Goober Pyle playing Spock? Was Gene thinking of making Star Trek into a comedy? Can’t picture that casting. Martin Landau, however, would have been a terrific Vulcan. But Leonard Nimoy was perfection as Spock.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking because someone has done comedic acting that they don't have the chops to do a serious role. Aside from the example of Robin Williams, keep in mind before "Breaking Bad", Brian's Cranston's most notable role was probably in "Malcolm in the Middle".
Robin Williams didn't refuse the role on Star Trek The Next Generation, the name of the 5th season episode 'A Matter of Time' is very fitting, again Robin Williams didn't refuse the role. he respectfully declined the role over pre-existing contracts and he could not make it work with his schedule to star in Hook the Character of Berlinghoff Rasmussen went to Matt Frewer instead and was a rather good episode. so it was a matter of timing. next you'll make a video saying he refused the role of The War Doctor in Doctor Who. again he didn't refuse, he respectfully declined the role over privet health issues. but his wife did say he saw the episodes and they made him smile like nothing had in years.
Outrageous. The video claims this was a scheduling conflict with Hook, and now we learn that is was a scheduling conflict with Hook?! We all await an apology from Looper.
@idgamingfederation202 I really dislike the total lack of privacy regarding William's or anyone else's private health matters and the exact manner of death. I know it's legal but do we need to see and hear actual 911 calls, gruesome crime scene photos, the belt Williams used to end his personal torment? It's pretty simple and exactly as you said; he acted professionally by stating he had prior commitments. You don't put a major production on hold because you've been offered another role. As for his illness you don't just "suck it up", that's what my sister expected of my niece before she jumped. Just let it go.
@@dicksonfranssen with respect. All I'm saying was that I enjoyed what Robin did in Bicentennial Man. What Robin did to end himself, is a parallel to Chris Benoit. Absolutely I miss him.
I'm sure that Forbes' refusal to play Ro on a weekly basis led to the producers scrambling to find people who they knew were great actors to fill the replacement character's role. What's really bananas is that Nana Visitor allegedly wanted to play Janeway... while she was playing Kira. If that's true, I have no idea when she planned to sleep.
another one is Rita Wilson's husband Tom Hanks. He was offered the role of Zefram Cochrane in Star Trek First Contract after he contacted the producers and asked for a role in the next Star Trek film which was First Contact. Due to delays in filming, he ended up having to turn down the role due to scheduling conflicts with another film
"Gooooooollllllyyy." 😆😂🤣 Don't put it past him, though. Talented actors often have the ability to take on more than one kind of a character than what we are used to from them. Take a look at Brent Spiner playing the hapless Bob Wheeler on Night Court, and you'd have trouble picturing him as the emotionless android we all know and love.
i can't imagine any of these being played by anyone other than who we eventually saw. i am glad those actors turned down the rolls, the replacements did a great job.
You think? At the time didn't the show went straight into syndication on a low budget and a women was needed to show what was possible. Yes she was Mrs. Columbo but they could have done a lot worse. The show needed a few years to find it's legs but she was no pushover.
I understand why Ricardo Montalban was cast for Khan Singh in the 60s. There was a limited number of Indian actors in Hollywood. It made sense for him to reprise his role in the movie in the 80s. However, there was no good reason not to cast one of the many South Asian, Persian, or Arab actors in Hollywood to play the character the second time around. Sendhil Ramamurthy from "Heroes" Mohinder Suresh would have been a great choice.
we are talking J.J. here... I consider him to be one of the worst directors in modern cinemas right up there with Micheal Bay. He single handedly ruined what are considered to be the two largest sci fi franchises in history... If it were not for Picard he would have killed StarTrek forever... Thank you J.J. for getting away from star trek. Stay away. Stay far away. Out of transporter range. Go to the delta quadrant. Let the Borg get you.. Maybe your horrible directing will inadvertently infect the borg like Janeway did.
@@protector22222 Producers and directors who are fans of Star Trek think that they could do better. It's much harder than it looks as Seth MacFarlane found out in "The Orville".
@kronos5385 We'll have to agree to disagree there. To me, The Orville is far more Star Trek than what's being passed off as Trek right now by CBS. Best Star Trek since Deep Space Nine.
Matt Frewer is better known to newer generations as the eccentric Jim Taggert from the series Eureka. I think that alongside Max Headroom is his 2 most famous roles
There is a big error in this. Genevieve Bujold was fired. You can find videos from the first episode of Voyager where she is the captain and she sucksssss. Absolutely awful. The producers knew they needed a better actress.
he saw alien as a not serious film, he even said on bsg interview, if he saw alien with tentacle, his next act would be to pretend he had heart attack, and that's the story of adama.
I think Del Toro would have looked and played a better Khan. I like his character in Star Wars Rough 1. This average every day looking character didn't do it for me compared to the original Khan.
Your "facts" about Genevieve Bujold are WRONG. Countless people from that show have stated the real reason for it. And countless fanatics know the truth. Check again. 😉 Makes me wonder how many other mistakes have been made here. 🤔
Stewart was perfect as Picard, love Captain Picard HOWEVER Yaphet Koto as Picard? I think I would like to have seen that. Koto such a great, versatile and underappreciated character actor.
Gomer Pyle as Spock.? I don't see "fascinating" being replaced by "Shazam". How about Don Knotts as head of Section 31? Geneviève Bujold as Katherine Janeway was a disaster, the definition of a wooden performance.
As fantastic as Edward James Olmos was on Battlestar Galactica, he would’ve been great as Picard. At the time, they were himming and hawing with making him a regular on Miami Vice, where he played their Lieutenant.
Was this franchise so stupid that big names refused it? Or did most people simply try their best to stay away bc this show and all it's subsidiaries are horrible?
Chancellor GORKON, my man. Chancellor Gowron👀 is WAY later in TNG-DS9.
Robin Williams would make a Great member the Q.

I really think Landau would have made a great Spock. His role in Space 1999 shows that.

Martin Landau would have a been a good choice for Spock's uncle. Put him against Mark Lenard and you'll see.
It’s a huge missed opportunity that we didn’t get Gary Sinise as McCoy.
but would he have stuck with it for 7 seasons? He's a true professional but better things came his way.
I'm glad Nana Visitor was cast as Kira can't imagine DS-9 without her or Voyager without Kate Mulgrew

Mulgrew sucked rocks. Her voice is terrible, she comes across as a schoolmarm more than a captain.
They couldn’t have picked anyone better for Janeway.

Martin Landau's assessment of the Spock character is actually rather spot on.
George Lyndsey would be a LOT like Congressman Jones "Cooter". OMG Mister Eddie as Kruge!!! Admiral Adama himself!!!
