If you're tired of constantly monitoring and manually watering your garden, a smart irrigation system can save you time and effort while ensuring that your plants are not dying.
In this video, I'm showing how to build your own smart irrigation system using a valve from a washing machine that is controlled through Home Assistant and ESPHome.
With this DIY project, you can control your irrigation system on schedule with both weather and temperature monitoring so you can save water and money on your water bill!
The carrier PCB for the electrical box can be ordered from here:

Here is a video of the system in operation after working for the entire summer! instagram.com/p/CxmcPPnoz4n/
thanks :)
You are welcome!
That is another fun project if you ever add soil moisture meter I am definitely going to watch the video carefully.
There are few videos to make your own soil moisture meters those cheap ones are worth nothing.
Should ever feel like making a video that would be very cool.
I had something like this in mind a servo motor with a water tube attached. If for instance you have 8 plants then the servo will fill in the right bottle of water that is at a certain angle in the circle. And water the right plant that is thirsty.
Thanks David. I've played before with some capacitive moisture sensors before and they are decent. I've actually used one of the basic ones to make a moisture sensor for sawdust and that also work decently. What issues have you faced with moisture sensors?
Also the idea with the servo is hilarious. I would definitely want to see it in action.
@@TasteTheCode The copper on the circuit board suffers from corrosion when current passes through it after a certain time, they no longer work ;)
Had that idea in my head for a long time, a circle with bottles connected to a flowerpot and watering the plants that way 😂😉
@@davidjobe9876 have you tried using a capacitive soil moisture sensor? Those do not have the copper exposed so they should last longer.
@@TasteTheCode No not yet.
Ok will is see what I can find on the internet.
Thanks for the tip ;)
hello i builded for myself a simple irigation system based on arduino (arduino, relay board, pumps, reservoar, hoses and capacitive soil moisture sensors) don´t go that way :D :D :D measuring soil moisture with soil moisture sensors is rabit hole so deep it will consume you ...... every soil have different saturation point, field capacity and wielting point .... have calibrated sensors few times (dry soil, measure weight, read capacity ... saturate with water, wait a day to drip all excess water, measure weight, read capacity) map those values from 0 to 100 percent, plant my plant, read wilting point (when plant start to fade) ... and in few months moisture sensors were showing wrong data .....
Hey hi, can you please make a video on the mm-wave radar sensor without Audino. actually, it's a human presence sensor to auto ON OFF conference room lights
I'm looking for your response.
Hey, thanks for watching! That is a good idea but because of other obligations, I'm not sure when can I get to it.
Does the water valve in this project require mains water pressure to operate or will it work properly with just gravity pressure?
I haven't tested this so take it with a grain of salt, but I think it is spring operated as you can't even blow air through it unless the coil is energized. So yes, you can use it with gravity pressure.
Do you have a schematic or single line drawing to show the wiring of this system?
No, not right now but the connection is quite straightforward. The relay interrupts the power to the electro valve and one pin for the NodeMCU controls the relay. You can get the number from the code.
bro please share a clip of it in working mode too
I uploaded quick preview of it working on Instagram: instagram.com/p/CxmcPPnoz4n/
