Peel and stick wallpaper on the back of the closet + a nice pink color? I feel like it would be really pretty!! I love the print in the shelves You could also store the bags in bins that match the ones with belts. Its looking good!!
I agree with the other comments to use contact paper. Like on the back panels and the drawer fronts. And once you added all your clothes in, it's not so grey.
I used to work in a cabinet shop. What you'd need to do to get a good result is start with scuffing everything with 400 grit sandpaper. Once its scuffed, give everything a good wipe (even if you've used compressed air to blow off the dust). If you are painting it a lighter colour, primer is key. Do a coat of primer and then scuff everything with 400 grit again. Do a coat of paint and scuff again. Then do a final coat of paint (you might need up to three coats of paint depending on coverage but be sure to scuff between each application) and then a tip coat. The scuffing between coats is laborious but it makes for a very even result. I've spent 8 hours scuffing cabinet doors and boxes some days
This video came at the perfect time for me! We've been living in boxes as well and now I am super inspired to finish unpacking and organizing my clothing! I also think once you paint it to fit your vibe it is going to feel so bright and inspiring for you to go into everyday!

Can you move the cabinet by the window closer and then angle the blocked unit between them it would waste some back space but be more accessible in front

Closet is looking nice, you set it up well. The DIY Wife channel painted Ikea pieces for their built in closet, I'd check that out. You’ll need a good primer like the Bin shellac primer.

Perhaps you could choose your favorite color and paint just the outer front-facing edges of the closet. Your eye will focus on that color and forget about the grey.

I totally get it when the color just isn’t right but I wonder if you got really beautiful unlaguered brass handles and Virginia sin hooks and hung white airy curtains up high to the ceiling on a white rod if it would do the trick without painting? Trying to save you hassle but if it isn’t right, paint all the way.

Can you take out the panel on the right where you have the hat hanging? Then maybe you could scoot the whole thing to the right wall and have better access to the closet on the left. Adding some trim to the fronts of the closets would also make it look nicer. Did any of that make sense?
I was going to say the same thing. Painting the walls would make the colour of the shelves appear different. But to be honest, I would want to paint the shelves too. I have painted ones like this that were dark brown, and 25+ years later, they still don't have a nick or chip. You just need to make sure to sand really well and use a good primer and paint. I didn't even seal mine.
OMG I envy men so much - look at your husband's side of the closet - all contained in a small space. I'm not condemning since its exactly the same in my home - hubs has a tiny closet in the spare bedroom and an old chest of drawers that I had when I still lived with my parents as a teen, and I took over the walk-in closet in our main closet which also has 2 chests of drawers and 2 bookcase like structures for all the shelves....its ridiculous...and yet I can't part with anything at the moment....sheesh!
You could always do peel and stick wallpaper on the closets

I would embrace the gray, at least for now. Your clothes/accessories (by comparison) will pop and the closet itself will fade into the background.

You can sand the drawers to make sure the paint latches or make sure to use cabinet paint, it is specifically made for high use areas

My idea is to build a pull out cabinet where the hook is that you have your bags hanging on. You could use it for jewelry and scarves.

What about putting some pretty doors on the closets so you dont have to painstakingly paint the inside parts?
Maybe its just the camera, but the shelves look clay colored. Maybe you cn paint a wall color that makes it appear better, more choice?
