I have the 3182 for almost a year now. Because this reactor is so simple it sort of lulls you into a false sense of security. I let algae grow everywhere inside and found that severly impacted peformance. Anyways i took it all out, put the the reactor in citric acid and since then its been working great. Whenever i harvest i give a quick scrub of the reactor walls as well, barely takes a couple of minutes. My only complaint is that the pump ahould have come woth a stand to reduce noise. People online have made stl files for a stand that can be 3d printed, but ideally that should have been included Lastly i run the output into a media basket with a bit of filterfloss, i find that helps catch any loose strands of cateo that break off
It's worked fine for me, no leaks and very quite. Only thing I would say is it wouldn't always spin the alge round and I couldn't really figure out why even after harvesting I'd clean it as best I could and was hit and miss if it tumbled. I upgraded my tank and have a large refugium so sold the reactor now but would recommend.
One of the better reactors i think. No spirals or wires and the algae tumbling inside the reactor is better. I dont want to pull out a long light tube everytime i clean it out. I just want to open the cap and remove chaeto.
I would like to see how the algae is changed out when it is used on an all in one tank with no sump and it has to sit below the tank. Is there water spill?
Just wondering, combining light and pump does this take two sockets up or are they both plugged into the same power source? Sockets are at a premium in my tank!
I have been wrought with nothing but problems with mine. I have had it since it came out and nothing but problems. I had it outside the sump at first. The algae eventually stopped spinning at the bottom and I constantly have to restart it. or.....It would do well and produce gas and float to the top and stop spinning. I run mine 24/7. pump is working fine, it is now in the sump , hoping it might be hose length weakling the flow but it does the same thing. There are no air bubbles coming in from the pump. I might have to run it with the top off, then it has nothing to drag on when floating to the top and it would keep spinning. Thinking about putting a timer on the light. I did find some small encrustations growing on the bottom that could stop and hold the algae but that does not explain why it has done this since day 2. Pump is clean.
won't flood with a power outage. I'd still recommend a sump for other equipment, but yes - in theory you could connect this up without any sump and it would give decent filtration
Would it suit larger systems? Being only rated for 600odd L, can guys with say 1000l tanks run these ? Or one would have to run two units on said system ?
I saw your other review on the Pacific sun reactor & it would be interesting to know your thoughts on the two different reactors! Will look out for an update video !
Absolutely zero chance tunze would release the print designs. having said that there is a lot of smart people out there prob wouldnt be hard to work out, and prob get posted by someone pretty quick.

yeah it is mostly an amazing design!
That looks really clean!
it's a tidy setup
@@ParkersReef it is indeed
Merci pour ta vidéo !!! 👍👍👍
merci
I like the sound of this as I don't like the thought of a messy refuge but I wonder would it be ok on my system 640L they say its rated up to 600L ?
Be perfect for it!
I've just purchase one of these, looking forward to seeing what results I get
keep us updated!
Alex Wilkins do you have any results to share before buying , thanks
What is it like? Is the pump quite and does it leak at the top

Totally agreed
I know this may seem like a stupid question, but could you grow pods In there? I'm assuming the flows too much for them so Definitely not? Or could?
Absolutely could! They’ll cling onto surfaces pretty darn well
first of all I just wanted to say thank you so much for replying. It’s a big help and this is awesome. Looks like I’m getting one of these for myself😎
@crowndcrusader2341 pleasure! I always try to reply to people who have taken the time to watch my videos

you'd need to remove the water lines otherwise it would siphon out :)
very good.
Thank you! Cheers!
Just wondering, combining light and pump does this take two sockets up or are they both plugged into the same power source? Sockets are at a premium in my tank!
That is a fantastic question! I’ll see if I can find out for you
It has a separate plug for both the light and the pump, so you would need to sockets
This is good to know meaning can keep flow consistent through unit. And the light on at night after display lights shut off
Would you run a Tunze algae reactor and a refugium together if you have high nutrients?
No I wouldn’t. They are directly competing against each other
Can it be used with a tank that’s an all in one?
Yeah it sure could

PS I love Tunze and have been running them since the 90's and own the very first hang on skimmer they produced.
Might have too much algae in there?
@@ParkersReef I have done every scenario, more, less, dense, spread out. Mine is for sale.
So if I have no sump I can just hook this up like a canister filter?? Any risk of flooding with power outtake?
won't flood with a power outage. I'd still recommend a sump for other equipment, but yes - in theory you could connect this up without any sump and it would give decent filtration
Thanks! Could I add pods or plankton to this almost like a refugium?

Have wondered myself. I only assume you’d have to harvest more often?
You can add a second light to it too
Parkers Reef , yeah I guess that would be it. I was just wondering more so on how effective it would be on the larger systems.
Hopefully I’ll find out soon :)

There is a bigger unit MAR 3182. It’s suppose to be out by now. I have been waiting for almost a year now.
Mine is for sale.
change of plans or don't like it anymore?

Yeah they either do release them, or people will copy them anyway 😅
no real design to it. Pump output hits the cylinder on the side at an angle thus creating spin. The same way angle injection causes skimmers to spin.
