Skynyrd was a phenomenal band. One of the best ever
Righto ,Neal ,and the album it's off of, Second Helping , I bought in high school in 74 and played it all the time..Awesome ..
@Mark Draine They were my 1st concert, at the capital centre in Largo Maryland, October 1976. I saw them exactly one year to the day before the plane crash.
Lynyrd Skynyrd + J.J. Cale.....a breeze ?..... no, a hurricane !!!
Try as I might, I can't argue that! I got nothing.
Some of the best lyrics ever. "I ain't hiding from nobody. Nobody's hiding from me. That's the way it oughta be."
“Billy Powell on piano!” This song is the best pick-me-up song ever written!
Billy Powell was the keyboardist. He worked as a roadie with the band until they discovered his talent.
Jacksonville says Hello!
He also was a classically trained concert pianist !
Rippin' it up!!!
I call Billy Powell a piano player.
After a show they heard him playing Free Bird on a grand piano and Ronnie said you could play piano this whole time you didn't tell us
The musicianship by the members of Skynyrd is just out of this world. I'm so glad I was a teenager when this was happening!
Right here with you. We did grow up in the VERY BEST Generation. Peace My Brother. Black Concert T's, Levi's Elephant Bells, a Red Bandana doo'rag, and our Addias All Stars.
Oh Man almost forgot about the 8-Tracks and Zig Zags dude!.
Amen brother they were phenomenal very under appreciated they were all spectacular musician’s…
@@amrak5028 I was a "Jobs" papers personally!
@@maryreilly5092 Me too, bought a case box each time so i didn't run out. Do you remember the Strawberry?
@@amrak5028 Oh Yeah!😉
Billy Powell, the pianist, was not an original member of the band, he was their roadie. When they were in Muscle Shoals recording Free Bird for the very first time, the band went out to lunch, and he was playing the piano intro to Free Bird when they came back in, and they were floored both by what he was playing and that he could play at all. He was a concert pianist, and he thought they wouldn't like that he had studied music formally, so he never told them. They heard that intro and made him a member of the band, and the rest is history. Can't imagine this song without the piano solo.
I thought he went to Bolles while it was still a military school, but apparently he went to BK
Holy Cr$@p. This is one of the best rock ‘n roll songs ever recorded. Can’t believe you haven’t heard it before. Skynyrd was one of the best rock bands EVER, and this song proves it. Rest in peace fellas!
Caution driving with this song on may result in speeding ticket. Billy Powell on piano. You've only scratched the surface of Skynyrd 's catalog so many bangers ✌🤘💞
Mr. Billy Powell burning that piano down
Asia & BJ, you’ll love their "Gimme Three Steps" and "What's Your Name?"!!
My all time favorite Skynyrd song. Billy Powell burning up those keys. If this song don't make you move, check your pulse people! 🔥
Asia the short answer to your question, “Which Skynyrd album?”, is all of them. These guys were true musicians and extremely innovative. Responsible for a ton of southern rock anthems. Not to mention that the drummer has the coolest rock name ever “Artemis Pyle” 😂😂
like asking what child us your favorite
Their live album One More From The Road is a must listen to get a good feel for Skynyrd Lyve!
The way the band found out that guy could play piano is a good story
Call me the Breeze is a foot stomping and hand clapping gem of a song!
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! 😍🤩 🤗
The best that Lynyrd Skynyrd has to offer. My opinion......
Absolutely
This is my favorite Skynyrd song!! Once it starts, you can't be still. Love this reaction so so much!!
All their albums are classic. You won’t be disappointed in any of them.
Guys, definitely check out the Skynyrd's first 2 albums, "Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)" and "Second Helping" before anything else. Both are AWESOME!!!
Great stuff as usual guys.
I agree. My favorite are those first two albums. Every song is great!
Absolutely! Get the first two albums.
Written by JJ Cale. A great song writer and a pretty fine singer and guitar player as well.
"Call Me The Breeze" is a cover of a song written and performed originally by JJ Cale but Skynyrd definitely put their signature on it and made it their own. It's probably my favorite Skynyrd song than I've covered in a band. It was fun to play.😃🎸
I came to the comments to mention JJ Cale. Good on you Mike!
At least, we can read the name of the Artist, JJ Cale. The one who have writing this song, and with orhers more then 200 songs. And lot one was better than Call Me the Breeze, just check Artificial Paradise or Durango.
The Music ship of Lynner Skinner, all right it is perfect, great, but about who will talk in 25 years, may be about their musicship but I will hope, we will give to JJ Cale, the tribute of his importance in the wrirting of over 200 songs, and to influence artist like Linner Skinner and great others rock and roll and blues musics stars
For me it is true that interpretation is fabulous, and Mr JJ Cale would be agree, but Mr Cale was simple unique for his music, his souls and more then that, a strong and a powerful human.
Sorry for my english, my french culture don't help me to exprime proprely my thoughts in english
Daniel, du Québec
Thanks....
I read an interview w JJ where he said this version of The Breeze and Claptons version of Cocaine and After Midnight paid his rent for his entire life!
@@longknife441 I have no doubt of that!
The live album - One More From the Road is a must get CD. Showcases just how truly talented these guys were OUT of the studio :)
Yes, one of the best live albums of all time, every song an absolute gem and, if anything, better than the originals in most cases.
Absolutely but grab Second Helping and Street Survivors while you're there.
Give Me Back My bullets
Yeah but you need to start them out on the studio stuff - what's the best compilation, "Gold and Platinum"?
You have to own it on vinyl. Much better sound. Vinyl Rules.
They takin you to church. This is a banger especially drivin down the highway. These guys are Incredible. " T For Texas " and " Workin For MCA " are bad jams as well. " On The Hunt " live is Amazing to.
Any Lynyrd Skynyrd album is great. The Best Southern Rock Band Ever, Long live these tunes and the band. Gone but never forgotten. God Bless Lynyrd Skynyrd,God must have needed the best Southern Rock Band, they are all playing in Heaven now. May God bless their families, gone too soon, but their Southern Rock lives on Forever!!!!!’😄👍
This southern rock band has a soulful-bluesy sound especially in this song and in “I know a little.” 💜💙💜
This song is from “Second Helping.” I Know a Little is from “Street Survivors.”
Great reaction guys! GIMME BACK MY BULLETS is another of many great, great songs from Skynyrd! Keep rocking Fam. 🤘🏻❤🤘🏻
J.J. Cale wrote this song this is a cover by them."
J. J. is the man!
They made six albums, all are a must to listen to. After the crash "First and Last" was released, also a must listen. "Pronounced", "Second Helping", "Nuthin Fancy", "Gimme Back My Bullets", "One More From The Road", and, "Street Survivors"
SO HAPPY to see ya'll rocking to classic Skynyrd. They were phenomenal. Check out Swamp Music & On the Hunt. They had so much swagger it should have been illegal. I rocked out to them in the 70s like nobody's business.
Oh man! I love Swamp Music!
@@roncypert8255 It's high on my list as a favorite by them. My son is an excellent musician. He and I often go back and forth over who's better. I made the statement that 70s Skynyrd was a better band than Led Zeppelin. He died and couldn't believe I would make such a statement. I said that Skynyrd's gift was that they were magic live, and that Led Zeppelin was a studio invention. Sometime later he said he tried to play a Swamp Music riff and couldn't keep up. This old broad was vindicated. 😂😂😂
@@kathimoore6527
I’m so sorry you lost him.
My nephew can shred SRV on his Strat. Loves the blues……
He told me once that Stevie Ray was the only performer who gave a better live performance than Skynyrd.
I was blessed to have witnessed them both live in concert, and I almost agree.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was and is a whole different vibe, but just as good in their own way!
@@roncypert8255 No! No! He didn't actually die. He "died" in that he couldn't believe I would utter Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin in the same sentence! But, I did, because you know, "Momma knows best" 😁 I love SRV too. I saw him in the early 1980s in Louisiana before he was the SRV we know and love now. I'm embarrassed to say, at the time I wasn't that impressed with him. Much to the chagrin of one of my friends. But, when he broke out in the late 80s, I really loved him. Anyway......Skynyrd is amazing!!
@@kathimoore6527
Glad to hear that!
I witnessed SRV about a year before he died.
I saw the Allman Brothers Band my first semester at New Mexico State in 1971.
They played San Diego the next night, went back to Macon and two weeks later Duane was killed on his motorcycle.
After we lost SRV, I swore I would never go see Clapton!
The "One More From the Road" album is definitive of the original incarnation of this Southern rock band.
The crown jewel of Skynyrd albums is 'One More From the Road' recorded live in Atlanta! I wore out four 8 tracks, at least three cassettes and a couple of CDs of that album and it's still my #1 Favorite Album of all time! In fact I still have my original vinyl copy and last 8 track! 'Pronounced', 'Second Helping' and 'Street Survivors'...the Boys from Jacksonville never missed! Here's a few more songs .... Mississippi Kid and Georgia Peaches are straight up Southern Funky Blues. A deep cut that's pure gold is I Had to Write It In a Song.
~Lesa on my husband's account
When I was a teenager. I had the album (One More from the road) which is a live album with a lot of their hits except for street survivor they were amazing on the album. It's worth a listen. Great reaction. Love you guys. Bye
One of the best ever driving songs and there is no better version than this! Hit a long stretch of highway, crank it up and drive, baby!
This is what tornadoes and hurricanes say, "THEY CALL ME THE BREEZE!!"
This was definitely some Southern "Boogie Woogie" right here!!!
So used to hearing the Live Version I can always hear Ronnie say "Billy Powell On the Piano !" before his solo 🙂
Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Gold & Platinum' is a double album with most of their greatest hits! It's a great album!
Lead vocal - Ronnie Van Zant
Guitar solo - Gary Rossington
Guitar fills - Ed King
Piano solo - Billy Powell
Bass and background vocals - Leon Wilkeson
Horns - Bobby Keyes, Trevor Lawrence, Steve Madiao
Horn arrangement - Al Kooper
Hand clapping - Wicker, Toby, Cockroach, Moochie, Gunnel, Wolfman, Kooder, Mr. Feedback & Gooshie
Alan Collins was one of the greatest rock guitarists ever...so underrated..
Yes Allen!
There was so much more musical ability with 70's bands than they get credit for... Skynyrd is the essence of Southern Rock.
This is one of those driving songs that'll have you doin' over a hundred down the highway if your not careful
Finding their roadie Billy Powell playing FREEBIRD on the piano added a whole other dimension to the band.
Fantastic song , First song I ever heard by Skynyrd… This song is on my traveling down the Highway playlist .. 😁👍🏼
Rock on!
When you've got a three guitar threat like this it just feeds itself for great work Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, Ed King and later on Steve Gaines are four of the most talented artists. The rest of the band members were the best talented musicians ever to come together. God bless all the members in Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Next to Free Bird, this is my next favorite Skynyrd song. It has great energy and the guitar, piano and horns are awesome! What’s over looked, in my opinion, is the bass playing. It really keeps the timing of the song perfect👍🏼😊. It’s just a fun song all the way around….
Leon was a beast on bass guitar, for sure.
Leon Wilkeson is one of the VERY most underrated bass players in rock history.
This song was actually written by JJ Cale and his version is significantly slower and had a laid back feel. Skynyrd took the tune and made it their own!!
The most underrated and unappreciated song Skynyrd ever did. A masterpiece.
IMO the best rock song ever recorded
Haha good old clapping and stomping music right here! This is my second best song they do. It’s good to just let the feet and hands loose on this one and stomp and clap! They never disappoint! Great job and great reaction!
Billy Powell's piano was the secret weapon in that guitar band
Nearly 10 years ago when my father was still alive and in his eighties this was a song he loved just because of that piano
Great reaction. Y’all nailed it. This is what is called the “Boogie Woogie” genre of music. The term has African origins, but the music has north Texas origins and while originated with Blues, it’s spread to all different types of music. Typically associated with dancing. This is a perfect example. The pianos, the horns, the guitars. It’s a masterpiece. A popular song among truckers too.
Cause absolutely everything is from Texas. Good grief. This is absolutely NOT true. SMH. Homer being a homer.
Actually this song was written by jj Cale and if I remember correctly was an okie which is not texan.
Excellent choice! One of those songs that has caused many a speeding ticket
Yes! One of my favorite songs ever. Love your reaction. It's definitely a shack shaker or a barn burner. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think my favorite, and most complete album, is their final, "Street Survivors", (nothing but bangers). But their double LIVE album "One More From The Road" is a close second and where you will find this song (Call Me The Breeze). Love you guys.
What's funny, Billy Powell (piano) was a stagehand for Skynyrd until they heard him play.
And I think he went to Bolles
Lynyrd Skynyrd "On The Hunt"..TRUST ME!!
Its a very happy and uplifting song. Great pick.
Skynyrd was one of my all time favorite bands. I had the privilege of seeing them in 1976, the year before the tragic plane crash. They were phenomenal and I had never before or since experienced such a fun show, and I spent my teen years on up into my thirties addicted to going to concerts. I've forgotten more concerts than I actually remember. If you enjoyed this song then I would highly recommend the song 'I know a little'.
Guys - There is a 4 disc box set of all of their greatest hits, some alternative takes (I think), some demos and deep cuts. I don’t know if it is still available, but it would be well worth searching for. As usual, a great reaction. LS was off-the-chart phenomenal.
Wife here.., Rock and Roll Classic for sure!!!...I wanted to take a second to tell you guys that I'm sorry for my absence (My Husband had a heart attack at the first of the year)..But.., he's getting better now and things are slowly getting back to normal..Thank You Guys for being here with an Awesome Selection.., Rocking Out!!!❣👍🤘
Yessss! Love seeing you two rocking out to the greatest southern rock band ever!!! ❤️✌🏼
This is the song that got me into Skynyrd
Have danced to this so many times, can't imagine anybody who doesn't move with this gem! It's pricey but the Skynyrd Box Set is worth it's weight in gold....just saying
Great reaction, you two! You hit the nail on the head about it being juke joint music. This is one happy, carefree, rockin' blues song. Btw, that's Billy Powell absolutely killing it on the piano! SO good.
“Call Me The Breeze” was written by the incomparable J.J. Cale. He is super laid back with a unique voice and amazing guitar style and wrote a few of Clapton's hits. Check him out some time for a nice ride.
Who else could give you a guitar solo and a piano solo in the same song? Nobody but Lynyrd Skynyrd. You can't listen to this song without tapping your feet. I strongly suggest "I Need You" as your next Skynyrd reaction. It is my favorite song by them and will give you goosebumps. It is an underrated gem of a song and will hit you in the feels.
Billy Powell, was, actually, a concert pianist 😎😎😎👍👍
Billy Powell provides one of the greatest piano solos of all time.
And the live one from "One More From The Road" is even better. And the live one from "Tribute" is EVEN BETTER THAN THAT.
I recommend the albums "Pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd,Second Helping,"Nuthin Fancy","Gimme Back My Bullets ",the double live album"One More From the Road"and"Street Survivers ".The catalog of great songs extensive. This is 7 of the best musicians of all time on one stage and 3 beautiful talented Honkettes.
I suggest Lynyrd Skynard Gold and Platinum for CD. it was a double album of their greatest hits, not sure how many CDs it is, but every song on it is an absolute banger, and we’re talking somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 songs.
If you want a Skynyrd cd get ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD. Hands down one of the top 5 live albums of all time
Can't go wrong with Lynyrd Skynyrd Greatest Hits, though I think you guys have reacted to quite a bit of it. Perhaps `One More From The Road.` Great live album.
For my money, "One More From The Road" is THE definitive Lynyrd Skynyrd album, because it represents what they were at their core: an absolutely masterful, hard-rocking, hard-swinging, completely devastating machine of a live band.
I say Lynyrd Skynyrd is the very best rock band America has ever produced, and I say only Aerosmith has a valid argument otherwise. Everybody else is a very, very distant third place.
Lynyrd skynyrd is one of the best rock groups EVER!!
Try " Tuesday's Gone" it just digs into your heart ! Love Skynard always have ,always will !! The tribute band L S is just that, a tribute band. The original will never be beat or get old.
Gives me goosebumps too, Asia!!!! That is fire!! Especially the keyboards -- totally blew me away.
If you're buying a cd & only 1 get the 25th anniversary set of "one more from the road" its the best showcase of their talent!! It's 1 of the best live concerts ever recorded by any band. The original Lynyrd skynyrd is 99% of the music I've listened to every day for 22yrs...you want that live album!
Another one from the great JJ Cale. The way Skynyrd speeds it up and makes it a classic boogie woogie tune is just awesome. And yeah shout out to Billy Powell on this, my favorite from him. The secret weapon in a band with three guitarists!
Arguably, the greatest southern rock band ever.
If you are going to buy 1 album, go for a Best Of. They have so many good songs, one album doesn't cover them all. If you find a double CD, go for that.
Gold and Platinum
I've had this on my running playlist for years. One of the best bands ever.
Couldn't agree more!
Great reaction! I've loved this song since the first time I heard it. Such a joyful song!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS AND CURTIS LOWE IS A MUST HEAR ASIA YOU WILL LOVE IT CAUSE IT'S A TRUE STORY. THEY WERE THE GREATEST SOUTHERN ROCK BAND EVER AND THE BIGGEST. LOVED THE REACTION
BJ, I have played at juke joints and honky tonks many times in my life and there's something so fun about it. So yeah you nailed it. And yeah this guy on the ivories Billy Powell is a force of nature. He's a critical part of their sound. They were all so incredible.
And the problem is the only CD you could probably buy would be their greatest hits, because all of their handful of albums are just chock full of amazing stuff. There is literally not a single Lynyrd Skynyrd song I don't like, and they are all across the map.
If you want to see this level of musicianship taken even further, check out Honky Tonk Night Time Man from their final album Street Survivors not long before the plane crash which ended it all. It is mind-blowing.
Two best albums. Once more from the Road Live, and Street Survivors.
Lynyrd Skynyrd have a greatest hits CD, it has everything you need for a lot of incredible music.
First Kill Bill, now Lynyrd Skynyrd, Y'all are killing it tonight. Thank you!!
They’re my all-time favorite band. This came out in 1974. They’re the best. Billy Powell was a beast on those keys.
One of my favorite tracks by Skynyrd. My favorite albums by them are "Second Helping" this track is from, and their last "Street Survivors" Both are great start to finish. J.J. Cale wrote that song, and when my band opened for him in Santa Cruz in 1995, I'm the drummer, but I brought a guitar along for J.J. to autograph for me, which he did. Skynyrd did another J.J. song "Same Old Blues Again"
Definitely one of my top 5 favorite Skynyrd songs. ♥️
This is definitely one of Skynyrd's "Are you kidding me!!" songs. But of course they have a ton of em. This song is like a funny car race -- starts off spinnin' and never let's up. Just keeps getting faster . A great alarm clock tone song.
What a phenomenal band
One of my favourite songs by them. Enjoyed your reaction.
Glad you enjoyed it
One of the best Lynard Skynard songs ever. Great song
Now you guys know why we been rocking and good timing through our youth! We had bands like this to party with. Good old southern rock!
In my 60+ years of rock, I’ve probably listened to this tune more than any other. It’ll sure help you scoot down the highway!
If you want an album, gotta be "one more from the road, " Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded live at the fox theatre in Atlanta georgia 1976 all hits
I can't tell you two how much I enjoy watching you two digging great music from a great band like this, together but in your own individual natural ways. You guys are the best. Lots of love from me
I have played this tune thousands of times. In front of a few friends, bars and honky tonks up to large festivals. Never gets old!! Pronounced and Second Helping are the albums you. And the double “live” One More From the Road, recorded at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
🤔💭JJ Cale wrote this one! Check out "Crazy Mama" "If You're Ever in Oklahoma" "Call the Doctor" "I got the same ol blues" "Lies" ...and many more!
Thanks for the all the reactions/songs! You 2 have some good videos 💪
I was already familiar with this song when I heard it in a rural rental hall in southern Michigan on a great sound system before the place had many people in it. That bass line was so Phat, Round & Rich bouncing off all that concrete it still seems like yesterday, and that was the late 1970s! It's not just the solos that make this song pop. That bass line is crazy simple but a perfect fit.
My favorite song by them!!! Thank you both. ALWAYS makes me get up and dance! Hahaha! Love the visual of the piano player on this song! Check it out.
Written by JJ Cale, a very humble artist, who wrote Many songs covered by others. He is worth checking out!!!!!
