  • The 6’4” starting point guard is playing on one of California’s top teams, Crean Lutheran, alongside numerous D1-bound players. He’s a majorly under-the-radar player but is finally getting his moment to shine. He’s already picked up Division I interest from several schools and is expected to pick up offers once his season ends.
    He’s got elite handles, quickness and strength for his age and position, all of which are transferrable to the next level.

    When I watch videos like this of high school players, I cringe. This is what’s wrong in the game today. I’m talking about the hop step and a fake. That’s the reason why a defender jumps so high to try and contest or block a shot. By rule, a step and a hop is equal to two steps and a player must immediately attempt as shot. You see this in the NBA and it’s unfair to defenses at any level.

  • @Blue-no4jt
    @Blue-no4jt 2 года назад +4

    I don’t like his handle. His dribble is way too wide and high. He needs to tighten that up a lot. Shooting form is also kind of slow to be honest. Pass accuracy is poor. Over dribbles. Not much elevation on his shot. Doesn’t seem particularly fast or athletic. But perhaps he can bulk up and finish through contact or draw fouls, something that Jeremy Lin was really good at. Few defensive clips but he’ll need to show good lateral speed and that he can stay low in his stance to get D1 offers as his arms don’t appear to be that long. Shot seems pretty mediocre.
    From the way he plays, I think it’s very very obvious he grew up in China. The style is loose / sloppy - very different from someone like Lin who grew up against real competition and was coached by real coaches. This guy’s fundamentals are straight up bad.

    • @paulhuang1694
      @paulhuang1694 2 года назад +1

      His handles aren’t that bad he just overdribbles sometimes like we see with many highschool guards that like to do fancy stuff to make a highlight. And I feel like his offensive skills are decent he can go to the basket confidently and is good at drawing fouls like you said. I also don’t know why you think it’s obvious he grew up in China, his style is very American and a lot more fluid than a lot of Asian basketball leagues I’ve seen. He plays like many elite point guards here, and I would say he’s not as quick but definitely shifty.

    • @ongodddd
      @ongodddd 2 года назад +1

      Why compare him to Lin just because hes asian you lost me after that. Way different playstyle hes not even slow he plays at a similar pace to someone like Luka kid is a smart hooper and very physical i cant really tell if u ever hooped before lol

    • @Blue-no4jt
      @Blue-no4jt 2 года назад

      @@paulhuang1694 I understand high school guards typically have loose handles, but not on-ball guards who are courting D1 offers. Case in point, Jeremy Lin, an Asian player who grew up in America had tight handles as a high schooler. He didn't get D1 offers, but he obviously should have.
      I truly believe the biggest hurdle holding back young ball players in China at the middle school and high school level is NOT lack of athleticism or size, but atrocious fundamentals and horrendous coaching. Young players in China for the longest time idolized Allen Iverson, and because they played against bad defenders, they become too accustomed to thinking they can get away with loose handles and that unconcious style of play. They think it's cool.
      But for American ball players, that style of play is ancient. Teams now value high IQ players and quick decision-making. Their ideal prospect is someone like Luka. Players who can make split-second plays and full court touch-passes (like the Ball brothers), without holding onto the ball are coveted commodities as guards. And if you're going to over-dribble, you better get a bucket out of it. For decades now, the NBA has been transitioning more to the European style, ever since James Harden told the world he models his game after Manu Ginobili, and not Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. Chinese players would be smart to do the same. But the way I see it, they are really really far behind in terms of style of play.
      Confidence isn't enough, and most players in the America are willing to put their head down and absorb contact to get a bucket. These are good things, but way too little. You're not seeing it because you're comparing this guy to other players in Asian leagues. That's the problem. From my point of view, he's got all the really obvious bad habits of ball players from Asia because of all the reasons I listed in my previous post. These things really need to change in China.

      @@ongodddd I compared him to Lin to make the distinction between nature and nurture. Some people believe that Asian ball players are bad because of genetics. Lin proved that Asian players are bad because they weren't taught properly. That's why.

    He won't get a chance unless he ends up being over 7 feet tall. Asian Americans just aren't wanted in basketball. Speaking from experience, and Jeremy Lin was the icing on the cake.

      Whenever we find ourselves stereotyping other people, we need to stop and ask what it is we are doing, and why we are doing it.
