She was so misunderstood, I’m saying that because I had no idea why she tore up the picture of the pope on SNL. Why she did it was so honorable, standing up for the sexual abuse happening within the church. She was an amazing vocalist.
I think it was a compliment that she covered it so well. Think about when Whitney covered Dolly Parton’s - I Will Always Love You. Dolly was thrilled and loved Whitney’s version, which did so much better than her own.

I have more respect for an artist that does a cover of a song and bring their own personality and interpretation to the song than someone who samples a song and call it their own creation.
Sinead always respected original songs and paid homage to them.
I bought this album when it first came out and I had such a crush on her. This'll always be the best version of this song imo. RIP

I didn’t get your reaction and you didn’t seem really focused on the video. She started crying, for real. Not even a comment on that? This was a song that Prince didn’t care about until years later Sinéad recorded it and took it to another level. She was a true original, working with hip hop artists before everyone else, wrote many amazing songs, recorded a briliant reggae album with Sly & Robbie which she payed for and released on her own label, worked with American veterans, stood her ground, spoke up against child abuse and the list goes on. You didn’t seem to really get the emotion she had put into this song - at all. In my opinion you didn’t even seem to get the artist that is the legendary Sinéad ‘O Connor. The laughing and remarks about people covering songs felt kinda rude.

That's true But Sinead was not just a singer songwriter she was first and foremost a music fan and only chose to cover songs that identified with her.

Beautiful song. She was heartbroken over splitting up with an ex and dedicated this song to him. Interestingly they got back together after she released it. ❤
That’s absolutely the wrong story 😅 her mother that was very abusive passed away just before she released this song and she says that every time she sings the songs it reminds her of her mother.
