I think this approach naturally prioritizes people with longer favorite lists. Makes sense but if you feel up for the maths next year, maybe you could go based on percentage instead.
That totally makes sense-if I was hurting for wins I would definitely switch things up. 💕
Since I tend to have a good amount of obscure favourites, I find the longer the list, the more likely I am to find those niche commonalities, which helps. 🤗
THE SHORT HAIR IS PERFECTION
Finally out of a year+ reading slump, I'm so excited for this year and all it has to offer. I got myself a library card yesterday, it was my first time leaving my house in about 14 months; I struggle mentally with leaving my home.
I got two books and devoured the first one when I got home. I'm so excited, I'm getting better and I'm falling in love with books again. It feels like I've come home

I love this series being split up into 4, and turning it into a competition is making me all the more curious who is going to win. I get most of my book recommendations from booktube so I'll be very interested to see if maybe I should be checking out other places... like IG apparently!
Maybe you could do a bracket video (don't know, maybe as a spinoff for members?) where you pit the favorites from all of the favorites videos against each other to find the ULTIMATE favorite?

Not sure if I’m repeating what you’re saying or adding to the idea. But I’d love a silly little video that tallies up the most popular book - like a Goodreads choice aware, Kayla’s version. So like she looks at the top books of all the people she engaged witu across this series and tally’s up the top 10 mentioned books to see what like objectively was the best book of the year in Kayla’s circle!
And if she hasn’t read the top book she has to read it (even if it’s a romance and she thinks she’ll hate it 😂)

I've never been more nervous to watch a Kayla video than this time. I who have never known men is my favorite book of all time. I read it for the first time in 2022 and reread it in 2023, solidifying its position . This book broke me but also grabbed me like nothing else.
Now, here's the best part for me. My first jar suggestion was Nothing to see here, which you picked as another member sufgestion and it was 5 stars. I added I who have never known men and you eead and it's also 5 stars. I'm happy!

I Who Have Never Known Men was Emily Fox's favourite of the year for 2022 (I want to say) and it has so intrigued me so much ever since. Great to see you also enjoying it.
Same! I read that book because of her too and im glad i did! Not getting answers is still haunting me to this day!
I also read it because of Emily and finished it just a few days ago. Had the same reaction as Kayla at the ending. But the more I think about the book the more it becomes asolid 5 star read. Was expecting to read a distopian and was really surprised by kinda reading a book about the meaning of life.

I don't think there's anything wrong with giving a book a low rating that you didn't enjoy, even if you didn't find anything technically wrong with the book. It's your personal rating of it! If you didn't get any personal enjoyment and/or growth from it, then there's no shame in sharing that truth.

Love this new way of doing favorites. I think it makes for such rich content. I added some of these to my TBR, and I'd never even heard of them before. Even if they aren't hits, I'm excited to try something so different from what I'm currently reading.
I wonder if it would make sense to normalize the scores somehow. For creators who posted a lot of books as their favorites, it gives them a big boost vs someone who only posted an overall top 10. Maybe normalizing them so that they can more “fairly” be compared would balance that out, possibly by doing it as a percentage of their books that were favorites of yours as well, or maybe using books you have read from their piles but did not give a 4+ star to as a -1 to the overall score.
The Quiet Tenant is absoutely true suspense! The immediate 2nd person POV roped me in as it's more speculative imo and reminded me of an honest dissociative state. I still don't know what I think about it.

I think Emily Fox has influenced many ppl to read I Who Have Never Known Men. It’s was her ultimate favorite and then she re-read it in French and loved it even more.

I read The Quiet Tenant in December and had the exact same thoughts. I no longer want to read thrillers about the most fkd up things that happen to women. It was an absolute marathon to get to the end of that book and the gag is I know a couple years ago I would have ate it up and give it 4/5 stars. I just cant do it anymore.
