  • Misshapen apples are never a beautiful sight. Many gardeners get frustrated by them since they are not pretty, often pitted, and sometimes even have bug holes in them. In today’s episode, we are covering what you can do about it and what causes it in the first place.

Mystery finally solved! We have had Apple trees purchased from Lowe's for seven years. I have never really gotten apples from the tree. There has never been many blossoms on the tree or the few we have had look like what you have in your video. Thank you for your invite and expertise. A big hello! I live just south of you and south of the National Guard base in Harrison Twp. I really enjoy your channel and representative of the Mid-west. Lol! There is Laura from Garden Answerr in the Pacific West, Erin from Impatient Gardener in the cooler Temps in Wisconsin, and Jenny & Jerry from Gardening with Creekside in the South. You all are an inspiration and a delight to watch. Keep up the good work!

Great information! This is the first year my trees have produced apples and I'm seeing the same dimples, pits and scars on my fruit. Good to know the cause and some potential solutions. Thank you friend to the east!

I had a problem with apple maggot flies ruining my apples for years. I tried different sprays, but nothing worked. Now I put barrier bags on every apple. It's alot of work, but I now have a beautiful harvest every year!

Dust the base of the tree from the trunk to a foot out from the drip line with diatomaceous earth. It will work itself into the ground and lacerate the larva when they emerge.

I'd turn those apples into vinegar. Then I use the vinegar to clean, drink and kill weeds between my river rock pathway. I enjoy the content you bring. I'll definitely be spraying my apples on time next year. Will this help with pears as well??

Will try your suggestions kn spray next year. And will get rid of the apples on the trees this year. Thanks for the tips.

Question: Does the Dr Bronner’s Insecticide soap work on Gypsy Moths for peach trees? I have these terribly too. Truly needed the information on the lumpy apples. I am new at raising fruit trees. Only had them 3 years so no good fruit yet. Just a few.

I run the ground processors around all the apple and pear trees and they collect all the down ground apples + pears and runs them through an acid bath then processes them into fertilizer. These processors are total pigs.

I've had this issue for years and I'm considering cutting the apple tree down and planting another variety. Neem oil and even commercial insecticides haven't really helped. I couldn't find the name of this little pest until this video. Between this pest and japanese beetles, the tree doesn't stand a chance.
