After having a chance to watch this video and think about it, I think your mental framing is very helpful and very applicable to situations beyond just academic writing. I am learning stenography (machine shorthand) and it feels similar to learning a foreign language even though it is not actually a distinct spoken language -- it is a phonetic-mnemonic mapping system in the same language you already speak (English in this case). Still, I've felt the feelings of not being able to use stenography for all the words I want to say and I think the tips in this video are helpful for reframing that feeling.
