I am going to move to Mexico (Leon). I am an older lady (Hispanic). I speak fluent Spanish and am staying in Leon for a month for a start and see how it goes. I am aware that I will have to adjust to the different way of living and culture. I am not looking for jobs there since I am set on my budget. Thank you for all the information.
That's great! I think that's the best way to move to Mexico, i.e. go a month and see how it goes. That gives you time and freedom to find the right place for you since you can always move to somewhere else in Mexico if you find you're not satisfied with the initial location. Best of luck in Leon!
Leon is a nice not expensive place like san miguel allende that is expensive, if your Mexican American try to get your dual citizenship, so you can buy a house in Mexico. I live in Uruapan,Michoacán here is cheap cause there's no expats. My prices are this but I own a type of vecindad were i rent 3 small apartments and 4 rooms, I include electric, wifi, cable and hot water for the 3 apartments, the 4 rooms is only the room and have two separate bathroom 4 people share. When my bills come in, this is what I pay, electric bill 1,000 to 1,500 pesos every two months, gas around 1,300 pesos for two tanks one for my kitchen and the other one for the water heather around the apartments and these lasted like 3 to 4 months, cable and internet i pay 580 pesos a month, water here we're I live is ones á year is about 500 pesos not all states have a year water payment some do it monthly and food if you cook you save allot, but street food is cheap to. So i spend on bills around $100.00 dollars monthly, but remember I own the place plus I get money on rents. One advice I give you don't tell people you are from out of town they always try to charge extra not a lot but still if you act local they don't mess with prices and not all people try to over charge.
the flights really aren't accurate unless you are living close to the border or in a large city in the US. they can go up to almost $1000 depending on where you live in the states
Adjust for your area. But, If you're paying $1,000 to fly anywhere, I would recommend investigating ways to find cheaper flights before deciding to move to Mexico. What I do, for example, is take a train to Chicago and fly from there for the cheapest flight. Sure, if I flew out of a tiny airport in Nowhere, Michigan the flights are gonna be outrageous, but I just don't do that, and travel to an international hub, instead. Train ticket from the middle of Michigan to ORD is like $30 and cuts the price of the flight in half to Mexico. This is just one way to budget a move to Mexico, or anywhere.
Yeah no kidding! It's crazy how much less expensive communication expenses are in other countries. It's a part of the reason living in Mexico is so cheap.
I'm unsure of some of the costs you are talking about, more towards the beginning of this video. The rest of the video became more specific. Could you please put out a list or ? of a normal best range of prices of what you are talking about? Thanks, Lee

My suggestion is to use VRBO or AirBnB for a short rental and once you are down here look around to see what you feel comfortable with and where you may want to stay for longer term. There are many beautiful and safe neighborhoods, so give yourself a chance to find the best neighborhood for yourself before committing to a long term rental.
