It will go across the Congaree River, then cross onto the Norfolk Southern tracks and then veer left at the diamond. It will then go through the "ditch" and on to the old Columbia, Newberry and Laurens line. This is the old Seaboard Air Line which went across a long trestle and onto Hamlet, NC. The CN&L was a subsidiary of the Atlantic Coastline. They had a yard between Gervais and the Devine Street Bridge. Eastbound ACL's went to Sumter and then to either Florence or Charleston. After the merger (1967), the connector was built and SCL began phasing all operations to the Cayce yard. The ACL yard tracks were eventually removed. After Hurricane Hugo, the Sumter to Florence tracks were abandoned and removed due to irreperable damage. A connector was built on the lower side for Florence bound trains.
