Thanks a lot for a very to-the-point & practical video on Ophthalmology Training application. Please do consider making the video on Portfolio preparation. Thank you!
Thank you for such a great video. Can you please explain the on call schedule for ophthalmology trainees ?? Do they have resident oncalls or remote? And how hectic they usually are??
Hey Francesca, I’ve just tried to click on the link to but it looks like the website’s expired. They may have stopped making them? You could try this company instead, they seem good: hartnackandco.com
Hey Evey! I liked ur videos so much about ophthalmology training. I am IMG and doing my MRCS now. But I have now decided to choose ophthalmology. I know about the Crest form and MSRA exam. I just want to know that if I work as an SHO in ophthalmology in the UK, will I be able to get my supervisor to sign my Crest form or I have to work in acute medicine to complete the crest form signing?
@@eveyclay I'm a final year medical student in the UK, i was wondering if i could message you regarding the portfolio part of the application, if that's okay. Don't worry if not, appreciate the video. Thanks!
Thanks a ton for the video, Doctor Evey! I have a few questions though... 1. You said you went to theatres. Was this during your break year? Is it possible to just go to OR like that if you aren't officially appointed to that unit? 2. I watched your portfolio video as well. How did you go about writing a textbook chapter? I thought you had to be well into your career to get an opportunity like that. 3. You also talked about getting experience with Eyesi. Was this during the microsurgery training course or are there separate opportunities for that? Thank you again. Looking forward to more in-depth videos about each of the different components in the portfolio and exam prep :)
Hi! I went to clinics/theatres while I was still an F2. Luckily there was a relatively big department in the hospital where I worked at the time and they were ok with me shadowing. Managed to write a chapter as someone on my course wanted to write a textbook! With the EyeSi- I believe you have to attend the microsurgical skills course first, then you can get log ins for the eyesimulator
Hi, your videos are very informative! Thanks for the amazing content. Quick question, I'm guessing you studied for your FRCOpth part 1 through self learning..? Please can you share any info on what training materials are useful for someone taking this exam pre-ST1 level? Thanks.
Amazing video with all the information required, waiting for more videos like this. What is ST3 entry to Ophthalmology? Can you apply for it as F2 Doctor? the competition ratio seems low why is that compare to ST 1?
Hello! ((: thanks so much! I believe you can apply for st3 if you’ve had more than 24 months of ophthal experience (not including placements in f1 & f2) this might be useful: specialtytraining.hee.nhs.uk/portals/1/Content/Person%20Specifications/Ophthalmology/OPHTHALMOLOGY%20-%20ST3%20-2021.pdf
Working as a MO in private hospital in opthalmology department for more than 24 month, my question is that this experience in which level i can apply for training?.
Budding ophthalmologist in medical school, your videos are amazing! Would love to network with you as I’m studying in London and would love to get involved!
Ooh can definitely talk about that in a future video! There are weekends(1in8), long days(every other week or so) and nights (1in8) - as a rough estimate.
Hi am an ophthalmologist from india I finished in 2015..working since then..I hav finished my oculoplasty fellowship in India.. am planning to practice in uk for future..which path would you suggest
Hello Dr, I've recently cleared plab1 & hopefully I'll be sitting for plab 2 in next may. Thank you for all the information and guidance. Your RUclips channel is really helpful. I have a query. I'm interested in building a career as an ophthalmologist in UK. How difficult is that? Do you know any img who is in ophthalmology training? Is there anything I can do right now to help me achieve this goal? I have 10 month training in ophthalmology. Will that help? It would be very helpful if you could give me some answers or point me someone else who can answer this. Have a great day!
Hello! 10 months of training in ophthalmology sounds awesome! Congrats on clearing your plab 1 (: I think the UK recruitment system is very fair, and I found that the best thing to do was to focus on the portfolio preparation page on the Severn website and work on those things (like getting experience in clinics etc).

How much you think doing 2 years of a pre residency clinical research fellowship in the US would boost my portfolio by ?
That sounds like an awesome opportunity! Especially being able to get involved in research, getting publications etc (:

hi , does your med school grades matter for ophthalmology program acceptance ?
It doesn’t say so on the ophthalmology prep resources on the Severn deanery website!
Can you please tell about how to enter into ST3 training directly!
