@@lancethrustworthy They use different projectiles and their names are different. Slingshot - Sling - Different names. You can’t easily use a rock in a slingshot because you risk damage to the elastic band. Slingshots use marbles or ball bearings (round projectiles). A sling uses rocks or an oblong lead pellet.

Slingshots are toys, slings are weapons. The sling is just two strips of leather connected to a leather pouch containing a stone. The slinger held the ends of both strips and whirled the stone over his head, then released one of the strips at exactly the right time to hurl the stone at the target. Expert slingers could hit birds in flight, and the stone hit with the force of a 45-caliber bullet.

On the Gladius, the Legionairs would carry them on the right side, and the Centurions would carry them on the left side. In close formation it was advantageous to have the sword right so it could not entangle in the shield, or hit the man to the left with the scabbard while you tried a cross body draw. This was also handy if you the enemy pressed against your shield, leaving you no room to draw it easily. As its a short sword, drawing it from the right is no problem.

I bought a leather sling at a sci-fi convention like the one at 17:05 and got pretty darned good with it! I could hit the target (tree trunk) from a good distance away even. Thought I could carry something like it if I ever got caught out in the wild, for nailing squirrels and rabbits. Lost it some time later, sadly enough, but I'd love to find one again and re-learn my technique.

Yes, but i wonder how future historians are going to react to finding that in that the most lethal weapon of OUR time was the Tweet. It rigged the election for Trump in 2016 and opened the door for the acceptance of outright criminals in government. Finally culminating in the open purchasing of our Supreme court and the end of both our constitution and the Rule of Law. The loss of SCOTUS was the COUP DE GRAS for Democracy. With Trump we will have the fall of the greatest military in the history of the world, without a single open battle or a shot fired. How's THAT for a historical statistic?
All due to mans inability to understand the threat of computer generated, machine gun propaganda the internet would allow. Or its ability to bend weak minds. They STILL haven't even begun to have a weapon to counter it, because even with the fall of democracy in the US they STILL haven't realized its power. Computer programs used as machine guns that NEVER run out of bullets or stop firing, capable of bending minds and turning people against their own country and even their own FAMILIES.. a horrible weapon if their ever was one and I have long wondered if they will ever come up with a defense against it, or having taking our government they will just make sure THEY are the only ones allowed to USE the weapon and our defeated democracy (and all the ones that fall BECAUSE the USA switched sides) will remain Trump/Putin slaves forever. sounds ridiculous but the most horrible accidents in history always involved things NOBODY appreciated the threat from. Its a brand new world and I'm actually pretty happy that I'm 71 not 21 right now. at least i got to live in a time where freemen didn't live in fear 24/7. For 6 years I''ve watched the rule of law and our constitution crumble. I'm ready for it to be OVER. Its going to be sad to be a refugee but better than than a slave and at least i wont be a poor one..

I can't see the arumi as being practical in battle. First of all it would take years to master. Second, it would probably prove dangerous to use around allies. You'd be just as likely to injure soldiers on your own side as those on the enemy side. This would force users to operate fairly far apart from one another leaving them at a disadvantage in the close combat typical of warfare up until the modern era.

8:30 Sorry-- can't let that stand either... Shortbows have a far better rate of fire. It's the equivalent of a carabine (for some Robin Hoods maybe even a sniper).

Can anyone show ANY evidence about URUMI to be effective? it is "TOLD" able to kill a horse in one blow, butI've never seen ANY video this weapon cut anything into half, not even a pineapple.
So, I regularly see it on such lists, but I must say it is a weirdo weapon with urban legend efficiency. Prove it's efficiency!

its a weapon that was used in the in the southern parts of India. which is one of the last weapons to be mastered in kalaripayattu. this particular martial art was battle proven during that times the martial art still exists but the teachings have be lost in time because of the foreign invasions. but unfortunately i don't think there is anyone who can wield it to the maximum efficiency so it will be hard to find a video now but maybe there is someone out there

@@abishekjogy2226 I saw som masters practicing with that weapon. Unfortunately even the leaves left unharmed. I am really curious. I know I can cur my finger with even a paper, and especilly with a sharp metal, but the chaotically moving long thin blade seems to be uncontrollable at that level to make any harm. I mean,, it CAN do such cut, but it looks to be more of a luck than mastery, it is so sensitive to the angle it reaches the surface

Bad on Polybolus and slingshots which are modern and different from slings. Great on Atl-atl illustrations. You need better researchers.

gladius is short sword and it was 60cmm to 70cm, 90cm is a long sword our a spata.
only the macedonians used the sarissa.
you have a greek falcata identified as a kopesh, they are not the same not even similar.
    that thing is a trebuchet.
that is not a greek catapult, a greek catapult was a balista, that design is an hollywood interpretation of a roman second centurty design called an onager, that is specificaly a medival based as romans didn't use a boal but a sling.
the polibolos was heron of alexandria, the balista was dionisios.
do better research next time, this was embaracing.

I highly doubt the effectiveness of some of these weapons, especially the Urumi, the Bagh Nakh and, above all, the Archimedes Death Ray😅
(Mythbusters pretty muched proved that the Death Ray doesn't work - not even close🤣)

Mythbusters proved that a bunch of people holding mirrors are not very effective at burning ships. The device Archimdes invented looked more like a parabolic antena with a lens instead of a TV receiver.

And it did say MIT created a device that did what was described. They used 127 mirrors arranged in a parabola. They did it in 2005. And who believes everything on mythbusters as gospel?

Isn't it time to finally join the international world where the metric system is simply used? A launch has gone wrong before because they did not take into account the fact that some people continue to stick to local customs and sizes. Like this video, which is clearly meant to be serious, but then all that research and prep work is ruined because they hired some elderly carpenter to tell them how big those things were.
Of course it is unclear which measuring system the good man uses because one person's feet are not the same as those of another.
It may well be that you grew up with those old, run-down friends, I grew up when they were still inventing the computer and mobile phones did not yet exist. But wouldn't it be absurd to still communicate with the fanfare?
But that's really what you're doing...apparently afraid of what wasn't even the future a hundred years ago.
Grow up and learn what the metric system means... a new world will open up for you.

What is this crap? He talks about a sling, but keeps showing a slingshot (wrist rocket). Even while he's describing a sling properly, the stock image and video is all slingshots. Not at all the same thing.
Also rhe wooden magazine wasn't changed out of the xbow, thhey werebjust continuously loaded from the top. It's hilariously stupid.
He says Balearic slingers whole the video shows an 8 year old girl playing wirh a toy slingshot.
I mean with such careless research, I'm not sure we should take anything said here seriously.
