This song!! I cannot believe that you reviewed this song!!! I'm so very glad that you did! As you said, it is a masterpiece! This one has a special place in my memories because it is forever linked to a, let's say, uncomfortable phase of my life. Although I had a rough time, I feel somehow nostalgic whenever I hear it. Fortunately it isn't related to the song's ill-fated theme but yet, it was love related (or lack of it, from the loved one). I still vibe with the song aggressiveness and I love to sing along! As always, thank you for your wonderful work!
@Michael_Michaels Thank you for sharing your connection to it! It is amazing, indeed, how it can elicit strong emotions both in people who can relate to its themes (that of lost love, at least) and those who haven't really had experiences like that. I'm glad you enjoyed the video 🖤🤘
Bitter is such an underrated work in Cradle’s catalog… Acorched Earth Erotica, Born in a Burial Gown, All Hope in Eclipse, Dinner At Deviant’s Palace (featuring Paul Allender’s son) and of course, this. Hell of an EP, one of the first I heard from them in my early teens.
@GlobalAutophagia Oh I didn't know the reading of the prayer in Dinner at Deviant's Palace was made by Paul Allender's son! That's such a beautifully chilling song, as well as the rest of those you mentioned. Great album! Thank you for watching!
So good as always !! Thank you for doing that song, on the same EP they do a Re Recording of "Summer Dying Fast" have a listen its an awesome cradle song
I've always believed that his beloved also took her life because of how repetition is phrased in the beginning and in the end. That kinda makes the whole thing even darker. As for other songs that always impress, I think The Death of Love, Heartbreak and Seance and the whole Clarissa trilogy are in the same tier for me.
Indeed, that's very possible, the repetition can suggest now only that the speaker wants to follow her but also to emulate her. I love those songs, too!

I pace- alone
In a place for the dead
Overcome by woe
And here, I've grown
So fond of dread
That I swear it's heaven
•
Oh sweet Mary
Dressed in grief
Roll back the stone
•
With these words scrawled in Her severed hand
Tears fall like shards of glass that band
In rivers, like sinners
Swept with me to join the *DAMNED!*
•
The darkened sky
The day that laughter died
Fell swiftly into night
And stayed within Her sight
*STARING AT THE KNIFE!*
Oh, God, how easy now to sacri-FICE!
MY LIFE, to have Her with me
•
So farewell to distant thunder
Those inept stars I've worshipped under
*FALL FARTHER, THEIR FATHER*
*LIES IN WAIT IN FLAMES BELOW*
Whilst my love, a blood-red flower
Calls to me from Verdant Bowers
•
*GRAVESIDE, I CRY*
*PLEASE SAVE ME FROM THIS*
*HELL, I KNOW!*
•
The darkened sky
The day that laughter died
Fell swiftly into night
And stayed within Her sight
*STARING AT THE KNIFE!*
Oh, God, how easy now to sacri-FICE
MY LIFE, to have Her with me
·
*_(To go)_*
·
An eye for an eye, as espied in the *BIBLE*
My faith is lost to the burning of *IDOL*
One less cross to press upon the *SURVIVAL*
Of this lorded agony
•
AND I, much as I have tried
To bury Her from mind
Fate's tourniquet was tied when She died
Still sense Her presence so *DIVINE*
Lithe arms about my throat
Like pining swans entwined
Footfalls at nightfall close to *MINE!*
~
Suicide is a tried and tested formula for release...
~
I snatch Her whisper like the wind through cedars
See Her face in every natural feature
Midst Her mists and sleepy hollows of fever
With glee deceiving ME!
~
Suicide is a tried and tested formula for release...
~
I hear Her voice from where the grave *DEFIES HER!*
Siren song to sing along, *NO FINER!*
Suicide note, harmonised in *HER-MINOR!*
Strike a chord with *MISERY*
•
No light nor reef
No unsinkable of romance keeps me
Safely from the stormy seas
Now drowning, resounding
Death knells pound my dreams
Unthinkable to dredge through this
Listless and lonely winter
·
*_(Freeze)_*
·
A darkened sky
This day hereafter dies
Falls swiftly into night
And stays within my sight
*STARING AT THE KNIFE!*
*OH, GOD, WHAT EASE IT WAS TO SACRIFICE*
*MY LIFE, TO HAVE HER WITH ME!*
•
*NO MORE A VICTIM OF CRUSADE*
*WHERE SOULS ARE STRUNG FROM MORAL PALISADES!*
I slit my wrists and quickly slip away
•
I journey now on jewelled sands
Beneath a moon to Summerland
To grace Her lips with contraband
*THE BLAZE ONCE IN MY VEINS!*
*THE BLAZE ONCE IN MY VEINS!!*
*THE BLAZE ONCE IN MY VEINS!!!*
Anathema, "one last goodbye" kill me everytime!
A masterpiece track from a masterpiece album.
Another beautiful video of one of my favorite songs
@@reign2578 Thank you!!
"Yours Immortaly", "Heartbreak And Seance", "Lustmord And Wargasm", "Lilith Immaculate". Just a few songs that evoke tears.

That's interesting! That song is very atmospheric and evocative, indeed!

P.s. this, Bathory Aria, Deflowering the Maidenhead..., and Suffer Our Dominion are probably tied for my fav CoF songs...
Great choices! I need to listen to Suffer Our Dominion some more, I haven't listened to this album that much (although I love its themes).
Thanks for what you are doing !

"S_icide notes, harmonized in a minor, strike a chord with misery," is my favourite line... That is a bar!!
I don’t think anyone takes any Cradle songs, a theatre performance, is to be taken seriously… If you do that, you’ve much deeper issues than a song…
