I bought the 90 set of these pastels because they were a better value. I am totally able to work with fewer colors. I have some Sennelier pastels and a harder pastel set. These fall in between the two and I love them❣
I have learned to snag a product I am pining for when you give a price alert. I purchased the Senneilair 120 soft pastels when you alerted us. I love them!
I'm using oil pastels currently and enjoy them very much. During pastel month I decided to try them.Soft pastel dust kind of keeps me reluctant to try them. Your painting is absolutely lovely Lindsay.
I've been wanting that Paris set for a LONG time now, lol. I would definitely need to start painting more to justify buying them though. Ha ha! The SoHos do look lovely as well 😍 Thanks for the great video, Lindsay. 🥰
I got these in the 90 stick set…I really like them! I took off all the wrappers. I got them to go in between my cheap square sticks which are hard, and my Mungyo, which are buttery soft… I do pastels just for fun between watercolors. Thanks Lindsay for your awesome reviews.!
Hi Lindsay. Really enjoy all your videos I think you are the best all round artist in all mediums. I don’t know of anyone else on RUclips with your talent. I have a few pastels but don’t know how to use them, I don’t know what paper to use. I still struggle with watercolour but I am slowly starting to like what I paint. Am in the process of buying a new car so have said. No more art supplies purchases! ….yikes.
Your very talented Lindsay! I’m going to try some more pastel paintings get my soft pastels out of my artsy supplies give this a try! The flower painting you shared may I paint them?…..Tyfs your beautiful paintings with us! Have a great week! 😊
I've patiently been waiting for your review of these pastels. I purchased the 120 set for $55 from Jerry's Artarama. I have no prior experience with soft pastels, but wanted to experiment with them without spending a lot of money. There were many good reviews about these pastels on Jerry's website. So far I've been very glad for my purchase. It's fun to have so many colors. Do you think there are enough darks in this set? Thanks for your review and I like your pretty sunflower bouquet in a jar!
Hullo Lindsay, I have become enamored with your videos and believe that you are a wonderful reviewer! I believe that these are medium grade and very good for beginners or for practice. I believe that they are made by Richeson and not their recipe exactly and that difference is why they are so inexpensive. Extra extenders or clay will not make your paintings non archival, but can bring the vibrancy of your colors down and create problems with mixing colors and with layering, one solution is to get better surfaces like a sanded paper or Pastelmat, I avoided soft pastels for many years because of the cost. I just don’t believe that you can do pastel painting on the cheap. If you want your paintings to stand the test of time, you must use very good supplies. I practice with watercolor paper and to get more layers of pastels I use clear gesso with pumice added if I am feeling like I might get a finished painting from my practice session. I am still learning about this new to me medium and after 2 years I have so much more to learn. You are truly inspirational and so generous with your techniques and ideas for creating quality art. Thank you.
Haha funny! You say you are not a pastel artist. I beg to differ. You have produced some beautiful art with soft pastel and oil pastel. You may not create as much realistic detail as some other pastel artists, but your art is art and I do not believe you are an reproductionist.
Went to check these pastels at Jerry's Artarama Website and saw the Soho OIL Pastels. Didnt know those existed. Have you tried them by any chance? I wonder, since these soft pastels seem so good... what about their oil counterpart?! But there are no reviews for them on RUclips!
Quick question about the Paris Set... since they are not wrapped, does the package/box or maybe the brochure, have the names of the colors in the order they are placed? Maybe that way one can swatch them in the order they came to be able to write the name and later on, refer to that and know what to order! Do u get what I mean?
I've done some research online and had trouble finding current soft pastel videos. There's a lot from 3 to 5 years ago but it seems to have dropped off. Found a couple channels but neither of them have a style I'm looking to try. Where are all the content creators going? It makes me sad.
I don't work with pastels, but I do appreciate the beautiful paintings you are able to achieve. I love the flowers in the jar! Janet 💕
Thank you!
I don’t use dry pastels often, but still enjoyed your wonderful review! Thank you so much.
These are so beautiful Lindsay! Thank you for sharing these with us! Missed ya on Sunday. Hope you are all well!💜💜💜

I've noticed that some of the colors in the 120 set are similar which is fine cuz they don't do open stock so i think the 90 set is a great variety

Yay!
This set was just on sale at Jerry’s! I got them for $70. They were $20-30 cheaper than Amazon with that sale. Love how smooth and soft they are!
So smooth!

Loved your pastels month. I bought a. Cheap set but haven’t tried them yet.

Wow! What a gorgeous painting!
Thanks!
You and your trees, lol. When I saw the thumbnail with the white trees I knew it was a Lindsay video!

Overall yes but I like adding dark tea is and purples from nupastels for cutting in darks.
Thank you Lindsay!
Don’t quote me but I think these are made by Cretacolor. They look and sound fantastic! Beautiful work and thank you for sharing!💚
Interesting because cetatacolor makes their soho pencils I think.
Thank you very much ♥️♥️.
Jack Richeson is very similar to Unison but a tad softer. If they make these, it would be great!
Thanks!
Just a awesome video,thanks Lindsay 🌹👍❤️❤️
I have been wondering about these too!!
Let’s do it !

Thanks! These are wonderful on UART sanded paper. I think they are very vibrant. I used them on my plein air painting last week.

October 10, 2022, Amazon has this for $99.99. Thanks!

I have not tried them. I wonder if anyone has reviewed them.
@@thefrugalcrafter Havent found any reviews on those. Only reviews available are from the soft pastels. Not even Jerry's Artarama has a review!
What workable fixative do you suggest I buy to use for pastels and maybe pencils and such. . .
Krylon works for me and is cheap
Whats the best way to preserve a pastel painting (soft or oil) so they dont smuge, fade, etc (and whats the best product)
The best way is to frame it under glass with spacers but until I do that I wrap it on glassine.
Right now the 90 count on Amazon is only $42.99. Which is only $.48 a stick. I couldn’t resist. 🙄
Nice deal!

With pastels what you see is what you get. I'll check the box to see if there was a chart. Input them in My boxes with My other pastels.
There are tiny numbers and a color swatch on the side if the box of Sennelier
@@thefrugalcrafter perfect!!!! Then one can check the names of those numbers on Blick and write the names on the swatches!!! Yay!!! Thanks! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Is fixative or workable fixative not a good idea anymore to cover the art?
It's totally fine to use, I do on occasion but avoid it when I can due to the smell, dry time and color shifting
I just bought this set of 90 for 59.99
On Amazon.
What surface do you use pastels on? thx!
Pastel paper or watercolor paper. Anything with texture.
I've done some research online and had trouble finding current soft pastel videos. There's a lot from 3 to 5 years ago but it seems to have dropped off. Found a couple channels but neither of them have a style I'm looking to try. Where are all the content creators going? It makes me sad.
I posted 8 pastel tutorials last month. RUclips doesn't favor tutorials so it's just not worth it for many creators I guess. It is sad.
Are the Sohos better than faber castell
I'd say they are similar. They feel less dry and they are larger around. They are different but equivalent quality.
@@thefrugalcrafter seems like the sohos are a good option.
@@thefrugalcrafter any negatives?
I ordered the set of 90 and wasn’t impressed. They seem kind of waxy , and even the harder Faber castell pastels are softer.
They are a bit waxy I guess but I love them. I've been using them on sanded paper for outdoor painting
