If you tend to overwater, picture the roots in the soil. When you water the soil fills with water pushing out the oxygen. As the soil dries down much need oxygen fills the space again and the plant flourishes. Visualization really helps.

They should do fine wither way with the overall goal of keeping them close together. What I mean by that is that you don't want to plant in a straight line as that will lead to bad pollination. If you plant them in a block the pollination chances are higher leading to full corn cobs.

Sunflowers (my favourite) ~ I've had success soaking them for 12 to 24 hours. If not direct sowing, planting seed in a tall 2.5x2.5x10-15cm (1"x 1"x 4-6") seedling pots. I originally got mine from a re-gen native habitat group; tall and skinny with holding frame, also great for seedlings with vigorous tape roots

This one was particularly helpful. Last year I had pretty good results in my 9b area starting seeds outdoors (I haven't been able to figure out a way to do it in my house earlier indoors). This year, however, has been dismal.Much cooler temps coupled with too many gray days. Lots of non-germination including those dang cornflowers. Lots of stunts as well. Will take your advice & repot my stunts. I feel so far behind, but trying to make lemonade out of lemons, at least I have a long growing season!. Appreciate all your videos........many thanks!

I like your poppies! We have a strain of pink peony poppies that keeps reseeding. They started from a single small, sad flower that I didn't even notice until I saw the little seed pod. The next year there was another larger flower. Then there were several good sized flowers. They keep getting bigger and more vigorous every year. This year there's a whole patch of them in a planter. Their flower buds just popped out within the last few days, so they'll be blooming pretty soon.

I had a fungus gnat problem for the first time this spring too. And then I decimated them by happy accident! I had bought some mushroom spawn and I was intending to grow them outside but winter dragged on too long and I ended up growing them straight out of their plastic bag. I discovered that the fungus gnats were naturally attracted to the spawn like moths to a light (duh). After getting a couple of good flushes from the mushrooms, I felt like I got my money’s worth. The fungus gnats were driving me so crazy that I gave in and handed them the remaining spawn. I left the bag open for them, turned a blind eye on them for a few days (that was the hardest part) and then quickly shoved the bag into a large gallon-sized ziplock bag, zipped it up really tight and then tossed it in the trash and that was the end of it! If you have a serious fungus gnat problem that’s gotten out of hand, I highly recommend a mushroom trap crop! The cheapest grow kit you can find is probably sufficient.

I have a feeling being stubborn and "it will grow if it kills me," ideology would help with growing from seed. I've a ton of flower seeds to sow this year. Thanks for the inspiration. I have a terrible time getting cones to germinate too or they die soon after appearing. With peppers I sprout them in moist toilet paper so I can watch for germination. My poppies actually have done great this season and have thrived through transplant. I've had my fair share with germination struggles this year though, stevia and tarragon as well as some nasturtium varieties. It's been a strange germination season for me quite a few failures but I kept planting until I got at least some life.

Congrats on the channel bro! I try to grow everything from seed and have trouble germinating seeds that recommend sowing in ground. I’d like a video on why some seeds want/need to be sown in ground vs. starting in cells. Thanks for all the info you provide us!

Agree on it being worth growing from seed - there were certain asparagus varieties that I could only get seeds for, not crowns.
Yeah, I was playing the long game with those, but it was totally worth it 😁

I germinated some mouse dropping peppers & Thai peppers by soaking it in water & a pepper towel/zip loc bag, then transplanting sprouted seeds into grow cells. In home temp sits around 65-72, and it took 7 days! Hope that helps- no fancy hear mats here.

Great method and work around for when you have only a few seeds to work on!

Hello!!! So, repotted herbs from Winco. But! I kept them in the windowsill in the kitchen first. I now have several large Rosemary and Mints.

Thanks so much for incorporating my seedling question! 😊 I’ll definitely try potting them up next time as soon as they start to look yellow - and I’ll back off of the watering 😅
    Thanks Jacques!

@@jacquesinthegarden haha! Np! I’ll have to start over anyway - my neighbor accidentally sprayed pool cleaner all over my raised bed through the fence, so I’ll have to scrap everything and get the soil tested so I can start over 🥺 - so it’s actually more timely now! I get a do over

Thank you for all these videos! You’re an excellent teacher. I bought some vermiculite after watching your seed starting videos in order to increase my strawflower germination rate. I’m lucky that I can grow year round so your videos are always helpful. Thanks again from zone 12b!
