Instagram - AdamTheWooATW Something a little different today but really enjoyed seeing these spots. Early 90s Green Day made a big impression on my life and was the reason I picked up the bass guitar and started a band . Ahh memories
My old hood! Used to go to Gilman in the early 90's. Never saw Green Day there but my sisters did. My sisters friends used to be extras in Green Day's music videos. "When i come around" & "Geek stink breath" are a couple i can think of. I used to work in a used guitar shop in Berkeley in the 90's and used to sell guitars to Billie, Mike and Tre. The Kramer Bass Mike played at Wood Stock 94 was from our shop. I saw Mike buy it. He brought it back after Woodstock to get fixed because he got tackled by security and got a tooth knocked out. The guys in Rancid were friends of my sisters too. Fun times!
Dookie is one of my favorite albums of all time period. I'd love to see you do more videos on punk bands and their history. Awesome video and keep up the great work Adam!
I had no idea you had huge appreciation and inspiration for Green Day man, even overlooked your tattoo on your arm. Op Ivy, Rancid. Lots of great music mentioned here. I heavily enjoyed this. Especially you visiting Gilman and Christie Road. That Bug! Thanks for sharing this. was so cool.
I'm really surprised you didn't show the corner of Stuart St and Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley (that the song Stuart and the Ave. got its title from). Green Day's cousins lived down the street from me and I used to ride my bike around there waiting for them to show up which they would from time to time. I was a nerdy little kid who got his hands on the first pressing of their Sweet Children EP, and their cousins called up Billie and let me talk to him to confirm if it was real. He never wanted anyone to get ripped off. super nice guys. Still love them.
Also Adam, I have original copies of 2 of the demo tapes Green Day recorded that got them the record deal at Reprise records in 1993. I would love to mail you a CDR of it. let me know if there is a PO box I can mail it to. Love all your videos. keep up the good work!
My old next door neighbor was Travis Barker n for my birthday he took me to the pop disaster tour I got too meet all the guys there all humble and great guys
Cool video, went to high school with Mike (bassist) down a few miles at Pinole Valley, class of 90, remember he was in my PE class. Green Day performed our senior year in the mall of the school 🏫. Wow memories!
CLAP CLAP CLAP This was quite good. I love it when history and pop culture blend together to create an amazing experience such as watching this fantastic video by the great Adam the Woo.
Awesome work, thank you. I live in Hercules and my son goes to 'the' Pinole Valley High School. Right before you got on the bridge toward the end of the video, you passed Carquinez Middle School. (That was the Carquinez Bridge) CMS is where Mike and Billie met and became friends. So awesome that he connected his songwriting with reality in the same way he connected the band and the crowd. Every night I work out in my garage with the door cracked blasting Jesus of Suburbia, Holiday, Blvd of Broken Dreams, etc. in the hopes that one day someone will be knocking on it, I'll open the door, and Billie Joe will be standing there...
That's awesome that you made this video - I went to 924 Gilman about a year ago and just wondered all the awesomeness that place has seen. I was lucky enogh to see Green Day back in 1993 at a place called La Luna in Portland, OR for like 5 bucks - changed my life.
How awesome that you’re up here! This was such a great little nostalgic video. I have a buddy that works at the Gilman and gave me a heads up back when they did a surprise show a couple years ago. Enjoy your time up here!
Green Day has been my favorite band for 21 years. I live on the east coast so can’t really make it out to these place. From one fan to another, thank you for this.
You didn't!, you just didnt!, out of nowhere, This was an Awesome Surprise on one of my favorite bands..... Nice!!!.....There's so much history in the bay area.
I saw them in Detroit a couple of years ago at a small 2,500 seat venue. One of the best shows I have ever seen. You could feel the floor of the balcony bouncing up and down because the crowd was rocking so hard. Great band. Thanks Adam great vlog today!!!!
Glad you made it out safe from west Oakland! When Green Day signed their first deal. The club on Gilman said they could never come back. They later regretted saying that. Oakland has so much music history, and it's not being covered like it should. Glad you did this Green Day was a top band of mine as well. I'm in Los Angeles to see the Dodgers play tonight. Thank you Adam!!!
Green Day Rules!!! They helped me deal with stuff through my childhood and let me escape into the lyrics of their songs. Thank you Adam for sharing this!
Awesome video dude. I remember I got into Green Day at 16 years old, I even visited The Bay area, Broken Guitars ( Billie Joe's store) and even went to Gilman and went inside as well. During my visit at Gilman, I met Tim Armstrong's brother Jeff, he was really kind enough to get a tour of the place and man Gilman is so awesome. Thanks for sharing this video, Green Day as a whole represented my adolescent years. I'm 20 now and I still get excited listening to Green Day.
YES ADAM!!! As someone who loves all of your content but isn't particularly interested in all the Halloween/scare maze stuff, I feel like this more than makes up for kinda tolerating the past few weeks of (admittedly still great!) content that just wasn't quiiiiite to my tastes. This is a BRILLIANT return to the stuff I personally like, not to mention one of my all time fave bands!!
I loved your channel before but after this video I died I love greenday and this made me love your channel more because I’m a crazy punk fan. Stay awesome Adam. Thanks for being awesome
I love green day I've saw them a few times. I have been looking for a video on Gilman street for ages. Loved Green day since I was 12 I'm 40 this year. Wish I lived in America so I could tour all the great places you go to xx
The very first concert I ever attended was Green Day on December 3, 1995 I saw them in West Palm Beach, FL. I was just about to turn 13 years old.... Thanks for this video Adam, it brought back some good memories of one of my favorite bands.
They played a gig at my buddies parents house in Benicia for our going away to the Army party in 89, great times. There were some killer punks shows all around the bay, late 80's- early 90's. W.D.B.C., and all that. Thanks for the great revisit Adam.
Loved that GREEN DAY was in the simpsons movie! Operation ivy is my fav..but always really loved GUTTERMOUTH..Teri yakimoto is my fav!😎Afternoon Adam!!
Wrong warehouse, bud. I lived there with 'em. You're at 8th & Pine where Russ Lung Butter used to have a studio. The place you wanted to see was a few blocks up at 7th & Campbell. And it was far from abandoned. There were 2 industrial garage sized halls ground level and 15 bedrooms upstairs full of punks, not to mention all the fleas. I used to practice at the warehouse you showed.
Born and raised in the east bay. I saw Green Day about the same time you did. I graduated HS in 96. Saw many shows at the Gilman and the Berkeley Square. Good times my friend!
great work woo,i was playing pubs when dookie come out, played a heap of songs from that album live, this week mr woo, i retire from music,30 years of great times,,,,good work woo, good work
Very cool video! To be clear, the school was completely torn down a few years back. Completely leveled. It has since been rebuilt. So nothing on the property is the same as it was during that live performance.
Fantastic video, I freakin LOVE Green Day! I've always wanted to see these locations. Until I can experience their stomping grounds in person, thanks for letting me do it vicariously through you :)
The fact that you actually took us to Christie Road a place I’ve thought about 1 million fucking times but living here in the Boston area I would have to go really really far to see in the fact that you brought that to us that’s pretty cool. I’m 34 years old and have been listening to Green Day since I was 10 this means a lot to me thank you
I'm a big Green Day fan, in fact my senior year of high school (this past year), I was in a theatre class and one of the projects was we had to sing a song from a musical and I brought up American Idiot: the Musical to my teacher because I wanted to do St. Jimmy and after explaining to her who Green Day is, she looked up the song list and saw all the explicits next to the title and I had to do Wake Me Up When September Ends and the day I had to sing the song, I showed up dressed as Billie Joe and my friends and a couple teachers say I look like him and ever since then, my friends call me "discount Billie Joe" and I occasionally get people coming up to me asking me if I'm related to him
Great video. I've been hoping you'd film something like this for a while. I'm a second generation Green Day fan, my Dad raised my sister and I on their music.
I was standing on stage right with Billie playing the opening riff to welcome to paradise. The year was 1994, the venue was the hatchshell in Boston. A free show that was not prepared for a crowd of 6000. Only 5 songs in and the crowd bum rushed the stage knocking over the metal barriers, trampling the flower bed and as they reach the stage, Billie drops his guitar and bolts for the rear of the stage, Mike follws, i follow Mike leaving Tre behind me as an all out riot began. Frightening sight indeed. I hid with the band and my friend Terry downstairs as riot grew with the arrival of the police. Ill mever forget the feeling of being trapped and unsure of the crowds intent. Green Day was sued by the family members whose kids got injured, but it wasn't their fault as they were not responsible for venue security or safety. When court date came around, Billie had to borrow a suit from Dickie pf the Mighty Bosstones to wear in court. True story.
Cool vid I like the Billy Joe story of him sneaking in! Theres a video on RUclips I watched recently of operation ivy playing at Gilman in 88 and Billy Joe is right in the front. Wonder if that's the show op ivy snuck him in for
Great job Adam! So cool to see you in NorCal...my stomping ground :-) I went to Gillman once and saw The Mentors. We used to see Primus a lot back then over at Berkley Square. I saw Green Day at Lollapalooza 94, they blew the place up.
Ive been to the tracks of Christie road too.. if i Remember they are in rodeo,, California.. it was great sensation. Greetings from Italy. Oh and then i also saw the Pinole High school...top
Very cool video. I love Green Day. I saw Billie Joe play with The Longshot in small club this summer (Horseshoe Tavern). It was awesome. Very cool to see Christie road in real life
Can you please do an investigative video of all the old stomping grounds and early years of Van Halen? From their Pasadena childhood home and Pasadena high school, to their breakout years playing at the Whiskey on Sunset. Thanks Woo!
Dookie is the one CD that I still keep in my car and really the only CD that I listen to on a regular basis. So many memories tied to each one of those songs.
Well, We were just there last week! My son wanted a pic of 924. My family lives in the Bay area. You should go to Rasputin for records and stuff. Cool place! Awesome vlog. Have fun!
Interesting tour! I can really appreciate seeing historic places like this first-hand. There's just that "shock" feeling of "Wow, this is where it all happened!" Places like that... I just never want to leave! Oh, there should be a TNT sticker on that sign! :D
I’ll be making the same trek in September going to the saviors tour at oracle park. Never been to nor cal so very excited to see these cool Green Day landmarks 👍

TheDailyWoo I like a little different Hope you have an excellent day my friend enjoying this video now
My older sister used to go there before Green Day went big time. She said they received a lot of hate for going mainstream.
Are you still in the East Bay ???!!!!! Fan meet and greet ????!!!!! C mon man !!!!!
Oh nevermind.......just seen you were driving on the old Bay Bridge......that thing is long gone.

What a time to be alive. I was about 19 or 20. Working at Pic n Save. That was truly a care free time of my life.
