Hey guys, thanks for leaving a comment! The Arkham games kind of have a tendency to keep its own mechanics vague sometimes. The very first game changer beginner tip I can offer to you is to make sure you know your character's Special Combo Takedowns. If you are playing on Mouse and Keyboard like me, make sure these are bound to comfortable buttons (I use Q, R and T for Combo Takedown 1, 2 and 3). Now, the really important part is that Batman and Azrael (who are mostly identical) can perform "Disarm and Destroy". This can be performed on shield thugs, stun batons, even knife wielding thugs. This essentially can defuse the problematic enemy types as you are fighting, as if you were to simply attack them, someone else would pick up their weapon, but if you destroy it, it is gone. On top of this, everyone has a basic Special Combo Takedown, which is to just take someone out while being invulnerable for the animation duration. This can help you quickly take out Brutes, Ninjas, even Medics so that they cannot zap other enemies. You can also use this on Militia Brutes, but it will take two uses of Special Combo Takedown to eliminate them; unless you've picked up a weapon (bat/pipe). Good luck, and please ask if you struggle with something specific, and I can give even more curated tips, if I'm able.
Another tip: you can take out an armored brute in one shot with the batclaw combo attack on the condition that 1. They don’t have their shield equipped as their weapon. 2. They don’t have active shock gloves. If they do, shoot the, with the REC and then use the batclaw combo attack. You can also use this on armored brutes with dual wrist-blades as they can neither block you with a shield nor shock you on contact.
@@thefierce I was TERRIBLE at combat three weeks ago when I chose to do all achievements in Asylum. To give you an idea, I was stuck on the 2nd combat map for 6 hours. Barely cleared all of them in the end. I found that I did improve in combat during that time but not that much. Then onto Knight and I did the take no damage achievement on Crime Alley and perfect freeflow on Monarch theater with all 4 characters. Each character took me about 1-2 hours and Catwoman maybe 6. However I felt I improved massively in combat here compared to before. I just began cheesing redirect and strike, redirect, strike and on and on. Yesterday I finished City all achievements including campaigns with all characters. I managed to clear most combat ones on first go, sometimes I had to try 2-3 times but nothing major. Now then back onto knight and this challenge. I managed a combo of 240 ish on one of my first proper tries, then some failures, went to bed and managed another 270 combo, then a 346. Since then though I became completely stuck and frustrated, I can't get above 200 not even with batclaw slams which I resorted to earlier just to see if I can do better. Score yes, but combo no. Eventually I'll throw a batarang 30% of the time I try to do it, or a ninja will blindside me. I don't know what to do exactly as even the things that were working before (redirecting) isn't anymore and I'm CONSTANTLY punching the wrong guy

Hey, thank you for leaving a comment! To preface everything I am about to say, I think the Arkham games have a tendency to keep its mechanics vague sometimes- but it is no problem as long as we keep learning. My fundamental approach to freeflow combat is to defuse problematic enemy types and make fluid use of Special Combo Takedowns. Make sure that you know the buttons for these; if you're on Mouse and Keyboard like me, bind them to comfortable buttons (I use Q, R, T, just how I remember from Arkham City.) Batman and Azrael, being identical, have access to three of these Special Combo Takedowns: a) Special Combo Takedown (universal for all characters) - where you just take down any enemy, and you are invulnerable for the animation duration. You can use this to streamline the process of attacking a ninja, a brute- you can even use it on medics to take them out early so that they do not electrify too many enemies. b) Disarm and Destroy - the underrated bread and butter! This will make you permanently destroy an enemy's weapon. If you were to simply attack someone with a shield or stun baton, someone else can simply pick it up. You may even initiate an attack on someone as they are picking it up, and feel cheated out of your combo. However, if you use Disarm and Destroy, the shield, the stun baton, the rifle- whatever they were using, is permanently destroyed. c) Special Ground Takedown - I use this one less, but it will instantly KO any number of enemies given that they are grounded. If you punched three medics in a row and sent them to the floor, it can be a great option to take, as it will instantly take out three medics. Make sure that as you are fighting, you are observing all the options the game provides for you! The more options you have, the more of them you can use to tackle the combat in the game. Please feel free to ask if you have specific things you struggle with, and fight hard! 👍
Keep trying! It's fun to keep pushing your personal best further and further. Furthermore, I can try to offer you tips, if you'd like. I'm by no means the best, but I've formulated some strategies for myself. Is there anything specific you struggle with or would you prefer a general freeflow combat kind of take?
@@Looksmaxxed87 I think you should only counter if there is an imminent threat. Otherwise, keep critically striking enemies- though, don't attack someone that is next to someone who is about to attack you; "kite away", if it makes sense. You can also evade to reset all attacks if it makes you feel safer. If all else fails, initiate a Special Combo Takedown to gain immunity and while the animation is playing out, study the enemies and figure out an attack pattern again.
If you're the kind of guy to go for high scores, you would already complete any given level with a full freeflow combo without getting hit; and essentially, you have to do that for 12 total rounds using Batman (4) Robin (4) and Nightwing (4). Make sure you are aware of all the options the game presents you, have an attack pattern in mind for all enemy types. I like to defuse problematic enemy types ASAP, special combo takedowns on medics, ninjas, disarm and destroy shields and batons, etc. Figure out which enemy types annoy you the most and get rid of them as soon as possible to make the level easier for yourself. The rest is concentration. You can take it as fast or as slow as you want, you will not drop your combo if you keep evading over enemies. As long as you keep making valid attacks and not getting hit- you will be fine. In fact, I think the achievement for Crime Alley states "unharmed", but not necessarily one continuous combo, so that is also a leeway.
Nice work
I dont know if anyone else agrees but I dont like this map because the speacial enemies make im impossible to start fun combos
