has been the trend for a while. When they turned the last Harry Potter book into two movies and they did well, everyone realized why make only one when you can have two. It does not always go so well as Andre mentioned the bloatware that was The Hobbit trilogy and Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning has dropped the Part One from the title as they now believe that actually harmed the movie. Wicked was great as it was, and they should have left well enough alone. TBH, the movie is probably 10 years too late to really have caught the big wave of the musical and given the original stars the chance to resume their characters. The studio should tell Erivo to shut up or else. There is language in her contract should she say or do something to harm the movie. Time to CGI her out and replace with an animated Elphelba! (kidding)
@@joes9954 Very true. I would only add that the filler they pad this out with (and the run-time for a stage performance of Wicked is exactly the length of this movie, so it's HALF filler to get it to two parts) is very self-evident, and nobody likes it.
I think my Mom might be (because she's a fan of Wizard of Oz), but I don't know if she's aware yet that it's a 'Part I' (She might not be aware of this outburst yet, either). So she may yet have to go through that loss of interest that most everyone else has gone through already.
The one time I agree with John Campea. Cynthia Erivo is a diva and a narcissist. I have seen posts on X from people that have worked with her and confirm bad vibes from her. The movie will probably be a hit but I am not interested in it. I look forward to all your reviews.

She is playing a character in a fantasy, it is not supposed to reflect the 'real her' by its nature. And the clue is in the green skin colour, not in any way her natural colour.
I doubt Im going out on a limb by saying I suspect theyll be pushing the allegory parallels alot about skin colour and stuff in this movie, so dont be shocked if some of the dialogue goes on about green lives matter too...

At this point, if I was a Hollywood movie producer, I would include a clause in all contracts that any actor or actress that I hire signs that would call for immediate termination and blacklisting from the studio if they even say, write, or tweet even one negative word toward the fans, the audience, or even the public in general. It's long overdue to teach these modern day versions of the court jester, that their words and actions have consequences.
I wonder, hypothetically, if the film poster was perhaps originally intended to be something more like the original poster for the original musical stage play... but perhaps Cynthia Erivo or someone representing her took notice of this original plan and made them change it to show her face more or something along those lines... only for someone to make that fan-edited poster that makes the film poster look more like the original poster for the original musical stage play to come out anyway? I am willing to bet that before this fiasco, Cynthia Erivo had either never seen the original play's poster or had forgotten it. Why is everyone assuming this was going to be a hit? When was the last time a Broadway -> Hollywood adaption wasn’t a trash fire? Or at best a mid tier bland disappointment. @@MidnightsEdge But does it? Everyone assumes “guaranteed hit” because the Broadway musical is beloved. But there is less synergy between those two audiences than people seem to assume. Hence why DEI not only focused on inequality, it actively ENFORCED IT!
What privilege did she have? Y’all say anything 😂
You can never overestimate Hollywood's stupidity.

Guess it was only a matter of time before everyone learned the truth about who she really is as a person.

@@joes9954 Very true. I would only add that the filler they pad this out with (and the run-time for a stage performance of Wicked is exactly the length of this movie, so it's HALF filler to get it to two parts) is very self-evident, and nobody likes it.

It takes 2 to tango, it is still the guys fault, for cheating on a wife and newborn. Ariana can be naked in front of you, if you are a real man with a wife and newborn you get out and go home.
This is why I refuse to go to movies anymore. Its not worth it.
It's certainly not worth paying $18-$20 for.
If one wants to be triggered, how about casting a black women as the "green" and "evil" character. Isn't this a too common trope??? Just stirring the pot ;)
Why is everyone assuming this was going to be a hit? When was the last time a Broadway -> Hollywood adaption wasn’t a trash fire? Or at best a mid tier bland disappointment. We do remember Cats, right? Les Mis was Le Meh. And going back to Buzby Berkeley. Movies made organically as musicals work. But remarkably few based on a stage production do for some reason.
It appeals to the same women who made Barbie a hit.
@@MidnightsEdge But does it? Everyone assumes “guaranteed hit” because the Broadway musical is beloved. But there is less synergy between those two audiences than people seem to assume. Case in point the troublesome actress. She is apparently some huge Broadway Star. Normies don’t know who she is. Nobody is buying movie tickets based on her. Maybe if they had gotten Idina Menzel? Barbie worked because Barbie is a shared multigenerational experience among women. In the way Star Wars used to be for men. Wicked? Maybe they’ve seen a RUclips video of that one song… and it was Idina (Elsa!) Menzel singing it.
Les Miserables was awesome
The Wizard of oz did great
The book was huge back in 2009. Like a lord of the rings for basic bitches.
Cynthia looks more like her character IRL than in the movie.
AG doesnt need any help getting dragged into the gutter... she already lives there.
How is there not a "shut the f**k up clause" whenever people sign on to these projects, and how the hell do actors have direct control of their own social media? It's not the 80's anymore when actors were mythical, untouchable figures, but now it's as simple as a Twitter post for you to hear every little thing they think and feel. Often tanking their own projects in process, cause now they're not mythical, they're just your average Joe on the internet, and we are free to crap on their day all we want as a collective.
Anybody else think that this Cynthia Erivo dude looks like Art the Clown from the Terrifier movies?
An exact likeness
She's an exact likeness.
I accuse her of wearing greenface.
Everyone who's ever gotten seasick is aggrieved! 😁
@@kingleech16 Kermit the frog, Master Yoda, and that green lady from Star Trek TOS are none too happy.
Cynthia Erivo - do I have to know her?
Luckily, no. She is basically the female equivalent of Jonathan Majors. Like him, Hollywood is trying to unnaturally force her onto audiences.
I remember seeing her as smeagol in LOTR. Other than that, I don’t know any other projects
Everyone thinks she's delulu, even the woke theatre girls.
that bad, huh..? Ooff...
When you make shows and movies no body wanted...
And jam them full of DIL, identity politics, woke and gay ,poofer girl bosses....
When wonder why everything bombs hard ....
Then play the victim card and blame the audience....
Disney, Marvel ,Netflix and Amazon do this all the time ....
And audiences just dont care any more
Celebrities reeeeally need to remember their roles and responsibilities. They have a JOB to do. If I said everything on my mind at work, I'd get fired. It would impact my relationships at work. They've totally forgotten that we don't care what they think. It doesn't matter. Just do your job. That's what you chose to do and you know everything you say is going to make news. Sing. Act. Remain professional. We'll all love you. No politics. No wokeness. No special causes. So sjw and such. Just shut up and sing.
This is what true privilege looks like people
honestly its a breath of fresh air just to have an actress/actor reply as gracefully and neutral as Ariana did, instead of piling on and doubling down with the activists taking over, in this day-and-age. Its sad that something that was once so normal as being thankful and appreciative of an audience or fanbase, is so rare.
I can't think what media she's been watching since 2016 to see how this kind of publicity turns out.
I will say I am a huge Wicked fan, I think I've seen the stage show about a dozen times. I had been looking forward to seeing this adaptation, but not anymore. I'm going to give the film a miss & have got tickets to the stage show instead. They appreciate, not hate, the fans there!
Why is the Wicked movie TWO PARTS?
Part 1: Elphaba snaps half of all life in the universe out of existence
Part 2: Everyone is brought back to life in an epic climactic battle for the Infinity Gauntlet
"He's the one who left his wife so I don't know why she's getting the blame for being a home wrecker." Because that's literally the definition of home wrecker.
But it doesn't make sense, and I say it as a wife who had been cheated on. Labelling the woman as a homewrecker shifts the blame from the cheating husband onto her, as if he wasn't responsible for his own actions. And it's not the other woman who has obligations towards the wife and family, it's the husband. If he doesn't fulfill those obligations, if he breaks his wedding vows, _he_ is the homewrecker!
@@craigtheng I don’t blame her I mean, if he’s the one who left her then how the hell is it her fault and by her I mean Ariana, how the hell is it? Ariana‘s fault and I’m sorry but the fact that this is coming out right after Cynthia‘s tantrum I don’t know about you guys, but that seems really suspicious because I feel like they’re trying to make Ariana look bad just so Cynthia can keep playing the victim.
@@irena4545 Because women are the gatekeepers of sex. THAT is why SHE is the homewrecker. Without giving up the poonanny, she would not have been able to hook the guy and he would have stayed with his wife. Women's refusal to take responsibility for ANYTHING has gotten completely out of hand.
The reality is, if it wasn't Arianna, it would have been someone else. So it's not her fault. It's his.
@@minilea144 exactly if he is the one who decided to step out then how the freak is it Ariana‘s fault like you said if he hadn’t picked her, he would’ve picked somebody else was at her fault. Why are they trying to pin all this on her and make her look bad, she’s got enough to deal with having to try and clean up Cynthia‘s mess and Cynthia won’t do it.
"Oh, I'm sorry, you're a pre-established fan of ** It's "ours" now! Knee before us, peons!"
- Hollyweird in a nutshell
From what I understand, this Wicked thing is popular with women, so it'll probably make money. But the actress isn't doing herself favors. If anything, people like her are encouraging a move to AI-generated video where we don't have to deal with these redundant primadonnas anymore.
I think it will make money, and still be considered a hit but I think it could have been an alltime classic adaption, instead it will be more like Oz the Great and Powerful.
It's hilarious that that not even musical fans are allowed to have fun. SMH, wtf is happening to entertainment?
DEI.
That actress would have to be one of the most breathtakingly extreme narcissists on the planet.
The Fans are insecure playing the victim can't take change !!!
Imagine being pushed into a starring role based on your skin colour and thinking that you got it because of, I don't know, talent?
She is absolutely talented. She’s played this character on Broadway multiple times because she’s one of the best singers in the country.
@@kman9884she was a token casting and now we see why she not an A lister 😂
@@kman9884 Lol.
