      I think they mean.....the feeling they get from this is like what they felt like as a kid.
      Because this doesn't sound like the original which is ingrained into my memory.

      @@troywright359 You are correct. I know what the real SNES OST sounds like, but to me as a kid the OST might have sounded as grand as this because the game blew me away. I just got the same feelings I did then when listening to this.

    • @afellowamerican5767

      Completely agree. As a kid there's no difference between 8 bit and symphonic, its all as good as the rest. Not picky or elitist, just kids hearing the sound embellishing the scenes at play. Simple.

      @Pop_Shepski Год назад +5

      I still play this game even right now and they both sound just like each other. If you play SNES on modern tv or headset, you can hear everything you can hear here. Just very compressed down for obvious reasons. Which is much credit to this man that remakes them

    This actually brought me to tears.
    A Link to the past was the first Zelda game I ever played and is so very special to me.

    What I love about this, is that there aren't many extras added. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy some remakes with extras or other new instruments and such added that make it even more epic and refreshing, but this here feels like what the music would have sounded like If they had been able to compose it to this quality for the game back then. I think you can hear how much love you have for the originals, and how much love you put into remaking them.

  • @SevenDevils88
    @SevenDevils88 3 года назад +20

    Dude, I've heard COUNTLESS remasters, but you're on another level.
    You absolutely nail the principle; total respect of the original material, modern technique, perfect choice of instrumentation, you never overdo it or add unnecessary things.
    I don't know how you feel about Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger, but I seriously hope you plan on tackling these. You probably would be one of the first to be able to pull off something decent. Whatever the fuck you will do in the future anyway, I'll be psyched to check it out.

      Really? You went back as an adult and were disappointed by how the original sounded? You suddenly heard only limitations and restrictions instead of wonder and magic like you do here?

    • @davehugstrees
      @davehugstrees 3 года назад +1

      @@troywright359 The original score is a masterpiece, but clearly limited by the technology of the SNES. In this version you can hear the instrumental tracks as they are intended to be heard. Compare the harp in the intro to the 16-bit sample of a harp in the original. I mean, I like the sound of the S-SMP but let’s not have nostalgia blinders about how great real instrumental compositions sound.

    • @troywright359
      @troywright359 3 года назад

      @@davehugstrees 'intended' to be heard? No, the original soundtrack has a style to it. It's not hampered at all, which is why for Four Sword Adventures on the GB, they revisited this snes style for the soundtrack as it was heavily influenced on the snes ALTTP. They had technology to have all orchestral real life instruments, but they CHOOSE not to, and it didn't hinder them there either.
      Point being, original kicks ass, but you can prefer the knock off remakes if you like

    I like what you did with Dark Golden Land.
    I like how you added some sound effects at the start of a few various tracks, and the Cave track is nice.
    But I want to be productively critical here; most of this could have been a lot better.
    For the most part this remake isn't trying anything new; it's not trying to emphasize any emotion nor trying to bring a fresh interpretation to the original; it's just trying to be exactly like the original. Which can work, but if that's what you were going for then you'd really want to use better sound fonts. Most of the instruments sound like outdated synth, but not in a deliberate way.
    With the Goldeneye remake, the few strings and other orchestra sounds were overshadowed by guitars and distinctly electronic sounds, and in that environment the slightly synthesized sounds really worked to compliment the feel. You don't notice the quality of the sample when it's got an electric guitar playing over it, and it probably sounds better that way. But for A Link to the Past, the original was written to sound like a live orchestra, and using synth/samples that don't sound *quite* like live instruments makes it feel like it isn't quite reaching it's proper goal. The synthesized qualities become too noticeable when they are given the center stage.
    I think this soundtrack would have been better served to add a more original interpretation that would have worked better to embrace the tools you have available.
    You adjusted Dark Golden Land and a few others in way to deliver more emotion, and that was great. The Cave track used a deliberate synth sound to great effect. I would have liked to have seen more like that.

      It has a lot to do with the fact that back then, they had such simplistic "digital instruments" and only so many of them to work with. They had to _really_ get creative to make catchy melodies.
      That's why they still slap to this day. Those melodies still stand on their own, even when made with completely different "instruments."

You made it sound better than the best track in the game in my (and A LOT of gamers' opinions) and that's the track right after it (Dark Mountain Forest). You should've looped and emphasized the part at 12:39-12:45 more and possibly enhanced it if you could using whatever method that you use to do that. I know that I'm nit picking but just offering some constructive criticism.
