Well this is an early one! I scheduled it for AM instead of PM! Or well lucky for you lot, something to watch on your lunch time. Short video this week as it all I had time for. Give us a thumbs up and subscribe. All the best everyone hope your having a great week.
It is nice to know that some owners will pay to sort out problems that can be potentially expensive to fix. In cars as refined as Mercs, stuff like this can be annoying. There's nothing wrong with the way you're doing your videos. You've developed your own style so stick with it. There's nothing wrong with your voiceovers either. Just keep on being yourself in the videos and you won't go far wrong. 20K subscribers can't be all wrong.
Watching your videos shows why quality cars cost more. These cars have such complicated heating systems but are fabulous. I really enjoy my CLK but going down memory lane I can remember driving without any heater just an old pilot jacket and having to stop to scrape ice off the inside of the windscreen. Then I had a heater, wow, leaning forward to operate a metal flap to get more heat on the feet or close off to get heat to the screen! Today, the comfort in ones car is greater than we had in our lounge. I understand technology has moved on but also understand the reason cars have become so heavy. Thanks for another great video. Several ways to clean sticky plastic but all worth while.
I was stunned when you said how much it cost to fix the noise. Given how involved it is to remove most of the dash replace the motor and all the while you're in there parts, i think that quote is really good. I bet the owner was well happy!! I know I would be. Great job!!
@@paulsz6194Likely more, at that mileage and condition. It doesn’t matter either way because the owner will probably never sell it, and obviously he knows the job is well worth it… and that it’s a better car than its successors. The well preserved ones are worth the investment.
@@charlesphiliparthurgeorgep4653 i always thought the W204 was a better built car & more reliable than the W203…obviously this one is in above-average condition .
@@paulsz6194 They aren’t really. Granted, an early W204 is more reliable than an early W203, but 2005-2007 W203’s are VERY reliable and have great build quality. They had a somewhat rough start, but became excellent cars. The W204’s are still good, but not up to the same standards of what MB has always been known for. In other words, it’s very obvious that the W204 is a “cheaper” built car with a focus on large production volume and lower costs to the company. I’ve also seen far more major electrical issues in the W204 and W212, than there ever were in the W203 and W211. These aren’t minor electrical gremlins, they are module communication and driver/key authorization issues which leave the car essentially “dead” until dealt with via STAR diagnostic. Keep in mind, the average mechanic won’t have access to this system, and might have not ever heard of it. This makes the problem very inconvenient and very (potentially) expensive. These problems can (and will) leave the driver stranded at literally any time without warning, which makes these models significantly LESS reliable than their predecessors in my opinion. They are unfortunately not predictable problems, and not related to age or wear. When the W204’s are as old as the W203’s are now, I can’t imagine they’ll be holding up as well as they are overall… as their drivetrains also happen to be more troublesome and difficult to work on. I just can’t see people investing money into aging W204’s like people do with W203’s. Many people are already labeling the W203 a “classic.” Personally, I’d pay a lot more for a nice W203 than settle for a W204. The W204 was one of the first MB’s I’d driven that felt “foreign,” in comparison to every other MB that preceded it. Regardless, it’s still a matter of taste. Some people prefer it, even though it’s an inferior car… which is perfectly understandable. They’re dirt cheap, so not much to loose if it becomes a massive headache.
@@paulsz6194 My comment was deleted. In short, no it was not. The later W203’s were better than any of the W204’s. The W204 is better than the W205, but the overall build quality and reliability of the W203 is superior to the W204. I have seen major electrical issues with the W204 and W212 involving module communication issues which leaves the car dead, and a STAR system is required to solve the problem. It’s very common on that generation, while it’s rare on the W203. Years from now, you’ll most likely see far more W203’s on the road because most of the W204’s will have been scrapped.
Another very interesting video… and it's not surprising that you've already reached your maximum capacity for clients! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service and product knowledge / experience.
Your presentational skills and ability to “modell”Merch are second to none Sam. Just watched this video whilst having my morning coffee. I applaud your attention to detail and the fact that you clean everything prior to reassembley, this inspires customer confidence in your work. I had. C class estate with the 5 cylinder diesel on it in 2002 as a company car. Loved that motor, should have bought it from the lease company when I left, but the asking price was too strong for me at the time!
Had to partially dismantle the dashboard of a 2004 Audi A8 in to attempt to fix the mechanism of the multi media screen that raises and lowers. After all that I found out there was nothing wrong with it, it was working beautifully and it just wasn't getting a signal. Only managed to do this because some thoughtful person (I think he was German) put a video on RUclips showing how to do it.
Nice detailed explanation and demonstration of how the parts can fail and how to repair including preventative work. £750 is good value for that much work. The customer will be happy with the fix especially when they see this video.👍
I enjoyed this vehicle. I'm sure your customer was pleased that the cost of the repair was less than half of your original estimate. I have a 2005 C230. The air flow to the foot well on both sides is always on. This is not a problem in the winter, but in the summer my wife complains about cold feet due to the air conditioner blowing directly on her. I have a diagnostic tool and if I recall correctly, it said that the flaps were stuck. When the problem started, I removed the covers under the dash to see whether I could access the motors. I am seeking a more detailed DIY procedure before I make another attempt.
This is what so brilliant about the w124 with the rotary switch for air direction. A manual cable control that sends air wherever you want it and also lets you choose how much with one knob and no electric motors or vacuum pods.
On my W221 the steering wheel buttons were super sticky. I found Gtechniq Panel Wipe, absolutely awesome, spray on a micro fibre cloth, gently wipe over the buttons, job done. Great post by the way👍
So looking forward to your videos. Don’t change a thing. Also, I really like you treat customers cars as if they were your own. Great job! ( btw, a lot of people think that a low mileage car is without problems. It’s not the mileage, it’s age) thanks for your time!

Amazing work! I usually have to spend time cleaning the car interior after it's been to a garage for work and you send the car back cleaner than it arrived!
This is a real eye opener as to how horrendously and IMO unnecessarily complicated, and therefore expensive, cars have become! 10 motors for heavens sake just to regulate the interior air flow! Surely it must occur to car designers some day that there should be a simpler and cheaper way. It is no wonder so many cars usually have annoying rattles from the dash area if there's all that going on behind. Also all those horrible plastic cogs have no place in what is supposed to be a quality car, but then Mercedes had already soiled that reputation when these cars were fobbed off onto the public.
Great video (again!). I’ve just bought a W209 55AMG having watched your buyers guide. Love it. Clicking noise on start up for about 30 seconds. But at £200 per motor plus labour, it s something I can live with. Still, great to see the cause of the problem being sorted. 👍🏻😃

Great video and voice overs! I never get bored watching unlike some videos, really authentic and I am glad you included the price which I suspect everyone is wondering about. I thought the price for all the work was very reasonable. Professional editing too!
I did assist a good friend of mine, removing the dashboard in an older car I had then. We were hunting for the source of a water leak - which turned out to go from the scuttle into the passenger footwell. When we finally found it, it proved that the dashboard never needed to come out. I would avoid stripping out a dashboard, unless you had no other hope of solving a terrible issue. It's often both scary and tortuous. I was very lucky that my friend was a bodywork expert. He knew how to locate the sneaky ways car makers hide screws and clips. In the end I had to remove most of the interior just to dry it out. All because Rover had made a ghastly cheap bodge to solve a deeply stupid design error. NEVER buy a Rover!! They are JUNK.
Had the same issue on my CLK, in the end the car was written off after an accident so I never got around to doing it myself. Good to know about the price though.
My CLK55 had the click about 30 times on every start up. I found that if I selected the carbon filter it would not click. So now I just keep the carbon filter selected all the time , and because I live in the country with clean air I removed the carbon filters because they are not needed. The bad motor is very hard to see , and would require full dash removal , so I just don't worry about it.
Can I offer a bit of advice. Use silicone grease on plastic parts, as it doesn't go hard unlike petrochemical based grease. Use silicone grease sparingly, just a wipe over moving parts.
An excellent video. Many independent shops don’t want to tackle climate control systems because of the time to remove the dash, and customers balk at the cost-not knowing the complexity of many systems.
Brilliant videos, thanks for giving the cost at the end, really enlightening. Wish you were local, you'd have a customer with a 2008 w203 C220 diesel 'Sportcoupe'. Great car, but my old Nissan used to sail through it's MoT, unlike...
Great vid. Only a shame it wasn’t a how to on removing the front bumper and repairing the headlight bracket on a 2009 W207 😂. Still, very interesting anyway!
Yes my wife's C32 has the dreaded clicking sound and diagnostics says it's the left footwell flap. Have had the noise probably well over 8 years now and just live with it. Not keen to start pulling the dash apart. Fault only appears for roughly 30 secs at start up.
Great video, always wondered what this job looks like! In your experience is there anything that can cause it? Mileage, types of usage, age etc etc (not that I'm bricking it that it will happen to me 😂) If I ever need it doing on the CLK, the whileyoureinthere job would definitely be fitting a cupholder to that place in the dash where it could be optioned 😄
A nice treat, some breakfast SPR content, will we be treated to something else at dinner time tonight? :) Great job, I was pleasantly surprised by the cost considering what you had to do although I must admit, if it was my car I think I would probably live with it due to the value of the vehicle.
This was suppose to be the evening video, I set it to AM instead of PM But with it not being the longest it seems to be going down well with the breakfast club 😂
Amazing how many times that when you see people when they're in there, fail to clean off everything they've just removed before putting it back. It does my head in!
Cheers mate. I'm an old Manc now living in Thailand and have always wondered why 'C' class Mercs were so cheap on Marketplace- now I know! By the way do you have a sister called , Barbara? My last car in the UK was a 320CDI and my friend Barbara recommended her brother to sort some issues out. 16 or so years ago.

Another great job, I do enjoy these videos you put out 👍
Great work 👏 SPR is the best
Excellent video - so nicely paced . Cheers
Great content, own a 2005 203, hope I don't encounter this problem.
Great vid. Only a shame it wasn’t a how to on removing the front bumper and repairing the headlight bracket on a 2009 W207 😂. Still, very interesting anyway!
most people pass on the repair and simply live with the noise, i repaired mine in my wifes C240 many moons ago... :)
Feels good once it’s fixed doesn’t it
Cracking video 👍
Great job, thank you!
What may be reason of blow by on oil cup but no oil consupson, 200cdi om 646?
Yes my wife's C32 has the dreaded clicking sound and diagnostics says it's the left footwell flap.
Have had the noise probably well over 8 years now and just live with it. Not keen to start pulling the dash apart.
Fault only appears for roughly 30 secs at start up.
Great video, always wondered what this job looks like! In your experience is there anything that can cause it? Mileage, types of usage, age etc etc (not that I'm bricking it that it will happen to me 😂)
If I ever need it doing on the CLK, the whileyoureinthere job would definitely be fitting a cupholder to that place in the dash where it could be optioned 😄
It’s random tbh, seems to be the older ones more common than the facelifts.
And yes we would fit you a cup holder 💯 😂
Hi JJ, no cup holder in my CLK, I just pop my sunnies 😎in a soft bag and keep them in there.
Every W203 owner watches video intently
😂
A nice treat, some breakfast SPR content, will we be treated to something else at dinner time tonight? :) Great job, I was pleasantly surprised by the cost considering what you had to do although I must admit, if it was my car I think I would probably live with it due to the value of the vehicle.
This was suppose to be the evening video, I set it to AM instead of PM
But with it not being the longest it seems to be going down well with the breakfast club 😂
I love you videos
Isopropyl alcohol on a clean cloth also works well on cleaning sticky buttons.
Omg what a nightmare job nice to see how its done without having to do it interesting viewing
Great knowledge
Used to be a 30min job on left hand drive car. Motor an Lever. Done dozens of them.
Well impressed
That soft touch rubbery coating that gets sticky was one of the worst decisions automakers used interior-wise.
Horrible isn’t it 🤢
Amazing how many times that when you see people when they're in there, fail to clean off everything they've just removed before putting it back. It does my head in!
Hey Sam. Always interesting vids. But a question. The box with the motor has a "best before" date. Why does an electric motor have a use by date??
I’m not sure tbh
cheers from tumbi umbi nsw australia,
Cheers mate.
I don’t mate no.
I was still here all them years ago though
Your up early!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
