    Tampere and Kuopio are also very beautiful cities in the summer, I highly recommend them.

    Finland wasn't really a Swedish colony, just the Eastern part of Sweden. UNTIL that is Russia sized the area called Finland as part of the Great Northern War.
    Alaska is now part of the United States and Finland was once part of Sweden. You wouldn't call Alaska a colony.

      Interesting. My impression has been that Turku was a Swedish city in the same way that Helsinki was built up as a Russian city after having only been a Swedish outpost beforehand. Modern Finland has its own distinctive national identity that is not tied directly to Sweden, so it feels more like Ireland’s relationship to Britain. That’s what I meant by that, so it comes down to a poor choice of a word.
