Yes it is a DAW. Modern trackers like Renoise has support for VST plugins. This old program did not have VST support though. Music in old video game machines such as Nintendo 8-bit, SEGA etc are made in a "tracker".

Is a Tracker the same thing as a DAW? Can you just straight up make music in these programs, or do you have to use samples?
