Before you do anything else check the tyre pressures with a proper calibrated unit ( not one at the petrol/ gas station) and at going on for 6 years old the tyres are getting harder on the tyre wall. That will reduce bounce and recovery after a pot hole. If you search the code on the tyre wall you can work out when they were actually made which might be a few years before fitted. Also what brand as you only want to do this once really and get some really good ones. Timms bmw site on yourube explains possible causes of the e32e34 100kmh/120kmh steering or braking shake. I would start with the tyres though.
Hi Lee thanks for the tip. The front wheels are not installed on the car in this video however, so it's strictly an alignment issue unrelated to weight or wheels.
The center link I got was a TRW unit from eBay. Idler arm is a new BMW part from ECS Tuning. Pitman arm I did not change yet but I probably will (genuine BMW also). The left/right tie rod assemblies are Lemforder from Rockauto.
@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec yes buddy. I replaced the upper, lower control arms, tie rods and still have a bit of a shake in the steering wheel around 100kms/hr. I also think my actual tires might be shot. They are 2016 tires and lots of tread, but I don’t know the history of them. They might be bad, I had them balanced but, I don’t know.
Thanks, I took the opportunity to clean the underside a bit when I replaced the center link. There was an old oil leak all over the oil pan. It looks like I have a bent subframe :( The pitman and idler arms are impossible to align correctly. The max deviation should be 1.5mm according to BMW, between the left and right tie rods. Now it's a few cm off so something is seriously wrong.
@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec It's really strenge then, I wouldn't say your car had any serious accident that would result in this misalignment. What could cause that then?
@@sampler_2329 I wonder the same thing. The car looks very clean and there are no accidents reported in the history. But with a new BMW idler arm and center link, the alignment is off. It was also off with the old original parts. I could see the idler arm rubbing on the heat shield above it, so it has been this way for some time. I will loosen the steering box and wiggle it to see if I can align it better.
Did this fix your steering play?

I am posting a new video today that explains a bit the ordeal I am going through with the steering alignment.
Great video ❤️❤️❤️
Did you buy all these parts from Rock Auto? Centre link, and pitman arms? If so, which brand? Thank you.

@@ClassicBMWFanInQuebec oh wow. Ok. I need to write all this down. Lol. Thx again! You da man!!
@@Resq28 No problem :) Are you planning to replace some steering parts too?

Your bottom of car is so clean
