FLight consisted of three students from the University of Art in Tehran: Mahya Mousavi Sadr, Elham Bahadori, and Sajjad Navidi.
Mahya concisely described her beliefs on light as ‘not just about making a house bright: it’s about feelings, it’s about the effect it has on someone’s mental and physical health’. On her team’s win, she said that ‘it kind of makes you feel hopeful and confident about yourself, your future’.
Elham reflected on the ‘great challenge’ of participating in her first serious competition. ‘It was a new experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone,’ she noted, and described receiving the prize from well-known architects as a ‘step up’ in her academic and professional life that ‘I will always be proud of’.
Sajjad highlighted the experience of meeting students ‘from all over the world’. All three FLight team members appreciated the opportunity to ‘get to know each other, the countries, the cultures,’ and to make new friends. Sajjad also expressed his opinion that the competition is ‘in the real sense of the word a golden opportunity to test your ability’. And this opportunity ended in the brightest way for him and his team.
‘I exploded with happiness,’ Sajjad said, as he reflected on the moment when FLIght’s win was announced. ‘I still often think about that moment,’ he added.
