Thank you! It was honestly one of the best meals we’ve had in the van...actually might have been one of the best meals we’ve had period. :-). The van sure smelled good for a few days too. LOL
Deb Zurawski I did learn I should have taken the tails off the shrimp before I cooked them. It was not fun taking them off while they were hot. Maybe I’ll look for ones with no tails. My moto is everything is better with garlic 😆.
Thank you John! We appreciate your kind words and the fact that you took the time to leave us a comment. It really helps keep us motivated to keep putting them out. We appreciate you!
You are very, very welcome. The dark grey one we use is actually a foam pipe insulation strip from Lowe’s.... works like a charm and even has two-sided tape on it to help hold it to the door.
Hi Lynn, Owen, and Maggie! When we leave the van with the dogs in it, it’s with the generator running. We will be getting the new quiet ac soon. Can’t wait. Even with the generator, it’ll still be quieter than the current one! Happy travels! Hugs.
We started doing the same thing on this trip... we talk about it during one of the next episodes. We used to leave the van running and go out the back door but realized that if someone broke in they could just drive off... with our house and little girl. So now we start the generator and Maggie waits patiently, usually in the front seat. We wish we had the quiet A/C too... a quiet generator would be pretty nice too. :-) Hugs!
VAN TREKKING lifestyle Yes, I agree - if someone took off with the van that’s one thing, but if something happened with Maggie (or our dogs) the devastation would be beyond! The generator sort of helps in one way because my dogs bark at everything. The noise helps deter that and muffles their barking. Someone who sees or hears my dogs wouldn’t realize they are fine with the generator and AC running (non- RV people who think they are “saving” them) and may try to break in to “save” the dogs. So to me, the generator is okay! Glad you’re figuring out how to keep Maggie safe! She’s such a sweetie. I can’t believe she just lays there and lets Lynn groom her. It’s so fun to watch. The shrimp meal looked great too. Yum! I will share that we added a Dometic electric cooler, the smallest one (I think it’s the 28) which sits at the foot of the passenger bed, and it serves as a freezer for us. We have to cook human food for our dogs (kidney and bladder disease) and we needed more freezer space. It’s working great! I’m thinking of actually removing the freezer from the fridge to give us more fridge space... We will have to shop and cook less this way. Hope you’re on your way to Alaska and having lots of fun! Hugs!
When you become 62 you can buy a lifetime national Park pass for$20. The price will go up to$80 in August. You can buy a one year pass for cheap too. Being a senior has some perks.
Yes I know! I kind of can’t wait but kind of don’t want it to get here any sooner than it has to. We had to buy our NP pass twice this year because I lost my wallet. Even still, it’s still a great bargain at $80x2. But $80 for life happens the next time we have to renew it. Thanks for making sure we knew! There are lots of perks to being older... can’t remember what they are right now but I’ve been told there are. LOL
Great video! yall are soooo happy. Loved the beach, the shrimp recipe idea (I will ahve cynthia make this soon ), and the wright brothers museum. way too much fun. thank you!
The shrimp tacos are a keeper. Walmart has two store brands that we used for this. Boom-Boom sauce and Mango-Pineapple Salsa... I’m sure there are other brands of it but we found it there and both make this perfect. See you guys soon we hope. We are one week away from being Great North Bound!
I'd also like to know what setting you use with the fridge mod? You two travel at the same pace I do in my 59k. I especially appreciate your low key approach to van life and your pleasant voices. Thank you!
Glad it helps. We read about this one and this was the first trip we took with the noodle in place. Worked flawlessly. We keep our fridge around 1/2 way. Hard to tell the exact number. If it’s not cold enough we bump it up to around 6 but that’s usually the highest setting we use.
Thank you! At some point in life it becomes a journey to just stay low key about as much as possible. About the fridge: Glad it helps. We read about this one and this was the first trip we took with the noodle in place. Worked flawlessly. We keep our fridge around 1/2 way. Hard to tell the exact number. If it’s not cold enough we bump it up to around 6 but that’s usually the highest setting we use.
I so appreciate the time and effort you take to make each one of your videos. Thank you so much. We are definitely going to make the Outerbanks one of our future stops. I haven’t been there since I was in high school. Let’s just say that was quite a while ago. ;-) safe travels and as always smiles on a Sunday.
Thank you! That means a lot to us. The OBX left us scratching our heads wondering why we haven’t been a lot more... it’s just 5-6 hours away from our home. Awesome place for sure. BTW, nothing wrong with it being a while since you were there... experience will help you enjoy it even more.
Cheers! Yes, Maggie is super trusting about everything with us. She’ll just lie there and let us trim her hair and even around her eyes... very, very trusting.
Thank you Dean! She says Thank You!... we do too! She is the coolest dog for sure. It’s like she knows we rescued her and gave her a home and she’s always the way you guys see her in the videos. Thanks for watching and commenting. Means a lot.
Yes, she’s got the I’m really worried pose down pat. She trusts us completely. That was her just laying there while getting the hairs around her eyes trimmed. Most dogs get a little nervous about that... I know I would.
We're curious to know whether you've done a mod to change out the hinge on your bathroom sink. Our sink door has failed due to the painted hinge rusting and rivets popping. W One fellow owner shortened the length of wire on the left side to assist in drainage and take some of the strain off the door. He replaced his broken hinge with a stainless hinge from Home Depot.
Good morning Tracey. Ours is rusting and I’m betting it will fail one day soon. We have not done that mod yet. We recently started brushing teeth in the kitchen sink since the water is filtered so we don’t use that sink too often now. Maybe that will delay having to do something. Thanks for watching out for us. The rust does look terrible now that you got me to look at it again. LOL
BTW, Lynn says I’m wrong. :-). Turns out this sparked a discussion and she thinks we should use the sink in the bathroom after all. Too much of a hassle to get the kitchen sink clean and ready to travel if we use that one. Live and learn. :-)
:) Sorry to add another to do to your list:) Our thinking is the same about cleanup and we filter our water as we're filling with the Camco 40013 TastePURE KDF/Carbon Water Filter. We got ours from the dealer but I just checked and Amazon.ca has it. I should say that he shortened the wire by about 1 1/2 in and he sliced the head off the broken rivets to remove them. We think he must have still had to remove that portion or how would you get the screwdriver in to install the screws. I'm afraid it's a bigger job than we are up for. Also, the stainless hinge is available at US Home Depot but not in Canada. Everbilt 12" continuous hinge with 1 1/2 opening.
Forgot to add: Love the garlic added to the shrimp! Yum!

Thank you, thank you thank you about the pool noodle tip! I racked my brains trying to think what to use! Glad you're having fun!

The freezer is a great idea.

Thank you! We loved being at NC’s OBX for sure.

Wings and Wheels Alaska if you make the shrimp make sure you take the tails off before cooking or use the ones with no tails. Thanks for watching.
VAN TREKKING lifestyle I can’t wait to see your journey!
Lynn Poteat we will absolutely try them. Always looking for food ideas :)
That’s a great tip for the fridge! Ours freezes all the time. What setting do you leave the fridge on now.
I'd also like to know what setting you use with the fridge mod?

Love your videos and thank you for taking us a long for the ride. I was glad to see you used your noodle to fix the fridge LOL :)
Thank you for always riding along! I guy can make use of lots of things when you put your mind to it. :-)
Great video guys. Maggie is so trusting laying there with her belly exposed. Safe travels. Cheers!!!
Cheers! Yes, Maggie is super trusting about everything with us. She’ll just lie there and let us trim her hair and even around her eyes... very, very trusting.
Another great video! Maggie is one cool pup dog!

Love Maggie’s haircut pose🐶! Looks really stressed as Lynn is snipping away. lmao.
