I am 100% never going to play ice hockey, but I am 100% going to subscribe to his channel and watch intently. Why? I have no idea but it is amazing to watch.
Bro just get ya a pair of skates. Find a rink that has just public skating to get a feel for it. Get some laps in. When the day comes that feels easy, Find a stick and puck. A route to playing hockey can be faster than you imagine. I learned in my 30s and it's the best thing I've done. Physically, mentally giving you something to do in the winters. I challenge you to give it a shot. It sounds like the sport is calling you. Also you'll surround yourself with some of the best people around. Another piece of advice for anyone wanting to get into it. Do what I said and also talk to people. Make friends, Hockey people always want more hockey people around.
I enjoy watching hockey, but never understood the hits. This was a good base understanding of hits. Do you have any videos regarding what would be a clean vs dirty hit that results in boarding? I tried watching videos from the NHL and other explanations from fans but i am still so damn confused. some of the clean hits shown looked like they were hitting the head or didn't show in a way you presented, albeit, I know hockey is a fast paced game but I don't understand the boarding. A good example was the Rangers vs Islanders stadium series a few days ago where a player was checked/hit and a lot of fans were calling for boarding but a fan behind me said it was clean because he didn't hit the boards first, he hit ice first. I'm all kinds of confused on it. Any videos to explain the difference amongst the two?
im planning to join boys hockey (as a girl) next year when checking is allowed and so far im practicing hitting with my older brother but, this was really helpful and descriptive instead of me and my brother just hitting eachother lol
Good luck! Didnt even know that was alllwed to be honest. Whats the locker room situation like though theres no way girls would be allowed to dress on the same room as guys right
At 60 I’m old enough to remember checking from the time I was a squirt . I don’t Agree teaching this at bantam the size difference in kids starting to mature and those that haven’t yet can be 90 pounds and a foot difference in height . I coached mites through juniors and I want to scream because at the bantam level they should already know how to give and receive a proper check
I’m watching this video because I used to be a goalie and my first shift playing out as defense I got suspended. I felt so bad for the kid I hit I didn’t want to lay him out but I didn’t know how to hit legally
You should add a disclaimer that everything taught in this video is illegal contact in USA Hockey. The exact opposite technique is the only thing allowed at 14U and up.
Teaching how to take a hit buddy... Points to protect chest and lead with shoulder are valid. Obviously he over emphasized the low stance and coming up
@@ursamajor6347 an average NHL player (200lb) skates 3 times faster than the fastest NFL runner. Momentum = mass x velocity. The football player would have to weigh almost 550-600lb for it to be mathematically comparable
@@ursamajor6347 Hockey hits are harder, football hits are more consistent. Theres big boys on the rink + football players are ready to get hit. Sometimes a hockey player catches a hit by surprise.
@@ursamajor6347 Your logic would make sense if hockey players were sitting still. Compare this to a car crash if someone is driving 40kmph and hits a pole thats stand still the impact would be 40kmph. Now if someone is driving 40kmph and runs into another car driving 40kmph the impact would be 80kmph. Im not saying by anymeans football players are pu33ies or anything cause there not. Football players get more concussions because every play they are tackling. A hockey player might take 1-2 hits a game or 1-2 big hits a season. Its not nearly as many hits. USA Hockey's rule to lead with the stick and play the puck before a hit is an attempt to take 'lighting up' or punishing a player out of the game. Hits must now serve a purpose which is to regain puck possession.
@@harmagician1 the new rules prevent finishing checks promote playing the puck instead of the body. Two concepts that are the opposite of how defending was always taught. Not sure how players growing up playing this style will do against competition that don't follow these new rules. Such as international play and also currently high schools don't follow this.
95% of the time, these checks aren't even getting called under the new rules. Couple reasons, refs know this game is fast, and USA Hockey is asking too much from players to let up after they've already committed to the hit. Secondly, I've noticed a big change in physicality from players themselves, they're worried about being called for it, so all they do is just bump into them, no extra push or force. It is certainly underpreparing our kids for the future and it's bullshit.

I did today on the street the man did not expected

man this guy coaching skills are phenomenal you can tell he loves what he does
As a first year Bantam this helped a lot…thanks
Great content. I am just too old for ice hockey now, age is 42. But I would love to have this man as my coach.
never too old go join a mens league!!
Not too old but it will be harder
My dads was 50 when he started hockey. 2 Years in he’s healthier and doing great!
I am 63 and play both goal and wing at least seven times a week.
My dad 47 and still plays 3 times a week
This is great for protecting yourself during skating, skiing, when someone charges at you. Great advice
I needed to learn how to check, and well with you teaching me, I learned in minutes. I should show this to my team.
For some reason I found myself watching the coach's skates. Like, the way he moves is fascinating to me.
Thanks, this is really helpful.
You are welcome.
I love your contents. So straightforward and kind

Please don’t flinch when you’re taking a hit, IE rolling your shoulders… that will result in injury to shoulders
great vid, never learnt how to hit head on for defence, I always have to wait till they go kinda past me so I can push their shoulder from beside.
Truly awesome lesson!!

Hope you are doing well so far! In my league, a lot of the girls get knocked down since they are smaller and weaker than the other boys
this is a phenomenal coach!
I’m watching this because I just started aaa bantam
Awesome!
Thanks for showing me how to be a goon in beer league lol 😂 😂😂😂
Cool. Now when should I check?
What state is this in because I’d drive how many miles to be able to have a coach like this
Этот тип очень круто объясняет и ведёт тренеровки👍🏻👏🏻💪🏻
Spasibo!
This is also mosh pit etiquette.

How does an ice hockey check compared to football hit? Obviously a speed difference, but still
It's like 30% harder hitting.
