years ago i used to write down at the END of the day, the things i had done. not like a journal, but more a list: laundry, dishes, cooked, etc; this made me feel that at least SOMETHING got done. when i was very little my grandmother used to start our "chore list" with WAKE UP so that we could start the day feeling good about ✅the list. i like that Anna wants us to consider our STRENGTHS not our weakness.

I do this too! I started when I was feeling so overwhelmed with tasks that I felt totally useless. I started making a list that combined both all the little (and big!) things I accomplished, as well as all the good things that happened, like a gratitude list.

On rigidity, because it might amuse you, my biology class taught me about sclerids, a type of cell that grows in stalks and trunks. Its job is to become rigid, stop taking in food, and die to add to the structure of the plant. Thank you so much for all you share with us!

Thank you for this video. I love setting small goals and to challenge myself, in small steps. I try to make sure not to set myself up for failure by making the goals unrealistic. For 2024 I decided to focus on my health. Without setting any clear rules how I would do this, I decided that I 1) wanted to be mindful of what I eat and 2) remember to go to the gym, and not let a week pass without going at least once. I'm really happy how this turned out because focusing on my health lead to everything else in my life becoming easier, and my energy and happiness increased quite a lot as well. I didn't have to do anything drastic - it was mostly about turning off the autopilot when choosing what to eat (remembering to generally choose more healthy options than unhealthy ones when preparing meals for myself) and making a habit of going to the gym (I don't even sweat that much, I just try to be consistent and do something instead of nothing). For 2025 I want to keep being consistent with the healthy habits I built this year, and adding one new focus: To remember to enjoy life, be playful and have fun, also on days when there is much to do and maybe some stress.

Привет, Ана! 😊 For the last couple of years I have thought of intentions rather than goals. The difference is subtle but - for me - huge. It has allowed me to be more flexible and avoid the feelings of pressure, disappointment and guilt I inevitably experienced with goals. With an intention it doesn't matter too much whether you follow it or life gets in the way, and you can always pick it up again guilt free. It has also allowed me to see the broader picture and identify what's truly important to me rather than focusing on a specific goal that I probably wouldn't meet anyway, because I am rubbish at that 😅 I don't know if this makes sense, but I think in our world there is so much pressure to keep achieving this and that and the next thing that it makes us miserable. Life is meant to be savoured, appreciated and enjoyed as much as possible, not spent beating ourselves up because we are failing to live up to some arbirtary standard.

Thanks for another beautiful video. It's so validating to hear that somebody else doesn't like setting goals and feels frustrated and intimidated by them! I usually set directions, not goals, and try to keep moving. Have a good day!

Well said as usual. The world is so unstable that setting long term goals seems particularly silly. Today I listened to an interview with a famous writer who has been diagnosed with advanced cancer at a young age. She shared that her and her husband spend some time every evening reflecting on all the good things that happened. Essentially, it is practising gratitude but I was attracted to the practice of doing it together with one’s partner and keeping the focus on the previous 24 hours.

I think that the most important thing in setting and achieving goals is to get to know yourself first. You obviously are touching on this a lot in this video, so I'm just summing up in my way, but you won't stick with a goal that doesn't match your own motivations and values. And if you don't understand what exactly you are trying to the accomplish, you often set a goal that sounds good in theory but doesn't get you to your true inner goal or are actually other people's goals. Since I'm a bit of an ornery lady, I tend to set NY resolutions that are a bit absurd (learn to apply winged eyeliner! wear bigger earrings!) so that it's kind of a fun thing instead of a boring, unmotivating thing. I tend to look for ways to gently reshape my life into the improvements I truly want, no hard success/fail paradigm needed.

I always think about how folks would do the very things they are morally against, if only they had the same opportunities and circumstances as those who do. In fact I see it all the time in little ways. Such as being against land lording until you have the means to be one, or smaller ways such as being frustrated about being ghosted, but then ghosting the next person yourself.
I really see and appreciate the strength and honor for spirit and ethic it takes to only make as much money as you need, when you’ve struggled with so much adversity. That’s really seeking what’s true to your own life, and a real commitment to your spiritual health.

It is so hard to remember about this small goal - to be together, be resilient etc. I always taking that as obvious than it even do not need to ba a goal. I setting jus a big, measurable one and later i am little disappointed when i didn't reach them or reach them fully. I guess that have a lit to do with my inpatient nature, but that is something that i can work on.
Thank you for another beautiful video. 😊

I don't like formal goal setting. I had enough of that when I was working, with those wretched "SMART goals". Now I simply have a few areas I am working on slowly and gently, and if I can see progress over the weeks and months I am content. Sometimes it's enough to maintain the situation, especially as I get older and my health is not perfect these days!

I'm also doing exactly this! I don't like big overhauls in life, I like doing small tweaks and to see progress over a long timespan. I feel these things also tend to last longer and be more consistent than doing big changes.

Many years ago I set the New Year's resolution of no longer setting resolutions. Now I set goals when and as needed. I've found the harder I try to force something to happen, the less likely it is to occur.
Loved your comment about wanting to live your life, not orchestrate it. Truly it is the sum of the small moments that create the thread of happiness that runs through our lives.
If your 2025 goal is to live in the U.S., I hope you're able to live somewhere with a Russian-speaking expat community or perhaps have a job where you are able to speak your native language.
When you said you were taking French lessons, the first two thoughts that popped into my mind were (1) Did Brian join her? and (2) I wonder if they would be happier living in NE France than in the U.S.
Thank you for another authentic and thought-provoking video.
